  1. Well...Pat was a pussy and Eugene is a bully.

  2. I disagree- Pat P. was not a "pussy" - He fought his battles and picked issues to stand firm on, didnt sweat the small stuff- at least he was available and caring. He also fit in better with ALL IPS employee-He also never took IPS Police with him... Eugene is a front man, who is all talk & hype with little to no follow through.

  3. Why are you encouraging mindless, spiteful comments?

  4. Back to the topic, people. I'd like to know which high schools are safe.

  5. I liked Pat, he treated teachers, students, and parents with respect and concern. I still remember his reading sessions with the students, he always spoke like a gentleman and was still a teacher at heart. Pat was not a phony, with red Gucci shoes, and more rings than fingers. I never heard of Pat calling IPS Police for an escort during his visits to different schools. Pat didn't need a IPS Police officer at his side while meeting with teachers, parents, or students.

  6. I didn't always agree with Pat but he was a gentleman. He was always available to teachers and never degraded teachers the way that Eugene does. Besides, Pat would never visit a school wearing ruby red slippers. I dont know the safest school but Tech has to be among the most dangerous.

  7. Pat Pritchett wins this one hands down!!!! Pat respected teachers. He never degraded or demeaned the teachers that worked for IPS. He was always available to meet with teachers, we could bring concerns to him and not be afraid of the retaliation and intimidating tactics that White uses in order to get his way! Pat could relate to people from all walks of life where as White only meets with the elite and people who can help finance his hidden agendas! As far as highschool goes I really can't say which is the safest until I have visited all of them. Let's talk about which elementary school is the safest? and which is the most dangerous?

  8. Am I the only one who doesn't see White as degrading and demeaning? I've only been in the district a few years, so I can't compare him with Pritchett. Obviously NCLB and the expansion of charter schools have intensified the pressure on accountability, and I think White's attitude often reflects that. But I guess I don't get the venom from the teachers here. I don't get the sense that this sentiment is universal in IPS. Most of my coworkers don't seem to have a problem with White, even those who are against all of the reform movements.

  9. School 15 is the most dangerous- from the "Outside" to the "Inside". Computers have been stolen, stranger walk through the building like they own it... And that is the neighborhood people. On the "inside" Justin Hunter will stab you in the back quicker than a rabid pit bull will bite you!!!!

  10. If you don't see White as degrading then you must either be one of his family members, Jane Kendrick or one of the school board members.

  11. Of course, of course. Because if I were REALLY an IPS teacher, then I would be insulting people's sexuality, clothing, and dentition, slandering people's names and showing nothing but contempt for every IPS administrator. Everyone knows, all IPS teachers feel the same way about everything. None of us have minds of our own, critical thinking skills, or intellectual depth. Therefore if White criticizes something some teachers are doing, then he must hate all of us. We are, after all, a collective. And if some anonymous blogger says IPS teachers hate White, then, of course, that must be the case.

  12. Or you are doing your job.

  13. Good post. This blog is made up of about 5 or 6 bitter teachers who are on the brink of losing their jobs because they have been stealing their paychecks from IPS for years. Just wait until they are assigned to the sub pool. This place will really be venomous then. At least the students will be better off, though.

  14. On all levels Pat was a much better superintendent and the reason Dr. White is such a bully is because we have a weak school board (with the exception of Cohen and Bentley) When White was in Washington Township the board had more back bone and were not afraid of him

  15. You're right. I guess it'll take a "shake-up" to force some to "wake-up."

  16. I go to the meetings Dr. WHite has for parents. Any chance he gets, he puts teachers down. Example? Last year after the silent strike where the teachers came in, then left, he had a quartley meeting for parents. He spoke very poorly about teachers at that meeting. About their protest. Saying, yeah, you've all heard about what the teachers did, but do you think it got them any more money? I thought the protest was great, but he just put them down, HIS teachers, in front of these parents....

  17. When Pritchett started, there was no AYP and the PL221 had no teeth. If memory recalls correctly, White was brought in to try to change the results per AYP after that became federal law. Their charges (main role in the job) are different due to NCLB. No telling how his demeanor might have been if there continued to be next to no progress ... the the threat of takeover (loss of control) and to prevent that from happening was his charge.

  18. Oh, get over it and get back to your Ed. Center jobs...We all know that Eugene is a phony, a bully and loves to degrades teachers while in the community. He thinks that wearing his silly red tap shoes that he is impressing people. Little does he know that community people are laughing behind his back at his red slippers, excessive gold and rings and his too tight suits.

  20. Personally, I believe Pat was/is the better superintendent. He knew what issues to take on and would do it in a way not to offend/belittle others. I don't believe Dr. White knows anything about doing that. Pat, knew how to grow ally's and not have to have police and a inner-circle following him. Sheilding him from controversy and angry stakeholders. Just my opinion.

As for the second question. I believe from outside observation driving by some of these high schools and seeing students/vs. not seeing students. In addition to noticing cameras and buzzers to get in (not sure if they are being used or not). Just in a drive by type of observation, Manual would be my pick. I dont' see kids leaving as often or others going in. Driving by look like it is almost on lockdown day in and day out.

I can remember using the court yard to pass to classes when I was in school. Never do I notice it being used anymore. A shame. That was a nice to get out fresh air and calm while walking to the next class. Seems they could put up a fence or something and allow opportunities for these students to do the same. Guess, in this day and age court yard use has become a thing of the past.

