Two IPS students arrested for break-in at School 60

Two Arlington Community High School students face multiple charges after they allegedly broke into William A. Bell School 60 and stole more than a dozen laptop computers.

The students, a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy both enrolled in Arlington's Over-Under Program, were arrested early Tuesday following the three separate break-ins on charges including burglary, tresspassing and fleeing law enforcement. They were taken by IPS School Police to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center.

At about 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, IPS School Police went to School 60 on an intrusion alarm and observed that a window in an interior library door had been broken out. Further investigation revealed that several laptop computers had been taken from a portable cabinet in the media center.

School Police returned to School 60, 3330 N. Pennsylvania St., at 2:22 a.m. Tuesday on another intrusion alarm and discovered more laptops had been stolen out of the media center.

When they returned a third time at 3:18 a.m., they observed two bicycles lying on the ground outside a school entrance. The two students came out the door and School Police ordered them to stop. Police apprehended the 13-year-old, but the 14-year-old ran back inside the school, leading officers in pursuit. He fled the building without getting caught.

Police learned the boy's identity and went to his home where officers recovered several suspected stolen laptop computer after a search of the residence. In all, 21 laptops were recovered from the two student's homes.

IPS offers Over-Under Programs for students who are overage but not achieving at grade-level.

  1. Anyone who knows what is going on knows that the over/under program has been an utter chaotic failure. It is disruptive to other students in the buildings and is not even good for the few over/under students who want to try and improve their situations. This is a prize program of Eugene White so it will continue to exist in it's current miserable failing situation while helping no one.

  2. The over/under program is mismanaged with no solid direction by the administration. Well it keeps the students out of the grade schools and allows Dr. White to look like a winner, we still have the students who are still still failing.

  3. Somehow this press release has a bogus feel about it. Just a strange feeling that it's not real. Where was it posted? The Indy Star? The IPS district website?

  4. One of these students was a former #60 student who did nothing but cause trouble. He was seen smoking outside #60 when he came to pick up his sister last year. Why you ask was a teenager out at 3pm in the morning? Because he is allowed to do what ever he wants while his mother continues to have babies. This is a very sad story. People have tried repeatedly to help this student. I think the police are lucky he didn't have his brother's gun with him.

  5. Yep! Great showing by former students of #60. And we thought the current ones were a handful.

  6. This is, in fact, true. It also happened a few years back at another elementary school (now closed).
I could not imagine, at 13, being up until 3 a.m. on a school night, plotting a break-in at my school.
Let me guess, this is our fault as teachers. Eugene says we have no respect for ourselves in this new IPS. This must prove his utterly ridiculous point.

  7. Too bad they didn't come by and steal our antique COWS.

But, they'd probably be replaced by crappy Dells, or worse, Compaqs.

Let's see....a new Compaq at Fryes is $299. What do used laptops go for? Sure hope they had Vista loaded!

Did these geniuses get the power cords and mice, too?

BTW, I saw this on Channel 8 at 5:30 Tuesday.

  10. Not surprising that the two former students of #60 were caught breaking ,entering and stealing school property. Perfect example of what School #60 teachers are up against on a daily basis. Without a strict and tough administrator and all the bobble heads downtown who turn their heads in the other direction, as if they don't know what the "HELL" is going on at #60. How are teachers suppose to educate and be accountable for students such as the two students mentioned in todays topic! If teachers are to be held accountable so should the parents!!( who were where? when their children were out of the house, under age at 3:00am in the morning, Were the parents in on this crime spree? As a parent wouldn't you wonder where 12 laptop computers came from? or did they just fall out of the sky and land in their house?) School #60 is a time bomb ready to explode...............downtown better get a grip of this situation. Oh! I forgot this is a science magnet school............need I say anymore. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  11. Guess it takes a school break in and the news media to get someone from downtown to take a closer look at what is(or should I say what is not) going on at #60............there was a Dr. Clency and Jimmy(1,000 a day) Hill spotting at #60 today.

  12. Didn't see BIG EUGENE on the SCENE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Now, come on. We know that all the "big wigs" will just blame the problems at #60 on the teachers. Eugene even said in his latest article that teachers who "allowed" themselves to be disrespected don't belong in the "New IPS"!!! AND, the little she-monster who took a swing at her teacher,( she was really going after her), will return tomorrow after a blistering ONE day suspension.

