Kill The Messenger

Some people have posted here complaining about the recent you tube clips of students behaving poorly. They say IPS B.S. is the bad guy here. IPS B.S. did record the footage, nor did it engage in the behavior. IPS B.S. didn't raise those kids nor did it have supervision over them. There are a lot of individuals who can be blamed for what you've seen this week, but IPS B.S. isn't one of them.

  1. Eugene White and the do nothing school board who fail to support building admministration or teachers. All they want is a cover up to keep good PR for Eugene's resume which he will need to be using soon.

  2. Not sure what GOOD comes from these videos. It makes me sad to see them here. This crap doesn't happen at ALL IPS schools and it DOES happen at other schools, private, parochial charter etc. This is a societal problem NOT just an IPS thing. I'm proud of where I teach and WHO I teach. Nothing good comes of this exposure. It's sad. Sorry, just my opinion. Love, don't hate!

  3. I agree with whoever made the analogy to porn with underage teens in it. It doesn't matter who created it, it's still wrong to view it and share it. Same thing with these videos. You don't distribute media that contains violence against children on it. I don't know if they are actually illegal or not, but they are certainly against the policy of YouTube as well as every webhost and bloghost in existence, so obviously it's not just a few posters with extreme viewpoints. I think it's pretty much the standard of civilized society that this kind of thing is inappropriate.

That said, I don't even think they prove what you want them to prove. I've lived in many districts in my life, and all of them have fights. IPS may be worse or it may not, I don't know. But the videos don't tell us one way or the other. They only tell us that kids fight.

  4. This fight over whether it's OK to post the fights on this blog should end. It shouldn't be done anymore. Let's leave it at that.

  5. If your going to post the bad -- then post the good.

You are a bitter old, grumpy and suck in its ways person.

Never does IPS BS provide any suggestions for improvement.

You, my friend, are a loser.

  6. Here are five 'good' sentences to read.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
    · What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
    · The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
    · When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.
    · You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

  7. @cry babies, flash backs to “when ipsbs was good” and part time lawyers

You are absolutely right… the blog use to better when the majority of posts DID follow the topic, when it wasn’t an editorial about morality and when you did not try to aimlessly crucify the blogmaster for reporting the news.

Get off his/her nuts already about their choice of topics, “legal and moral obligations” and the ability to create some news worthy event which this blog could discuss. I admire the creativity to find something to talk about on a daily basis. If you dislike the choice of topic for the day, press any combination of back arrow, home page or that little red x in the top right hand corner of your browser. Check back tomorrow. Repeat.

  8. Eugene White is having his lapdogs comment on here since he can't do his usual lying, covering up and distortions on this blog. His days as superintendent are numbered anyway. He will be joining lots of other Hoosiers on the unemployment line.

  11. Indianapolis Public School Superintendent Dr. Eugene White may soon be defending more than his proposed budget cuts.

At a budget hearing this week, IPS officials kicked out a couple attendees who were videotaping the budget meeting. The attendees were from Michigan and were filming the meeting for a documentary on teachers unions. They had been taping for 40 minutes before spokeswoman Mary Louise Bewley threw them out for being “disingenuous”. Apparently this is all on tape and I’m trying to get a copy of it. When I do, I will post the exchange here.

Where IPS may be in legal trouble is that public meetings of public bodies have to be open to the public. And government officials can’t expel members of the public from the meeting for being “disingenuous”. The law is pretty clear when it comes to recording public meetings…

Ind. Code § 5-14-1.5-3(a) – “…all meetings of the governing bodies of public agencies must be open at all times for the purpose of permitting members of the public to observe and record them.” (emphasis added). The courts have also upheld that rule as well. In Berry v. Peoples Broadcasting Corp., 547 N.E.2d 231, 234 (Ind. 1989), the Indiana Supreme Court affirmed a trial court’s ruling that governing bodies may not ban the reasonable use of tape recorders at public meetings.

I don’t know what IPS was thinking by kicking the camera crew out the meeting, especially since they had been there taping for 40 minutes and not disturbing anyone.