  21. Pat allowed IPS to be robbed blind and with information of this nothing was ever done. Cheating on ISTEP happened every fall. And then perhaps we should talk about the Terra Nova and the cheating that went on to make score look good. Every school used a different series of books. Many times in many schools basal readers were never used because the student couldn't read them. So they weren't taught. And the dress of the students and teachers was horrible. While White marches to a different drum beat I see many good things happening daily in IPS. I am proud to be a part of IPS.

  23. “What a joke this blog has become”
“5 or 6 bitter teachers who are on the brink of losing their jobs”

    Just stop reading the blog.

Dr. White has put some policies in place that need tweaking, the uniform policy is a prime
candidate. Although opinions vary I like the intent but it sees so rigid that teachers find it
difficult to enforce and administrators can use it to deny any autonomy to the students. It
seems that one of Dr. White’s true failings is his choice of personnel. Rumor has it that
the Broad Ripple Basketball coach was his choice and/or hired by downtown and the
school had nothing to do with this man’s hiring. This coach is pulling down about 106K
with an ill defined position within the school except that he is the Basketball Coach. What
    gives with that?

  24. What good is a dress code if the only time it is enforced is when the principal thinks White is coming to visit? You should see the lack of enforcement on normal days. White is destroying IPS and then we will see if the Ed. Center people on here still think he is doing a good job. The state is going to start taking over school by school and these outrageous excessive administrative jobs will disappear. So will the worthless instructional coaches. Many just spend each day figuring out where to go for lunch.

  25. I remember Pat for the type of leadership he displayed, two examples/stories, one before he was the superintendent(I believe that he was an assistant sup.at the time.) An elementary principal was dealing with the funeral of a family member when water pipes broke in the building. Pat,knowing that this principal had lost an immediate family member, went in and helped take care of the problem. As the story goes, the principal showed up to check on the incident anyway and saw Pat in rubber boots, pushing a vacumm, trying with others to get the nearly inch of water off of the wooden floors. (old 39) The second example (I can confirm, I was there) was when Pat showed up to the funeral for an I.P.S. student who had committed suicide. I was upset over the student's death, and I was impressed by the fact that he showed up. I got a chance to talk with him for a few moments, and during that conversation we talked about several things, including the fact that I.P.S. was going to need new administrators. He encouraged me to become one (something I have not done, maybe in the future, IDK) As much as I liked Pat, I was still disappointed with the small learning communities/small schools without the funding, and the fact that it was pushed from top down (something I.P.S. does often) Pat had a different personality/leadership style than Dr. White does. Dr. White (in my dealings with him) is more reserved and focused on the matter at hand. He does not (from what I have seen) spend to much time talking to the teachers or other staff members. Most of the time, when he shows up for events where I work at, he is directed to where the administrators are, and occasionally he will talk to some of the students (when they are not booing him in large groups- I have seen it happen. It is unfortunate, and it is disrespectful, but it is an honest expression from the students) I do not know if Dr. White has shown up for the funerals of any I.P.S. students, I have not heard of it happening, and I have not seen it happen. Of course, showing up at the funeral of an I.P.S. student is not a litmus test for being a good superintendent. Dr. White has a different style of leadership. (or for those who know-he has a different way of holding onto the rope.) Both men have had agendas that they pushed, and I do believe that they are/were doing what they thought was best for I.P.S. (at least in their own minds) Aside from the shoes, (I have to give you all that one) both men were/are trying to accomplish that same goal. Just going about it in very different ways

  26. If only Eugene had a way of making his changes without making the teachers feel like pieces of sh**!

  27. Your story about Pat made me think of an old story about him when he was in charge of buildings and grounds or facilities management for the system, I had a room with high ceilings, full length windows with a southern exposure off of a black topped gym roof. The room would get so hot year round that the crayons melted in the boxes. One of my colleagues said that if they put a dog in that room and left him all day you'd be arrested for cruelty to animals, but put teachers and kids in there it was ok. I wanted a double set of shades, so that I could keep the shades drawn and open the windows at the top to ventilate the room. My principal said it would never happen but submitted the paper work to Pat. One day Pat showed up and actually investigated the situation. A week later they came and installed a short set of shades at the top of each window, and moved the long shades down two feet, we could now open the windows at the top and bottom and still keep the shades drawn and the blistering heat out.

He listened, investigated and considered what others said before he implemented a plan.

Much of what White has tried to do has been undone by people who don't really understand that you have to be absolutely 100% consistent in enforcing rules or they are not rules. When the dress code first came out, and today, I try to enforce it, but when I send a kid to the dean because she is wearing a pink undershirt, visible at the neck and waist, under a too tight polo shirt, and the student is told to just button up the shirt to cover the garment; or a student is told by an administrator to tuck in the hood of a hoodie because they are chilled, that person is undermining everyones ability to enforce a rule.

The dress code is so complex and lengthy that it is nearly impossible to enforce and many schools have implemented short form dress codes. For instance did you know that ruffles on blouses are prohibited and sock, tight and pantyhose colors are specific to schools. And what defines skin tight? For some reason boys seem targeted for enforcement and girl's transgressions are ignored.

  28. Eugene White is afraid of the girls. They can be mean. When Pat Pritchett was our leader, our checks were issued in a timely manner and were usually correct. The direct deposit was done also. Many of last Friday's checks which were NOT direct deposited due to Human Resource incompetence were for the wrong amounts, missed important deductions like credit union and insurance and many never made it to the correct building. There is no excuse for that. Last Friday was not the first time that has happened.
