Have You Seen the News

All IPS salaries have all been posted on the Internet. What some administrators make to do absolutely nothing is almost criminal. Read them and weep.

  1. A real school board would have put a stop to this wholesale administrative job creation a long time ago. Many of these jobs are "empty jobs". They have nothing to do. Some are just so Eugene White will have travel companions. Unfortunately, we have a bobble head board that can't say NO.

  2. It is really hard to believe the salaries for those who are soooooooo incompetent. No wonder schools for going without books, supplies, football, marching bands.
A question, will the principal at Washington maintain his salary or get a raise when he goes to Tech as the AD AND Football coach?

  3. Or better yet...if that mean, manipulating, spiteful assistant of his gets the job of principal at GWCS, will she get a huge raise??

  4. That list is absolutely digusting!

And people are writing on here about how "blessed" they are to make a low-rent salary as an IPS teacher with lousy benefits and horrible disrespect and treatment by many of these same administrators who are breaking the bank?

    Give me a break.

    IEA, where are you!?

  5. Some of the salaries are ridiculously inflated! In my opinion, custodians, principals, vice-principals, deans and teachers are the ONLY ones who should be on this list. All these directors, monitors, coaches and supervisors NEED TO GO!!!!!!!!!!! They are a major drain on IPS finances to do nothing. One thing I can say in Dr. White's favor is that he seems to look out for his friends...and that's the kind of friend I want. I think he realizes that when you cut an adminstrative job, you are leaving a home somewhere without a major breadwinner. What he should do is give them a lesser job without a title. It's still a job. Maybe they can find something on the side like most teachers.

  6. Are you serious? "Cutting an administrative job leaves a home without a breadwinner"?

Do you honestly think that is a concern when a teacher is RIFFED or put on a substitute list when he or she is determined by some crazy principal to not be marching to some IPS totalitarian lock-step?

  7. It is incredible. Sarah Bogard, the principal at Tech, earns well over $100,000 in salary per year. The school board is voting tonight to bail her our of her textbook deficit. She owes almost $150,000 to a textbook company for Enlish textbooks and is unable to pay for them. They are threatening to sue IPS for Bogard's deliquent account. I wonder how much she has spent in flowers, shrubs, bushes and new fancy chairs for the administrative offices this year. That woman has some crazy priorities.

  8. I am a taxpayer and not a teacher.

Any teacher who reads that list and is not absolutely irate needs to see his/her doctor about cutting back on their Prozac dosage.

  9. The very sad part of this story is the freedom these administrators have. Over the years I've witnessed principals, vice principals routinely come to work late and leave early letting their other vice or deans take care of school during their absence. They leave the buildings whenever knowing their secretaries can call their cells if they are needed. I've seen the sick days not accounted for by leaving it up the administrator to call in his/her supervisor. It is frustrating to know these people get paid even when they are not on the job.

  10. To clarify, coaches do not make more money. They receive their teacher salary.

  11. But I was told in the last discussion thread that I should stop "whining" and be grateful for having a job at all.
Like I said in the last thread, I am not a whiner. I am a realist. Those of us doing the work are the ones who are paid the least. Not only that, but by the time I PROVIDE MY OWN TOILET PAPER and supplies to my students - not to mention the belts, khaki pants and polo shirts I have purchased - I could make just as much money in a place where I was treated as a human being.

Well said, well said. Can we get a witness?

  13. To the person who said coaches receive their teachers salary: Okay, but they need to be back in the classroom. We don't need them, they serve no purpose and are annoying to most of the teachers.

  14. Hey....what's the dirt on Kay Kelly? She wrote us up for a squeaky rest room door!

  15. At what internet address do we find these salaries?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Duh? The link was included in the blogmaster's posting.

  17. Click on the word Internet.

  18. Some coaches do serve a purpose. Some of us try very hard to help the teachers in any way possible..whether it be materials, technical assistance, working with data, or a shoulder to lean on. Some of us recognize how hard the teachers work. Please don't assume.

