Place Your Bets

IPS B.S. is taking bets on what will happen at Thursday night's Board budget meeting.
  1. The budget will pass 5-2.
  2. Only Annie Roof and Samantha White will ask intelligent questions.
  3. Marie Busch and her hair will look like a character from "Spaceballs".
  4. Elizabeth Gore won't have read anything.
  5. Diane Arnold won't have a clue.
  6. Michael Brown will master the art of being asleep while pretending to be awake.
  7. Marianna Zaphiriou will still be useless.
  8. Mary Louise Bewley will post here.

73 comments:

  1. 9. Eugene White will be wearing one of his best pimp suits and will denigrate any board member who dares to ask what is in the budget.

    10. Mary Busch will set a record for big hair from the 70's.

    ReplyDelete
  2. You need to find something new to talk about...the big hair and pimp suit comments are tiresome - how about some constructive ideas, just in case we are able to suggest them to the Board.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Here's an idea for the board ... DO YOUR JOB and read the budget and understand it fully, asking questions, before voting on it.

    Alas, it won't happen.

    ReplyDelete
  4. 11. 2 or 3 people from the public will show up, tops.

    ReplyDelete
  5. "you need to find something new to talk about". Number 8 has already come true. Mary Louise is already posting and probably on IPS time on IPS equipment.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Samantha White wouldn't know an intelligent question if it smacked her in the face.

She is a complete, unqualified, buffoon.

She is no different from the bobbleheads, other than her bobblehead shakes no.

The only one who seems to think is Annie.

    ReplyDelete
  7. How can a board member read a budget that the ignorant fat ass superintendent refuses to give them????

    ReplyDelete
  8. nope...that wasn't Mary Louise - just a retired teacher on her own time trying to make a suggestion

    ReplyDelete
  9. 11. Dr. White will receive an A+ from Tony Bennett. All schools will receive a D-.

Why? All successes in IPS come directly from Big Gene. That's why he gets the big buck bonuses. It's the staff (educators, custodians, office staff, food service workers) that routinely don't meet the needs of the children.

    ReplyDelete
  10. What are your thoughts about the proposed changes, paying teachers according to the progress of their students?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Let me select the students I teach and then I will agree to that. Please do not include any at risk students, any special needs students, any ENL students, any students from single parent homes, any students involved with the juvenile justice system, any students with medical problems, any students with attendance problems, any students with behavior problems or any students coming from poverty.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You're kidding, right? Big Gene will NEVER share those handpicked students with you. If he did, he'd have to share his bonuses. That won't happen.

So, do whatever you can with those 36 kids in your split grade class. Perhaps you can draw unemployment when your contract isn't renewed, since your kids didn't show progress. Hiring another educator is out of the question. Gotta keep that budget focused to support the administration, their families, their clothing and vehicle needs.

I can't wait until I drive past the big D on the sign on our building. How often will those letter grades flash on the new electronic signs in front of every high school?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yvonne Rambo looks like The Penguin from Batman!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Why can't someone run against Mary Bush?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Shut up about Rambo. she's the one of the best administrators I've worked with.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I have to wonder how they will measure the sucess of the special area teachers since they don't have a classroom of scores riding on them. They just teach every student in the building, do all the duties....

    ReplyDelete
  17. So are they proposing to pay administrators based on the test scores of the teachers they supervise? Seems like that is the logical way to proceed.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There's no doubt the leadership of IPS leaves much to be desired. However, dealing with staff that makes comments such as those listed here can't make it any easier. So far there has not been one comment offering anything useful. All I see is bunch of bitter whiners bitching about anything they can think of. If it's really that bad, leave. They can't run a school system without staff. If you stay and do nothing but bitch, you are more of a liability than the administration.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Right back at ya.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm in total agreement with the poster above. Instead of acting like jr. high school students and attacking people about their hair and clothes how about offering some constructive suggestions for IPS administration such as:

    1) Cut down on the staff absentee rate by offering to pay teachers the actual hourly value of their days upon retirement or resignation. Teachers planning to retire often use up all their sick time with bogus Dr statements and IPS ends up paying them full salary PLUS $70+ or more per day for a sub. Who is hurt? The students - as usual. Save $ AND the students!

    2) Go after private grant money (Gates, Lilly . . .) to update facilities and equipment. Forget fancy new theories and programs. Lets just get our buildings air-conditioned, provide all of our students with texbooks and get the latest technology in all of our classrooms (LCD projectors, screens, white boards etc) and pay for training so that teachers can learn how to use that equipment to enhance instruction.