  14. yeah and their going to give Apple a 5 million dollar contract for laptops. Who's getting a kick back on this? One Indiana has cheaper laptops than apples.

  15. The two school thiefs: dumb*ass & fat*ass.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The over/under programs should be put in seperate locaations. Not with students in regular schools. These programs only serve to bring the other students who deserve to be there down.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Please understand that is about 1/2 the students in the O/U progams that need to go. The other half would do alright if the ones that need to go to jail were gone. A few, probably a quarter, could move to the right grade and do well. The problem is the lack of management and a serious deficit in the follow through of stupid, not thought out plans from down town. There are new head players but they are just as bad as the last bunch. Yes men and women with no concept. Say what you mean and mean what you say!

  18. This isn't the first time or the last time School 60 will be broken into to. When I was there, we had 2 or 3 break ins in one year. Someone needs to look at why this school is so easy to break into.

    ReplyDelete
  19. School 15 has had stuff stolen out of the building recently. No one has been reporting on that.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Shouldn't the parents of 13 or 14 year olds who are out at 3a.m. stealing be arrested for child neglect?

    ReplyDelete
  21. One Indiana is a joke...you get what you pay for...on in their case...less. Give Apple $10 million...

Those kids will not pay the proper price for their misdeeds

    ReplyDelete
  22. What blame the parents? How dare you think that the parent should miss having her nails/hair done to watch IPS's child. She is only getting $350 per month to take care of him,and its the teachers fault. Teachers need to teach them morals, values, good behavior, personal care, sharing, proper language, and how to cook. See, none of their teachers have taught them anything. Plus Dr. White expects teachers to bring them up two to three grade levels in one year, after they spent most of the night stealing.

  23. Great post above mine! Well said.

  24. to the poster who wrote..."two dumb thiefs"--what is the purpose of using descriptions such as those. By the way, the plural of thiefs is thieves. At any rate, I am not trying to side with the thieves...I am just saying that there is no need to make such comments...they do no good for anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ouch! What a hand slap. Shame on you. Yes, it should be "thieves." Me be sorry. You be a hater and you can bite me.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Interesting grammar lesson, perhaps someone can offer an explanation.
The singular noun is thief, the plural is thieves.
However the verb is thieve-to steal or rob.
Why is the plural noun closer to the verb?

    ReplyDelete
  27. oh...I am not chiding you for grammar...but for the comments describing the boy...I am not really a hata'playa' - Our language is so messed up anyway...why is it one mouse, two mice...and then one house and not two hice?...or why is it not two jackai?...which is what the "thiefs" were. I think I am just sensitive to describing people as "fat" - LOL

    ReplyDelete
  28. guess that should be playa' hata'....my ebonics is lacking!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Okay, okay. I'm sorry about the fat comment, but since I'm also fat, I said it tongue-in-cheek. Now, I don't REALLY mean my tongue is stuck in my cheek! It's just our crazy language, you see!

    ReplyDelete
  30. See the Over/Under teacher should be placed on the "Marginal Teacher List" for not teaching the two young men morals, values, and positive behavior in the first nine weeks of school. I hope Dr. White makes an example of that teacher in front of the "Bobble-Headed Board".

    ReplyDelete
  31. You be a teacher hater!

    ReplyDelete
  32. "Hater" used by teens means jealous, so if you are hating on me, you are jealous of me in some way....

    From Urban Dictionary
    hater
A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person.

Hating, the result of being a hater, is not exactly jealousy. The hater doesnt really want to be the person he or she hates, rather the hater wants to knock somelse down a notch.

    playa hater
Most simply, a playa hater is someone who openly criticizes, purposefully attempts to sabotage, or who indulges in any number of other activities/behaviors aimed at someone they consider a playa, or even at playas in general.

The derogatory aspect to the term comes in the idea that the person who's hatin is really only jealous -- they playa hate because they wish they could be as successful, or alternately wishes they could somehow have the playa to themself.

So, of course, quite often a playa hater is someone who at some point or other feels they were done wrong by a playa.

