Two ISTEPS Forward, One ISTEP Back

The results of the ISTEP tests will be released today. IPS B.S. found out scores are up slightly at most schools but they still nowhere close to acceptable. At Arlington scores are down which means it is the best candidate for takeover from the state. Get ready to meet your new employer, the State of Indiana.

  1. It's posts like this that confirm our blogmaster is Abdul Hakim-Shabazz. Who else would have this data other than media, which was given the info under embargo? Not a teacher, who would have info only for one school. Add the negative spin, and yep, it's Abdul. Here's the real deal: Scores at every grade level in math and English/language arts are up -- every grade level. And Sidener is the top school in the state for percentage of students passing both English/language arts and math. And that's no BS.

Arlington has been such an out of control mess for several years now and should just be closed. Then no student would have to be exposed to that toxic situation. Jackie Greenwood ran that school into the ground.

Actually the scores have leaked out days ago. I am not Abdul and I could have told you the results....Mary Louise, your rosy scenario does not exist.

I also have the scores and I am not Abdul. Yes, the scores went up. But look were they were last year. As for Sidener, it has the top students within IPS. Students have to be tested and accepted to attend the school. As for taking over the schools, I'm betting the IDOE will take over two schools. Arlington and a middle school. Gambold or Donnan is my guest. Good job Mary Louise at trying to put a spin on things. As an FYI, Mrs. Bewley has violated the embargo by giving us the information. Therefore, you are in the same boat as Abdul. They said interracial dating was on the rise...

You can locate the scores online, and THAT'S the real deal. I think people want to argue with the blogmaster just to argue. Before you do, think about what you say because most of the time you end up looking stupid.

When you go from a 19% pass rate to a 20% pass rate, there is no reason to celebrate.

Hey....one percent is enough for Eugene to get another huge cash bonus! It truly refects his hard work and dedication to our children and their future.

Good one, Dr. White! Now you can go shoe shopping again!

Or maybe BP will hire you to facilitate cleaning the Gulf of Mexico. A man with your talents is just what they need!

Mary Louise should stop spending so much time on the computer and get a treadmill in her office.

  9. 1. The original post was made before the embargo was lifted, and the general public did not have access. Soo, to the person who said you could find the data online, THAT'S THE REAL DEAL.
    2. My data = I'm not under an embargo. Learn your terms if you're going to throw them around.
    3. Your rude personal comments don't affect me in the least.

I am happy that we are doing better. Why can't we be grateful for a second before getting ready to go back and try to make even greater gains? What is the point in insulting each other?

Sidener should have the highest scores, this district plows lots of money into it's "High Ability" school. Now, how about spread the techniques and the cash around.

I had to laugh about the person who was all hyped about Sidener, well to be honest, their scores should of been off the charts. Not!

Oh Mary Louise, you make me laugh so.

If the ISTEP+ scores were leaked or not, it doesn't make one iota of difference. The scores are what they are.

After looking at the scores for all IPS schools, it was evident that the community high schools are not doing well at all, at least for grades 7 and 8. Actually, 'not doing well at all' is an understatement. Their scores were abysmal.

Mary Louise, Obviously the personal comments do upset you or else you wouldn't feel the need to say they don't. You could have taken the "higher road" and let it go.

I have to laugh; "we" are doing better in spite of Dr. White, the "bobble headed" Board Members, and the some very unique administrators. I do like the fact that we do study the scores and note which grades are improving or failing, shine on teachers.

I love the comment about the need for a treadmill in Mary Louise Bewley's office. I suspect the stress of telling lies for Eugene White is driving her to binge eating.

Are the taxpayers funding Dr. White's automotive expenses while he is driving Mary Louise for her binge sessions?

Can I get a lift, too?

The comments about people are uncalled for and should stop.

I would say after viewing the scores the district should sit back and evaluate if community schools (grades 7-12) are educationally effective.

It looks like those MS students should be in stand alone buildings away from the HS based on scores alone. I know that is not cost effective to the school board having other buildings open but it looks like it is educationally sound to think about.