IPS will have to respond to the complaint that will be filed with Indiana’s Public Access Counselor.

  12. To "get off his nuts" the blogmaster started an entirely new discussion trying to convince people it was okay to post videos of violence against children. Obviously, that is going to get replies that disagree. If he wants people to drop it, he needs to do two things. Stop posting the videos and stop starting more discussions about it.

  13. Mary Louise Bewley can actually take the 'public' out of Indianapolis Public Schools. Wow, I'm amazed after watching the above video clip of an IPS budget hearing meeting. Her operating style is better suited for a private school.

  15. I highly doubt that the Michigan film crew had honest intentions, especially if Mitch's "radio buddy" had anything to do with it. He hates IPS and everything connected with it. He lies all the time and attacks any entity, especially public schools, that crosses or exposes the Governor's short comings. I don't know how many times the guy has lied or either told half-truths about the school district to entertain his "Tea Party" crowd. Most don't even live in our district anyway. If the film crew had honest intentions they would have identified themselves and asked for private interviews. In these days of media manipulation anyone with a camera can make anyone look like a serial killer.

Tired old conservative rants that can't explain why the Reagan tax cuts didn't make the country more prosperous. Here are some of mine:

You can't keep kicking a man when he's down and expect him to rise up.

Just because someone has a lot of money does not mean he's earned it. He may have inherited it or stole it!

Of course poor people don't create jobs however many successful people were once poor and chose not to remain so. Regardless of govt. handouts.

Sometimes hard work will just get you a bad back. You have to be lucky too. Many are not. That's why they are called the working poor.

Funny how people rail against welfare but look the other way with corporate welfare which costs us three times as much and isn't always reported.

  17. After watching this video of the crew being kicked out of public meeting and knowing the law. I am wondering how long before someone files a suite against the district.

Who will be the fall guy then? Bewley? How much will the district take away from educating our children to defend this wrongful action on their (ISP) part?

How will they spin this to attack the teachers?

It does not matter who sent them for what purposes. PUBLIC MEETINGS are for the PUBLIC who can record. IPS does not want those with afluence or having a forum or platform to point out their wrong doings. This is whey they kicked the crew out.

Time for Dr. White and all the administration downtown to get RIF notices with no recall!

Divide and conquer. Don't allow ways that one hand knows what is going on with the other.

This video shows they really DON'T WANT public involvement.

  19. Wow. I cannot believe she would have the audacity to kick the media out of a public meeting. I agree, that I will be very surprised if there is no lawsuit. It's as if IPS is TRYING to commit suicide??!!

  20. I knew when I saw this topic, it was opening a whole new can of worms. While I agree that by creating this topic, the blogmaster was asking for negative comments, you cannot blame them for all of the videos being posted. Only one video was posted in the topic section by the blogmaster. A number of posters have pasted video links here.

  21. Mary Louise Bewley looks like horrible snapping at her fingers at the adults that she threw out of the meeting like they were dogs. It doesn't matter why they were there, it was a PUBLIC meeting. They were not disrupting or causing a problem. Eugene did not want his lies on video plain and simple. See you in court!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. @I highly doubt that the Michigan film crew had honest intentions

Intentions do not matter. The two folks filming the public meeting were not unreasonable, not disruptive and were not causing a scene. In fact, if Andy Gammill, the Indy Star reporter, had not called the filming to Bewley's attention, she'd have never realized the public meeting was being taped.

On the other hand, Gammill's pointing out the filming to Bewley does raise concern regarding his now apparent cozy relationship with the Ed Center administration. He's surely cognizant of Sunshine Laws and Indiana's Public Access Codes; yet, he makes a visible move to tell Bewley the public meeting is being filmed; she becomes visibly determined to squelch the filming; end of story, at least for now.

Nothing good comes from the censorship of public meetings.

    ReplyDelete
  23. If what is said here is true about Gammill's actions at that public meeting, he should resign immediately and no longer call himself a "professional journalist."

This is why The Indianapolis Star continues to lose credibility with its readers.
