Where Do Broken Hearts Go?

Be careful who you sleep with in IPS. If you are a principal sleeping with a teacher and get caught you will get promoted or nothing will happen to you. If you are a teacher, you get transferred and penalized.

The "Bobble Headed" Board Members knew about the affair and stuck their heads in the sand. Well I hope the English teachers heads to a good Civil RightsEOE attorney like Robert Turner and drags IPS down the dirty alleys and then forces "White People Can't Teach Black Students" to pay out of his own pocket. Sounds like a wonderful excuse for Mary Louis to get up and dance for the televison crews with her large thunder thighs and legs. Girl just put the skirt down, you are way too big to show off those gross legs.

My understanding is that there is a lawsuit coming and a complaint with the EEOC coming and all of the board members and Eugene White will be involved because they were aware of the situation and enabled the principal to get away with it while punishing the teacher. The teacher will be back at her school when school starts. Ask Jane Kendricks how many emails she has received from students and parents over this situation.

This sounds like an interesting story; however, we need more details. Where these two people caught having their affair on IPS property?

While I agree that if the teacher is disciplined, the principal should be, too, if that teacher returns to her school she is going to face a lot of hardships. It's pretty common knowledge who the teacher/principal & school are, so if she doesn't think students alone will bring it up, I'm surprised. Please pardon my ignorance, but although it's inappropriate for obvious reasons, why was the teacher disciplined? They are two consenting adults.

This stuff has been going on for years. This time the teacher posted the information about the relationship on her Facebook page, not too smart on her part and the principal shouldn't have become romantically involved with a faculty member. Neither had the sense to be discreet.

This is just plain wrong. Both should have been fired! But since they weren't I guess teachers should just turn their heads when the students are having sex in the schools. What an example.

So, old school, and you know he is a fat dude now, must of been roacking the school building? No wonder his children go to a private school, nothing like daddy humping a teacher at your school to bring a family together. Then Jane wrote the lady up for being a lously lay and move her to another school. Now, Mary Louise dance with those chunky vein covered legs for the press to get your point across. Dr. White told the Board that is was only one time, and the the principal was sorry that he got caught. File that complaint the public wants to heard about the fools at the Education Center.

As an IPS parent, I find the personal attacks and meanness infinitely more disturbing than who is sleeping with who. If I knew which teachers mock speech impediments and ridicule heavy people, I would definitely make sure these people were never near my children. If I knew which teachers were having an affair, it might make for some interesting gossip, but other than that, I don't see how it's my business. Give me sleazy over mean any day of the week. You can accomplish a lot of good, even if you're sleazy. You can only accomplish evil if you're mean.

This certainly isn't the first time a principal and/or superintendent have had an affair with a teacher. Remember the infamous cat fight in the Ed. Center a few years ago. What makes this so sleaszy is that the teacher was punished and the fatass principal was not touched. I hope this comes out as soon as I have heard. It will make Eugene and the bobble headed school board look like fools as they all know about the situation. It will also expose them to a huge discrimination suit.

Is the principal married? I have heard two different stories. The teacher acted like a teenager by posting information on her Facebook page. Her behavior was not very professional at all, especially if what I hear is true--that she used her IPS computer to do it. Personally, this is another example of men being unable to think straight when all the blood is leaving their brain and going to one area of their body. For those of us who know the teacher, we could have told him she is a little....unstable, for lack of a better word. Another example is why would she even want to return to this same school? And what is wrong with IPS even entertaining the idea of sending her back. It will be a nightmare for both os them not to mention dangerous for him.

I am also an IPS parent, as well as an IPS educator. I look upon this site as I do Wikipedia: another example of our great nation's freedom of speech. You have a choice: to visit this site, or not.

A few examples: Last weekend was Indy's celebration of alternative lifestyles. Knowing that, did you go downtown? Several years ago, the Klan choose to rally at the Statehouse. Knowing that, did you go downtown?

If you are aware of the possibility of disrespectful posts, and you click here anyway, don't react negatively when you visit. I want my children (and students) to develop a sense of humor and the ability to differentiate between mean, evil comments, and playful banter. Otherwise, you'd better not watch another Elmer Fudd cartoon, or you will be picketing Warner Brothers' products. And, God help your child when Lucy makes fun of Ricky Ricardo's thick Cuban accent.

I won't go after a person with weight issues. My issue is with an administrator who dominates, belittles, points accusatory fingers at everyone except himself, and ignores obvious infractions, all the while collecting kudos for every positive occurance within our school system, all while ignoring the vast resources available which could correct his impediment with therapy and practice.

If you feel inappropriate behavior between "professional" adults makes for interesting gossip, I pray that you and your children are never near me and mine. Your children are apparently being fed a diet of sleaze, if the environment you provide for your dependents is one of sex, gossip, and limited morals. You feel that good can be done with sleaze. Yours will be the students other parents complain about, and you will be the topic of conversations in the lounge.