Just a comment from a concerned parent who's child will most likely be at one of the three community schools on the eastside in the next two years.

Mary Louise has very large thighs and they are very chunky with some nasty veins that need to be taken care of soon Mary Louise. Please longer skits Mary Louise and start walking at lunch time to lose about thirty pounds.

"It's posts like this that confirm our blogmaster is Abdul Hakim-Shabazz."

No way, he wants IPS buried because the law magnet wouldn't hire him and or they dumped on some of his friends in the past. His hatred and misinformtaion of IPS, teachers unions and love of charter schools are comical. We only hear one side of the issue- HIS and his political party. His excuses and patronization for Daniels, Ballard and Bennett are oh so predictable that they are humorous. I DO listen to his shows but I watch science fiction too. Neither are believable and the outcomes are predictable. He does admit to being a comedian and it shows even when he's kissing up to his pals. I'm sure he uses this blog for his anti-IPS rants too.

Why should she walk if Dr. White will be driving? I wouldn't, if I had that resource.
We must get something for all the taxes paid in Center Township.

Leave Mary Louise alone. I can't imagine having her job. With all the flak she takes, she should receive combat pay. She deserved to be driven to any binge she chooses, and whom better to do the driving?

Just don't put our sixth graders back in middle school, please. We're proud of their achievements!

The anonymous poster above shows his/her lack of knowledge of the IPS district by referring to taxes paid in Center Township. IPS has parts of Wayne, Pike, Washington, Lawrence, Warren and Perry Township also. Property in those parts of those townships pay taxes also and their children attend IPS. Let's quit trying to make this a Center Township issue.

What if we changed our name to Center Township Schools? Then we would be a "township" school too and everyone would think nice thoughts about us.

  25. AnonymousJune 18, 2010

SO that means Mary Louise gets to ride in a really nice car, right? Hope it's air conditioned. (Unlike my school, which still isn't).

Center Township taxes could provide only a clunker.

Donut townships, thank you for your continued support.

Matt Tully has an article in Today's paper praising the charter school, "Met." He praises the principal for what works and not on problems. Not once did Tully mention a specific solution. It was one more nod for charter schools and the poor, uneducated public will get on that bandwagon!

If we changed our name to Center Township Schools, would we have to kick out all of our students who live in other townships that are part of IPS? Would property owners in other townships that are part of IPS no longer have to pay IPS taxes?

Since school districts cannot charge tuition for out district students anymore. It would not matter.

I do think that eventually the IPS and Indianapolis Public Schools need to be changed. The negative outcry for years has tarnished the name and can never be recovered in my opinion.

When score going up reach a certain level than the district needs to change the name to something that would be more positive.

JMO as a parent in the district.

I'm another IPS parent, and I agree that when more improvements have been made in IPS, we need to change the name of the district or maybe even have the district pieced out and absorbed by the township schools. The one thing that I think should be done sooner rather than later, is to stop identifying the elementary schools by their numbers. Use their names. There is a stigma associated with the numbered schools in Indianapolis.

Go visit the Indy Met and see what you think. I yanked my kid out of there. As with all of Tully's "journalism" it all depends on the kinds of questions you ask, or don't ask in this case.

I want to know why elementary teachers don't get paid more than middle and high school teachers? We have to teach many subjects and don't get a prep time for each subject. Also, we have to do lunch duty or bus duty. Oh, and our scores are better...much better.

  32. HI, I'm new to this blog...I am one of those that is paying Perry taxes and IPS is our school system. I have a deaf/hard of hearing 3 1/2 yr. old and have been fighting to get her into Mary Bryan school (Perry) since April. We are now requesting mediation. They are fighting tooth and nail for my handicapped child. Did you know handicapped children are worth double? yea, now I understand. Anyways....suggestions? Anyone else fought this fight? The reason we are fighting is she used signed exact english and IPS went all oral this year. The teacher is very nice, but....it just doesn't meet her needs. Suggestions, comments. I have an advocate from Hands and Voices. Just wanted to pick your brains. Thanks all
