Don't believe the Central Office when they say they are laying off administrators. Here is what really is going to happen.
IPS is going to move about 150 administrators to the Ed center to make it look like they are eliminating administrative positions. The administrators will have title changes and all cadres and some classroom educators will be laid off and placed on the displaced list for possible call back.
You will still be out of job, but Eugene and his cronies will still get a check.

What is wrong with you, Dr. White needs more administrators to check on "weeds and buildings", than he will need more administrators to help the numerous failing administrators running the failing school? Then Human Resources will again screw up the deadline dates of official notifications, so he will have to keep them on the payroll. But then we will lose 300 teachers to pay for the "weed checkers".
ReplyDeleteEugene White needs more administrators to check on the dozens of administrators that he has already added to the budget. Many of them are worthless and do nothing so hire more of his friends to check on them. More do nothing jobs for friends of Eugene. I just wish the administrator in charge of his wardrobe would start getting him clothes large enough to fit him.
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't it occur to the board that if we need to cut 16 million one place to start that won't put children last is Dr. White's extras?
ReplyDeleteI mean we all pay for our own clothes, cars and cell phones. Considering that he makes nearly $200,000 a year. WELL MORE THAN ANY TEACHER, he could pay for his own stuff too. That would be a start toward savings.
Someone help me with this one: I was trying to figure out how there can be more than 150 administrators???? Think of the number of elementary schools with one principal and no vice. Now, think of the high schools that have one principal, two vice-principals and one dean. Please, lets' do a countdown:
ReplyDeleteBroad Ripple has 1 principal, 2 vice, 1 dean.
And your schools have???????????
Just off the top of my head.....Tech has 1 principal, 3 vice principals, 2 deans, 1 special ed admin., 5 Academic deans [small schools] Media director, 2 or 3 Athletic Directors or Assistant Directors, Director of Counseling....maybe more...that is about 15 or 16...
ReplyDeleteThe district has 250 administrators, not 150. 150 of them were given notice that their jobs might be in jeopardy. 250 is too many administrators, even for a large district. That's 1 administrator for every 10 teachers. And on paper, there is 1 teacher for every 13 students, so many administrators are obviously being classified as teachers, so that 250 is a conservative number.
ReplyDeleteCan some of the departmental duties be distributed among teachers or is that against union contracts? What if they added teaching staff so there was more support? Then could they add departmental duties rather than having so many administrators? Just curious what some of the options are?
ReplyDeleteWho are they classifying as administrators? There is no way we have 250 even including compliance monitors and directors! I agree. Let us count them.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, how many people work at the central office? I use the term "work" loosely.
ReplyDeleteThen you have the Ed. Center annex which is located at Forest Manor which is filled with administators. Many of them have nothing to do but sit around all day.
ReplyDeleteThere are sixty something schools. If you add all the principals, vice principals, deans, and directors to all the people downtown, you get to 250 pretty quickly.
ReplyDeleteThen there are the "hidden administrators" who sometimes are called TOSAs who do not teach and receive generous summer stipends........

ReplyDeleteWell I know Dorothy Crenshaw retired last January. Li-Yen took over her job, that's why she got that hefty raise.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Media Directors are actually administrators. I don't know exactly what they do though. They do get paid well.Unlike us lowly people in the elementary schools even though we probably do twice the work.
There are 50 to 75 teachers who do not work inside the classrooms directly with students. Their job titles include a variety of names, such as instructional coach, literacy coach, data coach, special education instructional coach, TOSA (teacher on special assignment), professional development coach, SpringBoard coach, etc. These people are contracted as 'teachers' but they receive many extra stipends for funded opportunities during the summer that they end up making more than some administrators. Check out the 'designated service contracts' listed under Board Minutes...a real eye opener.
ReplyDeleteMedia Directors are indeed administrators. Media Specialists are counted as teachers.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! I had no idea--no wonder IPS is broke with all these $90,000 plus salaried!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIn a school, teachers should make up way more than half of the staff. This is just silly. I would imagine that rather than administrators "not doing anything" it is probably more of a case of inefficiency, with many duties being duplicated and other duties being required that are obsolete. Regardless, in a school system of 33,000 kids and 2500 teachers, it would be more than reasonable to cut administration by half (1 administrator per 20 teachers and per 250 students is more than sufficient) and cut classified and maintenance positions by 25% (that's still a classified position and a maintenance worker for every 44 students.)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for work if IPS needs an auditor! lol
This is actually an example of why privatization is often superior to state-run programs. Typically with private businesses, we see "economies of scale." This economics principle means that everything else being equal, it should be less expensive, per student, to operate a large school district than a small one. IPS should be the most efficient of all the districts because (theoretically) it can spread it's most expensive resources across multiple schools, and it should be able to use it's large-scale buying power to negotiate lower prices on necessary goods and services.
ReplyDeleteThe above list is really old.....Crenshaw is now Suggs, Kendrick is now Greenwood, Kinkaide is retired.....
ReplyDeleteIf administrators are receiving notice, shouldn't academic deans, athletic directors, and media directors (especially if they are on an administrative contract!).
The list was 2009....that is not really old. Those who have quit have been replaced by others and more positions have been added. Only 150 of the 250 to 300 administrators received pink slips. Few, if any, will be actually replaced. It is all smoke and mirrors.
ReplyDeleteEven though this is an old list, there are many on it who bust their butts for IPS and are worth their salaries. However, there are MANY others who aren't.