    3) Offer to pay for the cost of health insurance (but no salary) for retired teachers in high need and hard to fill areas such as calculus, physics etc in exchange for teaching 1 or 2 sections per day. I bet they'd get some takers (and quality instructers) for an offer like that.

Those are just a few ideas. Surely all of us can suggest things that can be done to improve things for both teachers and students. Why not use this site to promote positive change - not the Jerry Springerish trash talk so many of us seem to thrive on.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow, thank you above posters. It is refreshing to know there are some professionals in our classrooms.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Those are three great ideas! And, at least as far as my experience, #3 is quite original, I've never heard someone suggest that before. I agree, its refreshing to check on here and not see the same crap about shoes, hair, and heads. I'm sick of seeing the same name calling and buzz phrases. Clearly the same few people say the same stuff over and over and it makes us all look bad.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Another idea --- Pick one or two research-based initiatives/strategies, implement the initiatives/strategies exactly as the research was done, stick with those two initiatives/strategies for no less than 5 years even if scores drop at first. Let's stop selecting new programs/initiatives like we're decorating a Christmas tree.

    ReplyDelete
  24. My thought is that the board will show NO professionalism. Ask no questions and just pass the budget.

Any board member who has the guts to actually ask a question will probably get Dr. White saying something like this. "You don't need to know or understand what is in this. Professionals (my in crowd) have done it. How dare you question what I put forward. If you don't pass it I will walk."

"How dare you question that I have so many admistrators at each school in the district. How dare you question all the central office personnel I need. How dare you question why I hire basketball coaches at Broad Ripple for three time the price of regular teachers. How dare you. I can leave."

Then the board will vote in favor of not loosing their leader instead of the budget.

Just my thoughts on what will happen.

The board does not understand that Dr. White works for them not the other way around. That is why more members need replaced. Looking forward to the next election.

Right now my children and others in IPS are at risk because of their (the boards) lack of professionalism.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Another idea, fabulous idea, however lets pilot the strategy at two or three schools and see how it works first.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Another idea, fabulous idea, however lets pilot the strategy at two or three schools and see how it works first.

I disagree with the pilot idea. A pilot study allows for too much wiggle room when we're talking about reform. Either do it, or don't do it.

No one ever jumped a chasm in a series of small jumps; it's either one giant jump or you fail. IPS takes too many tentative little jumps, but I've yet to see us take that big jump into anything.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I actually think any new strategy should be implemented in only one school at first. It should be staffed on a volunteer basis, so that all of the staff is on board with the strategy. Then if it works, you have a solid foundation for implementing it in other schools. And if it doesn't work, you know you've tried it under the best conditions (with staff that understood and supported the strategy).

    ReplyDelete
  28. @I actually think any new strategy should be implemented in only one school at first.

That idea is workable in a very small school district where all eyes are on the pilot. On the other hand, IPS is a large, disjointed system and there's traditionally been little to no oversight on new programming. I've been there; I've seen it; it's not pretty for one small group of teachers to work their butts off in implementing a new research-based strategy while the other 1000 or so teachers are off doing their own thing at separate schools way across town. Quite simply, no one person in IPS is 'in charge' of programming new strategies. It's hit or miss, at best.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think maybe the suggestion is that how can we have faith in a school board member to keep up with education innovations and new techniques when she has not changed her hair style since 1971 and also sees no need to read the budget which she is required by law to approve or disapprove. Mary, do us all a favor and resign.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I concur that Mary is well past her prime for attempting to lead a large urban school district into this century; however, until some person steps up and decides to run for her elected position, then we're stuck with her and her out-of-touch attitude. People should leave their positions when they're on top of their games, not when they begin to slide. It's too late for Mary because she's been in 'slide mode' for several years. This has nothing to do with age, but everything to do with attitude.

  32. We found out today that a group of IPS "goons" are going to various schools, observing teachers in order to see what kind of questions they're asking their students. How odd. Has anybody out there experienced this? It seems like a stupid waste of time.

  33. It always pays to hire the son of an ambassador especially if he's unable to find a decent job anywhere else.

Emil Ekiyor, who was born on Christmas Day in 1973, is the son of an African ambassador to the United States. He set a school basketball season record at Port Orange (FL) High with 120 blocked shots his senior year. He was a football team captain at UCF (University of Central Florida) in 1995. (No mention if Emil received a degree.)

DEFENSIVE END Emil Ekiyor was acquitted of felony theft charges by a jury in Orange County Circuit Court, a development that may allow him to return to the team. Ekiyor, who had 30 tackles and 11 sacks in 1993, was suspended from the team by a special UCF panel after he was accused of stealing and reselling textbooks. He missed the first two games.