Every person can set an example, be it good or bad.

So, please feel free to use your constitutional rights to reply. I'll be here, respecting your right.

You're right, you have your right to freedom of speech, and if I don't want my kids taught by you, then my only choice is to switch schools, right? (since I don't know who you are to be able to avoid you directly). And too many teachers like some of the ones who post here are pushing many parents to do exactly that. Which is a shame. Because I really do believe in public education, or at least the ideal of it. But if you were a parent and you read this blog, wouldn't it make you cynical? I mean if adults solve their disputes by posting embarrassing and mean-spirited comments on the Internet and respond to those who disagree with them by accusing them of being poor parents, then what possible value can these people be to students? To society? Most toddlers have more decency than what you're displaying (you personally, others who post similar comments, those who are amused by you, and the blogmaster who starts these ridiculous threads).

I'm a teacher, and I do agree with the parent regarding making fun of speech problems, weight issues, etc. We teach our children not to do this, so it's hypocritical for us to do it. My opinion. We are all different and some choose to express themselves differently that others. I don't counteract against those who do it, I just chose to look past it and read between the lines.

Myself, I'd be too embarrassed to publicly admit that sleazy gossip is interesting, especially in such a public forum. But, everyone has to believe in something, right?

Being cynical is a good thing. The cynics create change. It's those who accept the status quo who resign our society to stagnation. Perhaps that's why the high-tech jobs are going to nations other than ours.

I'm curious.....does your child have the latest video game, or a well-used library card? Is your child parked in front of the television this summer, or is he/she actively participating in one of the hundreds of educational opportunities our city offers (see today's IndyStar....you, too, can volunteer). Does your child see you reading, or simply pecking away on your keyboard? Are you active in your school's parent organization, or are you content to let the few do the work? Have you spent time volunteering at your school, or are you too busy making a living? When was the last time you read to your child, or you heard him/her ready to you or a sibling? Is your child alert and ready for the new day's challenge, or is he/she in attendance because it's the law? (Ask your child why he/she goes to school. Most students answer, "Because I have to.")

You are so busy bashing the few IPS educators who choose to let their opinions be known that it hasn't occurred to you that we fervently support change for the better. Those scores that were published? We sweated to achieve each percentage point.

We get the hungry (for food, guidance, recognition, affirmation) students who have never held a pencil. Our social workers and custodians provide clean clothing and bags of food. I'd wager that 80% of our staff members have crackers, peanut butter and jelly stashed away for needy kids. Our older students are thrilled at receiving clean socks. Educators spend their own money or join Teachers' Treasures to gather soap, combs, towels, and deodorant for their students. We get the parents who think their child knows his/her alphabet because of a little song (Until I was four, I believed LMNOP was one letter, because of that song! If W is a letter, then so is LMNOP.) We get parents who "dumb down" their children to qualify for full day kindergarten, which provides transportation to and from school, and two meals per day. At one point, I believe this was a way to play the system; I later learned that it was survival, since the food stamp allotment ran out way before the beginning of the next month. These same students ate little if anything on the weekend.
Many of our children have experience horrors we can't imagine. I'll never forget the parent who asked for a flashlight and batteries so her children could do their homework. It seems there was so much crime in their neighborhood, they couldn't turn on lights for fear of attack.

If you do manage to get to school, try to come in the morning, and do an informal survey of the percentage of students who bring a pencil. Some can't, others won't. But they always have money for the juice machine at lunch! Priorities rule!

I have to find humor in my daily routine, or I'd spend my day crying. I invite you to monitor your own occupation. Count how many times you chuckle at someone else's expense, be it a boss, coworker, or customer.

Yes, I click "Anonymous", but so do you. I won't know which parents are mine until I hear of your spreading "interesting gossip." Under NCLB, you can transfer your child to the school of your choice. I'm stuck there with you.

And teachers weren't embarrassed when Eugene White said 60% weren't doing their jobs, on the front page of the paper? And teachers aren't angry that their right to teach effectively has been taken away by Springboard, Benchmarks, and Pacing guides? And teachers aren't upset that they have one ineffective administrator after another? This blog is an attempt on the part of teachers, some administrators, and others who know what is going on to shine some light into the dark corners of IPS.

This is a system that has been run for years to benefit certain groups. Students and parents fall down on the bottom of that list, not at the top.

Those who see this as a problem are angry, and being angry in IPS is a dangerous thing. There is a local man who is an expert in democratic schools and used to work for IPS, until he voiced his opinion to Busch and White that he thought that the uniform policy was undemocratic and overly authoritarian, he was fired the next week, for these comments. And IPS administrators lied in the depositions, did you know they had the ability to hear what was said in a private conversation in a crowded auditorium fifty feet away, well according to the deposition they can. Currently this person is suing.