ReplyDeleteAgreed...there are some good administrators who work and care...but they appear to be in the minority. The others are just lackeys for Eugene White.
ReplyDeleteWhat concerns me is that the building level administrators tend to work the hardest and are probably in the most danger of losing their jobs. What about all the superfluous people between principal and administrator? They probably make more money anyhow.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I meant principal and superintendent.
ReplyDeleteBeyond principals, vice-principals and a discipline dean at every school, one director for elementary schools, one director for secondary schools, one athletic director per high school--THE REST ALL NEED TO GO!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete300 administrators for 60 schools is high, but it wouldn't be as troublesome for me if there weren't so many other support positions. If we need so many administrators to handle special ed, curriculum, alternate ed, etc., then why do we need 1000 classified positions? If the classified positions are the ones handling all these non-teacher duties, then why so many administrators??
ReplyDeleteMost classified people make low wages and do tons of work that the administrators should be doing. Let's leave them alone.
ReplyDeleteRe: "Most classified people make low wages and do tons of work that the administrators should be doing. Let's leave them alone. "
ReplyDeleteThat is a ridiculous statement. To what kind of work do you refer?
The classified staff in my building could not do what administrators do because the would have to leave their coffee, donuts and the newspaper in the lounge or they may miss out on the latest gossip.
Oops. "they" not "the". So sorry typing police.
ReplyDeleteThat is your principal's fault. The secretaries, clerks, custodians, classroom assistants and cafe people work hard in our school.
ReplyDeleteAgain, these things called "credible sources" are missing. Are there any journalism teachers that view this blog? Maybe they could explain the concept to good old Blogmaster. Nevermind, let's just keep posting wild rumors and presenting them as fact.
ReplyDeleteDoes the "b-s" in the blog title refer to the accuracy of the articles?
This time, a credible source WAS listed. The IPS salary schedule was downloaded from Indiana Barrister and the number of positions in each category posted.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Mary Louise is getting bored and needs to post on IPSB-S some defensive remarks regarding the failed administration of Eugene White.
ReplyDeleteSorry to spoil your fun, but I'm not Mary Louise. You still have 2 guesses left, though! I'll make everyone here a promise. Let's get 20 people to post their real names, and I'll post mine. How does that sound?
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with the Indiana Barrister source. Actually, I'm quite impressed with that.
My problem is that the second sentence of the first paragraph of the main posting is presenting the second paragraph as fact without any credible source to back it up. I wouldn't have a problem in the world with the article if the phrase "I/we/you think" in the second sentence of the first paragraph, which would then make it a statement of opinion, or if there were some source listed.
Keep the rumor mill churning, though. We have no use for facts here. Besides, the hot air feels good in the cold weather, I only wish the stench didn't accompany it.
Oh, well the blogmaster obviously has an axe to grind, but not everyone who frequents this blog participates in the rumor-mongering (as evidenced by some (if limited) inclusion of sources and some (if limited) discussion of facts.
ReplyDeleteMary Louis needs to stay away from the snacks and stay on her diet, my God the broad even has a fat face now. The listing was current, Indiana Barrister source is accurate to about 10%. Dr. White has hired more administrators. Rambo is now in charge of Failing Schools, so maybe she will take all of the ISTEPS papers into her office to "make notes" for the teachers, then we have will have miracles in IPS, every student passing ISTEP, even the ones who were absent that day? Then Bennett would have no other choice but to leave IPS alone. I heard that Edison will take over Howe, and Manual, fire the entire staff, who will then become building substitutes for IPS, as they didn't get the proper notice for RIF (June 2011), and Edison will only have to report to Bennett. Edison will expell students left and right, they will enroll in IPS, and Edison will look like a miracle worker. Just like BRHS, small classes, white students, very little special education, and they are still failing? Oh, Linda Davis is now working from home on that sipping whiskey and branch water.
ReplyDeleteI send Mary Louis information on Jenny Craig's services and meal plan to help her lose the pounds for 2011.
ReplyDelete@Mary Louise needs to stay away from the snacks........you are misinformed...the deadline for layoff of teachers has not passed. It is in the Spring. Administrators only have the DeCCember deadline.
ReplyDeleteIt may take 2011 AND 2012!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy do you insist on making personal attacks on people, e.g. someone's weight? You lose your credibility when you infuse what may be a legitimate argument with your caustic rantings about issues that have no bearing on the educational problems we face.
ReplyDeleteDorothy Crenshaw retired in June, not January. As did several others on that list.
ReplyDeleteThey will all be back. This administrator layoff thing is a joke. The administrators in my building all laugh about it. They have to dress up and go downtown - again! - to interview for their jobs. They will all get their jobs right back, and IPS will continue its decline.
ReplyDeleteLet's have the layoffs start at the top. Make Gene interview for HIS job again. He won't be allowed to use his totally bogus graduation rate increase though, and we'll need to put some parents and community members on the interview committee to help balance out the bobbleheads on the board.
Then Willie can interview, and Johnson, and on down the line. Maybe by the time the interviewing process gets to the building level, IPS will have filtered out the idiots and parasites and can operate efficiently.
Wouldn't that be fun?
I agree about the personal weight attacks on Mrs. Bewley. They are unnecessary and juvenile! We don't know the condition of the person making them. I may not agree with the things she 'has' to say to defend IPS, but the poster is hiding behind a computer--they may be a drunk, a thief, stinky or ugly themself!
ReplyDelete