ALL 110 players on the roster reported on time Thursday, but defensive end Emil Ekiyor was suspended for an unspecified amount of time. Coach Gene McDowell said Ekiyor's suspension is ''a disciplinary measure for not abiding by the university's code of conduct.'' McDowell would not elaborate. Ekiyor, a junior from Daytona Beach, was second on the team with 11 sacks last season.

Ekiyor spent both seasons on the Bucs' practice squad.

  34. Hooray! I am so glad people are coming out saying, "Stop the whining and moaning!" There are real issues that can be discussed instead of petty, juvenile insults about people's clothes and haircuts. The few times I have been curious enough to look at this site it looks more like IMs from a bunch of 7th grade, "Mean Girls".

  36. Sure would be nice to pay the people who are actually doing the work of the district like that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think you are mean for calling people 7th grade mean girls...you are doing the same thing that you are berating other people for doing. You are no better than anyone else. Time to get off your throne.

  38. In sports broadcasting they call someone who basks in the reflected "glory" of pro athletes, (even retired or washed up ones) a jock sniffer. So sad that a man who should have his entire focus on improving student achievement is instead sniffing jock straps. Tax payers wake up, call your board member or e-mail them and get specific about some of these appointments and salaries.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Pointing out childishness is not the same thing as being childish or insulting children. This place would get a lot more teacher participation if it would cut out the personal insults and trash talking. I know several teachers who poke in every once in a while, but they all say the same thing, "most of it's just garbage." But every once in a while, there's an interesting topic or I hear about something that I hadn't heard about elsewhere (like when those cameras were kicked out of that meeting several months ago). So I continue to poke in every once in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I wish I could get a raise that doubles my pay. Frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The board members don't know about the pay changes. None of them have read the budget. (This week, 1 out of 7 has.) They admitted that at the public hearing.

A couple of years back Dr. White hired another ex-pro athlete and former IU basketball star under Bobby Knight, Joe B. Wright, to be the Athletic Director at John Marshall. Wright was fired this summer because of 'job performance'. Not sure if the jock strap thingie was working out or not.

  44. "Pointing out childishness...." Oh, you have an answer and an excuse for everything. You are different and pure. Your name calling is different. It is good.....You don't like the blog but you just poke in once in a while to pontificate about how horrible other people are. Give us a break and use your time doing something else. You are not required to come to this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't need to insult you. Your posts speak for themselves. I was just defending the person who compared the nastiness to mean girls in middle school. That's not name calling. It's a comparison. That's the difference between the way educated adults criticize a person or idea and the way unsophisticated and immature adolescents criticize a person or idea.

    ReplyDelete
  46. And if everyone who comes here but doesn't participate in the personal insults and trash talking left and never came back, this board would consist of two or three people, one of whom MIGHT be a teacher.

Are you able to see through the internet........please enlighten us as to your superior talents

  48. There are patterns that give evidence that many of the posts are from the same people. Uncommon word usage, odd sentence structure, spelling and grammar errors that he/she uses repeatedly in many posts, etc. Also, many times when something that only teachers would know comes up, there is much less heard from these people and more from the occasional posters. Also, the blogmaster has stated he/she is not a teacher, and he/she is obviously one of the main proponents of the insult/trash talking method of conflict resolution since it's so often used when he/she starts a new thread.

Sometimes Instructional Coaches are told to travel as a group to certain schools to gather data (a.k.a. doing walk-throughs) to check for certain things, such as: questioning techniques, use of exit tickets, levels of student engagement, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  50. They travel together so that it is easier to discuss and decide where they are going to have their two hour lunch.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Isn't Phyllis Barnes son one of those "strength" coaches at Northwest? What is their purpose?

    ReplyDelete
  52. At the meeting, Adair-White and Roof expressed their displeasure at the lack of transparency and public availability of the budget, then voted "No" to approve to the motion to approve the budget.

    ReplyDelete
  53. $500 million dollar budget, and only 2 read it. The board made fools of themselves tonight.

There is so much at IPS to be proud of. It's a shame that the board makes it look so corrupt and secretive.

    ReplyDelete
  54. So ... how did we do?