Teaching in IPS is a thankless job, so anyone hatin on a teacher is crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. well, your tongue may be stuck in your cheek...but my foot is stuck in my mouth...and I ain't hatin' none of these fine folks who gots my back when all that's comin' down is mostly wack...

    Speaking of grammar..."Breakin'"?? Someone be
breakin' their neck climbin' in windows during a break-in, don't ya think?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why don't we talk about the hidden problems like school 109...........

    ReplyDelete
  35. because unless you post what those hidden problems are no one knows! Do you think Eugene White is going to post a topic like "what is going on at school 109, I hear bad things". Unload and tell people what is happening.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah...I used to work at #109, under the previous principal, and it was a great school. What's happened?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sorry. Meant 108. Inmates are running the asylum.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Dr White only cares about his success and self importance. I've never seen anything like it in all of my years of teaching in IPS
I would love for him to teach in a over under classroom for a few days so he can work his magic with our kids.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I wonder if Dr. White is even aware of all the things that his underlings have done that they attribute to him? He needs to call a meeting downtown of his adminstrators, and have Dr. Johnson or Dr. Giles head the meeting. Then he needs to throw on a pair of jeans and a hoodie and head out to some of his schools. He has an ID and can get in. Just stroll around for a hour or so and experience the "climate" of the building. Knock on doors and ask teachers what is good and bad about that school, what the problems are. Don't take notes or names, just observe and ask. It would be an eye-opening experience for him, and maybe he'd learn what some of the problems are that grind the hearts and souls of students in this system.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Dr. White wouldn't dare come out of his "IVORY TOWER" to mingle with mere peasants.......he already knows what is going on at these troubled schools that have be mentioned on this BLOG. The fact is he really doesn't what to hear from teachers or students..........because the truth hurts!!!! If he were to hear the truth, that would be a total reflection on him and what he is not doing right. So believe me you won't see him out at schools because he doesn't give a RATS ASS about the little people (teachers) who are doing positive things and making great strides towards student achievement for this ungrateful and pathetic district they call IPS! Dr. White's title for this back to school convocation was "THIS IS IT" ( a title he stole from Michael Jackson's Comeback Tour). "THIS IS IT WE'RE SICK OF HIS(Dr. White's) SHIT".

    ReplyDelete
  41. "What" was misspelled should have been "want to hear from teachers or students. I did proof read but I'm not perfect. Sorry

    ReplyDelete
  42. If all is so bad in IPS, why did the district receive five years accreditation?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Only 5 years?...............they must have paid somebody or owed somebody a favor! Let's see what happens after those 5 years run out.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Dear Eugene could never, ever sneak into a school. That would mean that he would join the ranks of us regular people! He might have to search for a parking place, or open a door for himself, or actually rub elbows with some of the little darlings that his peon administrators keep away from him when he visits schools. Besides, I'm not at all sure that he knows how to enter a room without Slick Willie's nauseating and ass-kissing introduction. Not to mention the applause, bowing, and all the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  45. How about board members, they are elected to represent the citizens. They could easily slip in un-noticed. Don the clothes of regular people and COME ON DOWN. Visit the schools without letting the administration know. I know Don Peyton used to come into buildings and look around. I saw him once and when I got to lunch I mentioned it to my principal, he said Are you sure? As if I'd make this up.

  46. Over under kids out at 3:00 am, on a school night, why not? the absence rate of that program is about 50%, is it any wonder the kids are behind, they miss half the school year. Why aren't there social workers assigned just to work with the kids in these programs?

    ReplyDelete
  47. "See the Over/Under teacher should be placed on the "Marginal Teacher List" for not teaching the two young men morals, values, and positive behavior in the first nine weeks of school. I hope Dr. White makes an example of that teacher in front of the "Bobble-Headed Board"."

No I went to the class management workshop and nearly fell out of my chair. We were discussing the situation of what to do when a student shows up with out a pencil, an IPS principal named Barnes (?), announced "just give him one, we aren't there to teach responsibility, were there to teach subjects, heck there are 75 year old Mac Daddys who still aren't responsible". So these teachers could just get her to come in and explain that teaching morals, values and positive behavior wasn't their responsibility.

    ReplyDelete
  48. That principal named Barnes is actually a director. She has moved from position to position as the years go on.
Good to hear she is her usual, ignorant self.