So for those of you who wonder about the venting that goes on here realize that teachers are powerless in this system, and know what is going on is simply WRONG.

There's probably nothing that can legally be done about some of the comments on this blog, but I do want to make something really clear. This blog does not represent a single teacher I know, and I've been a teacher longer than my (secondary) students have been alive. Most of us are ethical professionals, and would never in a million years resort to personal insults and malicious gossip in response to conflicts, let alone post it on the Internet. I highly doubt the people who do post such ugliness are even teachers at all, but even if they are, I assure you they are a tiny, tiny minority of IPS teachers. Blogmaster and pals, if you want to post garbage, there's little that can be done. But don't drag IPS teachers down by pretending you speak for us. You don't. We're as outraged by you as anyone else who read this blog would be. It's a shame. This blog could be (and has been occasionally) such a positive resource.

The dirty laundry can't be cleaned until it is exposed to daylight and people know it exists. I wonder if in the administrative classes teach administrators that it is inappropriate to have affairs with teachers they supervise. I wonder if IPS Human Resources ever mentions to administrators that it is inappropriate to have affairs with teachers on their staff. I wonder why Eugene White and the board only feel the need to punish the teacher involved and not the administrator. Mary Busch ought to be ashamed..but she probably isn't.

    ReplyDelete
  44. AnonymousJune 19, 2010

Insulting people isn't venting. It's just insulting people. Gossip isn't venting either. Venting is "I hate this new policy" or "OMG if they want me to be accountable for the results, they need to let me control the curriculum and pace." or "It's so frustrating to work in a district where so many positive things are happening and have the media posting nothing but negativity. And then someone starts a blog, apparently for teachers, and it's even worse than the media. If a teacher posts something good that' happening, they're called stepford teachers and accused of betraying their coworkers. When I vent to friends and family, they just tell me to move districts. Only other IPS teachers would really understand why that feels like selling out."

Making fun of a lisp or cellulite has nothing to do with venting. It only displays a lack of character and a lack of conflict resolution skills.

    ReplyDelete
  45. AnonymousJune 19, 2010

Why would someone need to be told that it's inappropriate? We all know that it is, however it's not against the law. I have done things that I know are inappropriate. We all have. It's bad judgement and makes them look like poor role models to the students and staff alike, but if it isn't against the rules of IPS, then they cannot hold these people accountable (unless physical contact occurs on school property). To punish the teacher for this is ridiculous. If IPS feels the need to punish, then both parties need to be involved.

    ReplyDelete
  46. AnonymousJune 19, 2010

I am in agreement. If one party is punished then both parties should be. This was a consensual affair. It is the one sided punitive actions of Eugene White that has even brought this situation to the public and will continue to do so until some equity is meted out.

    ReplyDelete
  47. AnonymousJune 19, 2010

Inappropriateness is contagious. The germ starts at the top and slowly spreads to every nook and cranny of the system. It is very hard to teach when fighting that ugliness each day. IPS would do well to have top administrators incorporate a mantra of respect, excellence, encouragement, dignity, thoughtfulness, and the Golden Rule into every aspect of administration. The example would create an atmosphere of decency in IPS, something teachers have not experienced from many administrators in recent years.

It's not fair that she was punished for her actions, but she isn't stupid.....she knew what she was doing. Additionally, they put it out there, making it fair game for people to talk about. Unfortunately, it's a judgemental world that we live in and if you don't want to be judged, keep your antics IN the bedroom.

Wow. You are the prime example of what is wrong with this world. I don't believe I said anything negative about the teacher. Saying she knew what she was doing isn't negative. I'm simply saying that for all those people being rude to others (yourself for instance) because they are discussing the situation, the activity was made public. If you don't want to be talked about, don't let others know what you are doing.

I agree. I don't know why anyone would want to be in an intimate relationship with this fatass. racist, arrogant, lying bag of wind. This young lady did, however. Then Eugene and the school board took their unjust discriminatory action. This case should not be pushed to be background but Eugene White and Mary Busch and the other bobbleheads on the board need to be held accountable. I believe that they will be.

I work at Shortridge. I know little of what's going on but I do know this: the teacher you speak of is quite “different” to say the least, but she is also the most dedicated, hard-working, caring, teacher this district has seen in a long time. The kids love and respect her at the same time, which these two traits are normally not mutually exclusive. The energy she puts off is unsurpassed and the building has not been the same since she has been gone. On the other hand, she does not deserve special treatment if she has engaged in practices that are unprofessional.

  75. AnonymousJune 20, 2010

I am sorry that she was seduced by the administrator and lost her husband/home. Maybe she will be placed at a school that will treat her with respect and as a professional. But you never mix work and lust, problems happen. Students that respect and love a teacher is wonderful.