    1. The budget passed 5-2.
    2. Only Annie Roof and Samantha White asked intelligent questions. (To Arnold's credit she did question Ekiyor's change, which still passed 4-3.)
    3. Marie Busch and her hair still looks like a character from "Spaceballs".
    4. Elizabeth Gore couldn't read anything because her computer wasn't working.
    5. Diane Arnold didn't have a clue (for most of the meeting).
    6. Michael Brown did pretty well sleeping while pretending to be awake, at least until the end when he regained alertness.
    7. Marianna Zaphiriou added nothing to the meetings other than "seconds".
    8. If Bewley hasn't posted yet, I'm sure she's on the way.
    9. Eugene White was sporting a pastel lime green and yellow 3-piece suit. Very suave.
    10. Mary Busch still holds her hair record.
    11. There were more like 5 or 6 "real" people there. Not bad!

So, 10 out of 11 ... 91%. An 'A' for the peanut gallery!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wait a minute, I watched this farce live on TV and I couldn't hear one intelligent comment out of Samantha Adair White's mouth.

Annie Roof kind of made sense, sometimes. Adair White, not so much. Does she have Tourettes Syndrome or suffer from severe migraines? What's up with those facial expressions. What's up with that hairdo? Nice how she thanked Abdul for helping her to understand the budget.

    IPS is doomed.

    ReplyDelete
  56. This must be Mary Louise Bewley who keeps making the unkind and untrue remarks about Samantha Adair White...it sounds just like her. She needs to be careful as one more election and Eugene will no longer have his majority on the school board and then we can have some accountability for Ed. Center employees.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Mary Loise Bewley two more years! Who will protect you once Eugene is GONE!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Eugene did not hire Mary Louise. She was hired by Pat.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I just felt like I had to point out that a 91% in IPS is not an A. Sorry peanut gallery. :(

    ReplyDelete
  60. "Nice how she thanked Abdul for helping her to understand the budget."

That guy is the biggest TOOL in Indianapolis media. A mouthpiece for the state Republican party. He constantly rags on IPS while the Chatter skool he works for has worse test scores than ANY IPS high school and is ranked lower on the DOE March report for improving schools. He wont' tell you that Jeff White is no longer the Chatter Skool savior in Indianapolis AND his kids STILL attend IPS. So much for "receiving a crappy education," as Abdrool has often stated on his comedy show.

    ReplyDelete
  61. It's a shame because if you had a valid point, it was completely lost in your ridiculous delivery. I wish you would qualify your posts with "I'm not an IPS employee" because you sure don't do us any favors by defending us with posts like that one. I mean "Abdrool" ??! Really? What are you, 7?!

    ReplyDelete
  62. School Board Commissioner Samantha Adair White should have her children in an IPS school. If she had her children in a charter school then you would be raising hell about that. You sound like a sore loser who supported another candidate or Mary Louise Bewley. You would bitch at anything she did because you are a whiner. I wish every school board member had children in an IPS school and then maybe some of this b.s. would stop. Mary Busch never had children but wants to tell everyone else how to raise their children.

    ReplyDelete
  63. It's gotta be Mary Louise. She's also on the next newer thread talking about ticks, and we all know she's the IPS expert on parasites.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Eugene is just pissed off because Adair White won an election over one of his lapdogs who he counted on to vote his way on everything like Mary Busch and Michael Brown. Mary Busch needs to give it up. I hope IPS does not pay for her haircare.

    ReplyDelete
  65. With the $8.8 million from Bennett, Busch's bush can live on in infamy for eternity!

I love it that IPS is going to hold that money until next year, when our building is literally boiling over and bursting at its seams. As today's Star article states, that cash could hire 160 educators. Next year. Thanks, Tony and Big Gene!

    ReplyDelete
  66. When should be while.

    Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  67. @Eugene is just pissed off because Adair White won an election over one of his lapdogs who he counted on to vote his way on everything like Mary Busch and Michael Brown.

May be partially true, but -- Eugene doesn't care for Adair-White because her husband is Jeff White.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Let's see. Eugene will be verbally abusive and lie to a school board member because he doesn't like her husband. That is 4th grade mentality. Wait until the next election and the headbobbers are voted out of office and Eugene has a majority of the board demanding answers to their questions.

    ReplyDelete
  69. There is a candidate being primed to run against Mary!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Oh, yes...there will be well funded candidates against all of the current bobble head board members. When some of the conflicts of interest and misconduct is brought to light, we WILL have new board members.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Let's hope the political action group at IEA gets it together and provides some funding for candidates. To little, to late this past election cycle. Call the office and volunteer.

Remember the PAC contribution is voluntary.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I agree the IndyPac group which is the poltical action group of IEA dropped the ball this time. OR did they? We have to remember that IEA president Ann Wilkins is a close personal friend of Eugene and does whatever he wants. We will vote her out at our first chance.