  19. Did you notice that Dr. White's secretary (now with a pumped up title -- Executive Assistant) earns over $71K?

Do ya think she has a 4-year college degree? We're busy trying to convince kids that a college degree is a must-have, when we all know it's not!

There are many bus drivers who earn more money each year than young teachers! School Police earn more money than many teachers!

There are high school Vice Principals earning $90K+ who can't even write a coherent sentence in the English language.

  20. I am concerned that we hired someone from outside of the district this year to be the varsity basketball coach at Broad Ripple. A position was created for him at the meager price of $85,000. Unreal.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am one of those young teachers. It is depressing to see how our district runs itself.

    ReplyDelete
  22. OK, I did the math. According to the info on Indiana Barrister there are 1,909 IPS employees who earn more than a 25 year teacher with a masters degree. I would love to hear a justification for that.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The varsity basketball coach at BRHS has a total comp pkg of $109K+. Basil Mawbey is not a teacher, in fact his responsibilities are non-exsistent off the court. He is at BRHS because he is Dr. White's pal.

That being said most coaches are valuable. They devote incredible time to the kids, serve as genuine role models and are admirable in many ways.

Better to buy some computers, hire a couple of teachers or increase coaces stipends than to pay Basil six figures to coach basketball. Ain't it great?

    2. A coach-only varsity basketball coach is earning $109K! Many COLLEGE basketball coaches do not get paid close to that! Many high school basketball coaches in this state get paid less than half of that!

    I am a taxpayer, not a teacher:
These are absolutely STARTLING facts! IEA? Indianapolis Star? Indianapolis TV and radio stations? Indiana Department of Education? State Board of Accounts? Anyone out there? Hello! Hello!

  25. If you are one of the academic coaches like data coaches, AVID coaches, sped coaches etc...most of you need to be in the classroom with direct responsibility with and for students. Some of you may be doing a good job but most hide away day in and day out giving all of you a bad name. People like that worthless T.E. or P.R.

  26. The "secretary" for the School Board earns more than $85,000 per year. Dang it all, I wasted a lot of money on undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degrees. Go figure.

There's some strange goings-on out there. A Department Chair (thought those positions were elimated a few years ago) at an alternative school (Meridian Transition) earns $47 per hour which is the same hourly rate as a Director in the Ed Center.

  27. Looks like the school board is growing some balls. Check it out.

    ---------------------------------

The men's varsity basketball head coach at The University of Southern Indiana - which has 10,500 students - is paid $85,500 per year.

This college coach has to work all year recruiting, traveling with his team to other states during the season, giving speeches to alumni, etc. etc.

The varsity basketbal coach at a high school in IPS - who does nothing more than coach a team of kids for a few months in the winter - is making $109K!!??

Absolutely unbelievable. But with IPS, I guess nothing could be called unbelievable.

  29. "Looks like the school board is growing some balls. Check it out."

I just read the story in the Indy Star. I'm agreeing with you. At least 3 Board members have some spine! Thank you, Bentley, Arnold, and Cohen, for doing your jobs. Stay strong!!! You guys seem to put kids first; whereas, the other four just seem to put Dr. White first.

    ReplyDelete
  30. From what I read in that newspaper article, seems like what the Doc was saying was "you'd better let me shoot the ball first every time down the basketball court or else I'm going to take my ball and go home."

Tell me: are mega-massive egos measured in feet or in yards?

(You notice I used a basketball analogy since footballs will soon be disappearing from all IPS schools).

  31. It actually warms my heart that the general public can get a true glimpse of White's toxic management style by reading the Indy Star article. I don't give him another year. . .

  32. We were soooo close. Just imagine. We were only short 1 vote of Eugene quitting.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I wonder if he will quit or we will replace those 4 head bobbing school board members first. We will remember who refused to stand up to Eugene White's threats.

