  1. Mary's halloween costume could be of a 1970 uptight school marm with a beehive hairdo with lots of hairspray and.....oh, wait a minute,...she is already dressing that way

  4. I can think of lots of people more scary than Mary Busch--

    For instance ---
    Jane Kendrick
    Jackie Greenwood
    Li-Yen Johnson
    Phyllis Barnes
    Prudence Bridgwaters

Mary Busch just attends a few meetings and says nothing. The others mentioned are truly scary because they send out scary messages and do scary things.

  5. ...the only difference is that Mary Busch has the vote to make a change and chooses to be a bobble headed puppet [with too much hair on that bobblehead]. The others are just hired minions who have to follow the lead of the head bully.

What are they going to do with their principal who is entering dementia and sometimes confuses the name of the school where she is principal?

  6. An Indianapolis Public Schools principal who infused a low-achieving school with innovative programs and partnerships has received a national education award.

Yvonne Rambo, principal at Gambold Middle School, has been named the 2010 National Middle School Association Distinguished Educator.

An educator for 25 years, Rambo was honored for innovative initiatives, including a vocabulary immersion program for English as Second Language students and a breakfast algebra program.

"Without the availability of unique and creative literacy, reading and math programs, students in our urban school district would not have a voice for crafting their futures," Rambo said in a news release from the association.

Rambo's "drive, determination and expertise converted a school in academic chaos and total disarray into our highest achieving middle school," IPS Superintendent Eugene White said in the release.

Gambold is the only Title I school in IPS to achieve Adequate Yearly Progress, according to the release.

In addition to innovative programs, Rambo emphasized technology while overseeing a multi-million dollar renovation of the school and has partnered with Eli Lilly and Co. and Butler University on health and wellness education, the release stated.

"If we wrap ourselves around the whole child, and the community shares in their education, then the child will prosper," Rambo said in the release. "The focus for the last three years in my current position has been to provide an equitable education and environment for any student that walks through our building."

Rambo will be honored Thursday during the association's annual conference in Baltimore.

  9. Sounds like she deserves this award, not like the guy who won the Milken award based on a recommendation by White.

  12. Scarey conversation, head custodian at Coleman Alt Ed was suspended without pay pending investigation, that she allowed a relative into the IPS side took said relative to Kipp side of building, took a child out of class, took child to custodial office interregated her, threatened the student, all without permission of the Kipp staff, Head Custodian and her niece are not on student's contact. Custodian totally bypassed Kipp's security measures, however when principal suspended her, school was informed by HR that this was not a suspendable offense, she got her suspension removed and she returned to work today, even though the student is terrified of this person, the head custodian is still in the building with this student. According to people the Alt Ed Director intervened and an investigation was never done on this person. Where is the justice for this student whom she intimidated? This head custodian has gotten away with alot of things (including stealing). The Alt Ed Director has also told Coleman Staff that the students are not to be suspended from this school, the school has had several incidents where students are pushing, harming, threatening teachers. Dr. White needs to check into some of this.

  13. Once again. If what you are saying is true, the parents need to press charges. If the parents aren't willing to pursue the matter, then the school won't have any grounds to accuse anyone of victimizing anyone else. And what kind of teacher lets a custodian and her neice pull a child out of class. Why didn't you name the teacher? Why don't you think that teacher should be disciplined? As usual, your post reads like gossip and not fact.

  14. The teacher isn't IPS, it would be a Kipp teacher, the teacher was out in the hall during passing period and the custodian sent a student into get the other student. Who said the parent wasn't willing to press charges, why does the teacher need to be named, because she did the proper thing and informed the principal what had happened. Why should any custodian of IPS be allowed to question a student from Kipp and who is to say the teacher wasn't disciplined, as none of us are Kipp employees

  15. What the heck is Kipp? Do they pay us rent to use our building?

    ah, why bother?

  16. Big question about Rambo, what is going to happen to her when Gambold is integrated into Northwest next year? Someone actually having success will most likely be fired.

  17. The director of alternative education does the right thing. She has my confidence. Integrity is everything.

  18. No wonder Coleman is in such a mess this year.

  20. Wonder if this is the same custodian that use to work at Forest Manor Middle School. She use to get on the kids too...oh and steal from the school.

  21. I get so tired of the "he say-she say". You weren't there and it's obvious, you are not on the KIPP staff. YOU'RE PROBABLY THE SAME ONE THAT PUTS DOWN THE DISTRICT AND MAKE FUN OF THE PEOPLE IN A DISTRICT THAT YOU WORK FOR. IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING POSITIVE - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. (IF YOU CAN) WE WONDER WHY THE STUDENTS ACT THE WAY THEY SO - YOU ARE THE ROLE MODEL!

  22. Please stop with the capital letters and stop shouting.

  23. Teachers at Coleman ALT ED shouldn't be grabbing students, yelling in their faces, pushing them, spiting in their faces, putting them down, and the list goes on. Have these teachers been written up? Students come to me daily about this, but all I can do is listen. Mrs. Towne comes over, and listens to the students, the parents and the teachers, but she is not the principal.
I also heard that New Horizons just put the kids out. Is that Alt Ed?

    ReplyDelete
  24. The only thing I can say about all the stuff going on in Alt Ed, is if teachers are truly doing this then, yes they need to be suspended and who would the person be they are going to to talk to, the custodial staff, office staff, other teachers, however students shouldn't be able to push, shove, scream, cuss, be disrespectful, bully, the teachers, they know that they are not allowed to be suspended, and that list goes on and on and what does New Horizon's have to do with Coleman. No you are correct the director is not the principal, but she can interven I AM SURE OF THAT!!!!! So keep to the real subject, this isn't about the teachers.

  25. I find it scary that while the charter school debate rages on here in Indiana, there are NO CHARTER SCHOOLS in Kentucky. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

  26. Rambo already has a new posotion in the Ed Center. She has been out of Gambold getting her new office ready this semester. By the way, she did nominate herself!!!

  27. You are right, we as adults are the role models for the students in our schools. Has anyone ever heard the saying UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL! I personally love IPS. I totally appreciate the teachers who teach in any ALT ED setting, that is a hard job. You all have my respect. Takes a good person, regardless if they are teachers, custodial staff, office staff, or any other staff, to be able to work in an Alternative Setting.

  28. So it's okay for adults- for staff to behave in this this manner?(like pushing, shoving, screaming, and then, the list goes on) I certainly hope you are not the teacher who continually complain about your job, but offer no solutions, can't stay beyond your work day(5 minutes) to try
to discuss/resolve these problems, and try to keep our youth connected to school. Are you a real youth avocate?

  29. We are role models in our spoken and written language also. Perhaps you would like to brush up on your skills in those areas.

  30. Cattiness, through and through.
Thanks to those of you on here that continually make IPS teachers look like immature idiots.
I have no doubt that someone in Central Office created this Blog. They knew we would be our own worst enemy.

  31. KIPP stand for Knowledge Is Power Program. I think the head custodian at COleman is awesome! She gets her job done and is a parent-type role model for the kids there. Now as for as the KIPP kids at Coleman, they are a mess. Use to regularly " move their bowels" under the bleachers in the gym as a joke. USe to fight with the Coleman kids including one big one where the Coleman kids came back to school at 6:00 and had a free-for-all. One of the neighbors told me police, sheriff and paramedicas were everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ok people we must remember that KIPP is not the problem here. The problem is had any other IPS employee allowed/or did something such as allow an adult to take a student out of class without permission of the parent, they would have been fired, so my question is Why was this person not suspended, fired, or anything else! Who does that person have in his/her hip pocket! As for the aboved mentioned fight!!!! That never happened.