I laughed at the post about sending Crosby to Arlington Community School, you are right he would last one week. He lacks discpline skills and he trys to play like a "bro" to the students. This is what happens when you take a unexperienced teacher (CELL is not teaching) and place him in the lead role of the leader of a new concept school. Well, I hear Dr. Scuggs is failing at his new job, maybe Crosby can become his acting "paper pusher". All from IWU!

Unless the two involved post their business on here, no one knows what is true and what isn't. I work in IPS and am embarrassed by this blog. I check in periodically because my non-IPS friends stumbled upon it and I have to know what's being said in order to state the REAL facts. I know that some things posted are true, but information gets so twisted that it's hard to differentiate truth from lies. Mr. Cosby and Mr. Scruggs have both watched to many episodes of Welcome Back Kotter. They both believe if there was the right teacher everyone of these kids who have suffered years of educational neglect, by parents, teachers, society, and their own personal choices would suddenly bloom and be geniuses.

I visited a respected administrator once and they had a sign on their desk that said "Get the child ready for the road, not the road ready for the child". It is a disservice to do what we are doing, changing the school environment to accommodate the bad habits of children (and their families). We're setting them up for another generation of poverty.

This principal and his public indiscretion is a bad example of how to manage your own life. This is not a private matter, it showed extremely poor judgment, in every workplace sex with a subordinate employee is frowned upon or simply forbidden.

    ReplyDelete
  86. AnonymousJune 21, 2010

It is not a personal matter when a school administrator uses his position to have an affair with a teacher he is supposed to supervise. What makes it worse is when the superintendent and the school board find out and punish the teacher but treat the principal like he is a hero!!! The IPS administration is corrupt.

This situation is a public matter because the parties involved are paid with public taxpayers' monies. This did not occur between co-workers at IBM, Joe's Crab Shack, or the local CVS.

I'm just a citizen, not a teacher, not even a parent, but I can't imagine a school ever hiring a teacher that doesn't think good teachers can make an enormous impact on at-risk students. I mean if that's the case, that teachers don't matter, then why not use computer programs to teach the privileged kids and hire bouncers to control the kids that you don't think will ever amount to anything regardless of what teachers do?

    ReplyDelete
  109. AnonymousJune 22, 2010

I don't think "trailer park trash" is appropriate, but "ghetto" would suffice. These "folks" no matter their race need to do their jobs rather than each other.

    ReplyDelete
  110. AnonymousJune 22, 2010

Actually "Trashy Behavior" is probably the most appropriate. Lots of fine people live in trailers, and ghetto has been co-opted to mean inner city low income black. This problem has nothing to do with race or income, it has to do with morality.

Ghetto may indeed describe IPS if you go to the third meaning.

    1. area of city inhabited by minority: an area of a city lived in by a minority group, especially a run-down and densely populated area lived in by a group that experiences discrimination

    2. Jewish quarter: in former times, an area in European towns in which the Jewish population was required to live

    3. environment of isolation: an environment where a group of people live or work in isolation, whether by choice or circumstance

What no one was upset that the counselors at Arlington were at war with each other. They were throwing insults, books, papers, and one demanded a new school under the management of Dr. Scuggs, super hero principal? The "Bobble Headed" Board needs to look at the administrators leadership style, not just that they are black. I laughed out loud when I heard that Shipp was taking the lead at Arlington, that girl is afraid of her own shadow. How many other administrators are at Arlington now - seven or eight?

Unless you ARE the teacher, then you don't know if ANY of this is true. Again, I say, he did not vent his private feelings on that stupid Facebook. This is no young girl, she is in her late 30's and that is something a high school girl would do when her boyfriend broke up with her. I am not the teacher but her friend and I've seen it in writing. I've seen the texts, the emails . . . it's all true. And correction, she is in her upper 30s. I've also been in the room when they were talking on the phone, which often made me gag. Again, she did act in a very uncharacteristic way, which ANYONE has the capability to do when faced with the kind of upset she was faced with. It doesn't make her a bad person, just a person who was not thinking clearly because she was upset. We've all done it, don't judge. And if you guys saw him at the movies, etc. with other women you probably should have said something to her long before. It would have saved her a lot of heartache. No offense intended, but I've had many grad classes with teachers from all over the state. The ones from MY own district are the ones I'd least likely want to date compared to say the teachers from Noblesville of better yet Center Grove. Working at IPS has KEPT me single and celibate which can probably be construed as a good thing. And the tattoed single moms I meet??? All I have to do is worry about my students and the teaching....A man is only as faithful as his options and there are none here. And that's a good thing. You shouldn't date co-workers anyway. Stretched out in a Shortridge display case with a poster saying "Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History" is an inappropriate picture for a teacher to post of herself Online. Clever it is; appropriate for the world to view, it's not.

This is the teacher who spent an entire semester planning a big, fabulous weddong on school time--the students themselves told it!! The photo album alone had to cost $5,000 or more .