  34. We have young, enthusiatic teachers who can't be paid what they need because we have allowed the system to keep teachers who are at the top of the salary scale who do nothing, hate their work and let it be known how they feel and who are making twice and 3 times the salary of the young teachers...they need to be gone and should have been evaluated out years ago...they just keep moving them from school to school and everyone knows they are hurting kids - the union has protected many bad teachers for years and it cannot continue to defend these teachers...everyone can name at least one they have known. This is not to discount that there are also people being paid a lot who are administrators, supervisors, etc. who also need to be evaluated - every wonder why we need some supervisors to work the whole summer when there is nothing to supervise going on?

    ReplyDelete
  35. one thing Dr. Zendehas (sp?) did was to empty out the downtown headquaters and send folks back to the classrooms.

  36. "We have young, enthusiatic (sic) teachers who can't be paid what they need because we have allowed the system to keep teachers who are at the top of the salary scale who do nothing,..."

You should really see a shrink and try to take care of that gerentophobia (my made up word). If you are lucky enough to reach old age, will you fear yourself? You probably endorse the alleged "death panels" too. There are a lot of good teachers at the top of the pay scale and if you started teaching at 21 or 22 you can reach the top in your mid forties. That's not exactly over the hill now is it?

    ReplyDelete
  37. To the young teacher who can't spell and bashed the veteran teachers.....YOU are the one who needs to be evaluated out of the system. Your age bias and union bashing shows just how out of touch you are. There are hundreds of excellent veteran teachers who have given their careers to IPS. There are a few who need to go but you have proven that there are some young teachers who do not have the compassion or open mindedness to be an IPS teacher. Do your students a favor and resign.

  38. I pray that something - anything - is done now that the general public is starting to see how crooked our Central Office works.

    ReplyDelete
  39. An ounce of credibility that Dr. White may have had is now gone. This is comical.
We should all tell Dr. White that if he won't let us run our classrooms the way we want, then we will go elsewhere. All of us!
THANK YOU SCHOOL BOARD - SOME OF YOU - FOR TAKING A STAND AGAINST A BULLY!!!!!

That is one of the longest run-on sentences in the history of the English language. It may make the Guinness Book of World Records.

Honey, you're wanting to get rid of older teachers. The degree to which you absolutely butcher the language indicates to me that you need to be finding other employment (not teaching kids to write and spell) and stop worrying about veteran teachers.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Just a quick comment about coaches...a good majority of the coaches are in place because of NCLB mandates. Because we are a failing school district, we must have E/LA and Math coaches. Schools that are on the comprehensive level of school improvement are required by the state to have a full-time coach. So, when the district meets AYP, coaches can go back to the classroom!

  42. O.K. I am the person who wrote about young, enthusiastic teachers and I happen to BE a veteran teacher. I was in NO way blasting all older teachers as I AM one. I was speaking about the teachers who have been allowed to remain year after year and who do nothing. We need our veteran teachers to be role models and mentors. The majority of older teachers are wonderful. It is just the fact that we all know teachers who only stay because they are waitng for retirement but they "retired" years ago. You must know that there are teachers (and administrators) who have been shuffled from school to school because they were never put on a PIP or evaluated properly. There are administrators who would rather send them to another school rather than have to deal with union issues. I wrote that in a hurry, thus the the spelling errors and poor sentence structure. Please do not blame a young teacher. It was after talking with a teacher last week who is of retirement age, who is very vocal about how much he hates this system and who treats kids horribly (and then seeing the pay rate) that I thought about how we had lost some of our brightest young teachers last year. That one salary would have paid for two eager new teachers. I WOULD NEVER DEMEAN TEACHERS DUE TO THEIR AGE - we need that wisdom. Hopefully I have made my point clearer. P.S. I see this blog as a place where people leave "messages" - not Level Three writing.

  43. Teaching is a new career for me after retiring early. I have a few years of experience under my belt and yet, I still seek counsel of the veteran teacher. Teachers who are doing an excellent job in a horrible school system. I see IPS as just another Enron waiting for the "bubble to burst". The Department of Education will have a fun time taking over IPS, with their five weeks wonders, and yes, some have surprised me with their talents. The majority just walk away from IPS.
