There is controversy tonight over whether Eugene used the n-word in a recent meeting with parents. Was anyone there who can verify this? And has he ever used it before in a public forum?
As I said before White did use the N word and made comments about the blacks doing what the white's man and the KKK could not do. Then he said you can't blame the 3-4 white people here you have to blame the N-word people.

Well it's self-defeating to decide not to pass on this information (assuming it's true) because you don't think anyone do anything about it, and then judge people for not doing something about a situation they have no way of knowing about. Not to mention that without corroboration, it's just gossip. I can't believe supposedly educated people are so comfortable spreading unsubstantiated rumors on this site.

Dr. White made two visits to Arlington, after his publicized slash and burn visit, he made a second visit the following week, since the students have learned that rules are really not rules. He had a second parent meeting for the second group of student suspended.
An important new study should be required reading at the headquarters of Indianapolis Public Schools as the district continues to work through the current round of spending and budget cuts. It also should lead to demands that the district spend less at its headquarters and more on teachers in classrooms.
Teach Plus, a nonprofit organization that works to keep top teachers in urban schools, conducted the study. It explores the disturbing gap between salaries earned by IPS teachers and those earned by their counterparts in surrounding school districts. From the beginning of their careers until the end, the report found, teachers in IPS, where the work environment is much more challenging and frustrating, earn substantially less than those in other Marion County districts.
"Why has the teaching profession become a revolving door in Indianapolis Public Schools?" the report asks. "The teachers in IPS can tell you why. IPS teachers flock to the surrounding Marion County schools where they can earn significantly higher salaries than those of IPS, and lock in better fringe benefit packages and working conditions." For example, first-year teachers in Franklin, Decatur and Wayne townships earn roughly 10 percent more, including benefits, than those in IPS. The problem continues as teachers gain more experience. "In every Marion County district, as teachers reach the top of the pay scale, they earn from 10 to 25 percent more than teachers at the top of the pay scale in IPS," Compared with an IPS teacher embarking on a 25-year career, one in Decatur "will earn nearly a quarter of a million dollars more."
The disparity can be felt in classrooms across the district, as it leads many new teachers to leave IPS for other school districts. Essentially, IPS is subsidizing those districts -- financing the early training of high-quality teachers who then spend most of their careers elsewhere. Two sections of the report add to the frustration. One emphasizes that IPS' situation is an unusual problem -- that in many metropolitan areas, teachers in the urban core are paid more than those in the suburbs. Another section reminds that per-student spending in IPS is near the top of the list.
"Where is the money going?" the report asks. "How is it being spent? The money is obviously not being allocated to teacher salaries." Ultimately, the most powerful section of the report comes at the end, in the stories of frustrated teachers. They tell of issues plaguing IPS schools, such as absenteeism and a lack of support from school administrators. Although few teachers are driven solely by salary concerns, the significant pay gap exacerbates the other frustrations and pushes many out the door. Sheila Akinleye has taught at Northwest High School for the past two years. She left a career in engineering to become a teacher in the hope of helping the district from which she graduated. But since she arrived, veteran teachers have urged her to "get out while you can, before you get too expensive" in the eyes of neighboring districts. She's sticking with IPS but wrote that she understands the thinking of those who leave it for districts "where the jobs pay more and are perceived as less challenging." Those who decide to teach in IPS often face monumental challenges. Time and again, though, both new and veteran teachers have told me they are motivated by a desire to improve their schools -- one student at a time. The district needs to find a way to encourage more people to undertake that challenge -- and it needs to stop giving so many good teachers good reasons to leave.
How about Forest Manor's use as professional development site?
I love how the staff can park their vehicles in a razor-wire enclosure, but PD attendees are welcomed to their choice of on-street or south lot spaces?
I never thought I'd miss the drive across town to the Somers Mansion.
People there for PD aren't full time employees of that location, therefore the premium parking SHOULD go to the people that work there daily. The on street parking and south lot spaces are fine in my opinion and I park there weekly. I have never had any problems. I think that keeping a location of that size open when very little of it is occupied is a waste of money, however.
It is a lot easier to park at Forest Manor than it ever was at Sommers mansion - the space is much more conducive to training. However, I am a bit concerned about the wasted space there with that huge foyer which is nicely furnished with new chairs, etc. What is on the second floor? I think we could condense some offices there but probably not the whole ED Center - although that would be nice. Also, what is downstairs except for the non-working pool? Maybe they could rent out some space there...
It's so difficult to sit through professional development without fire drills, fights in the hall, and seemingly endless public announcements. An alternative school would provide breaks in the day for PD participants, and exercise for the students.

If you watched Channel 8 today, you saw Dr. White lie straight out in front of the TV cameras. How can anyone allow this behavior? An IPS officer lost his job over this, but probably will be spun that he was part of the overall reduction in force based on the lack of funding. Call Amos Brown, call Channel 8, 6, 13, 59 if you are appalled by the superintendent's lack of ethics.
I just watched the Channel 8 news...This is awesome! Justice is finally served! It looks like Dr. White is finally going down just like the IPS graduation rates, SAT scores and ISTEP scores. Sweet! Perhaps we'll finally get an IPS boss who will give the taxpayers what they deserve--quality education for the youth of this city. Thanks to Channel 8 and the former IPS cop who blew the whistle. So how many people were in the meeting? How hard can it be to find out if he said it or not? Surely someone was running cell phone video. The news media would bid high $$ for that.
I was not there but would say this. I don't believe that the Superintendant should be fired for this if he did say it. I think he should be made to attend racial sensativity training (at his own expense), public reprimand by HIS OWN school board, and then put on a PIP.
This is how white employees have been treated for racial comments. I have watched very good vet teachers who had no malace use the word (I think rubbed off from all the student use) and been suspended, told to go to training, and transferred.
Treat Dr. White like any other employee (if indeed he did say this). I disagree with what Dr. White said on Channel 13. There is NO context what so ever that this word is allowed. It is a hateful and historical meaning that should NEVER be brought up again in our society. Except maybe within history context showing students how far we have come and why it should never be used today.
I have never heard Dr. White use the word, and I wasn't at the meting in question, but last year a meeting of Indianapolis area youth football league presidents and coaches was organized by IPS District Football Coordinator Emil Ekiyor a meeting made up of approximately 30 to 35 local residents, the Tech football head coach and staff and other IPS athletic and administration staff held at Arsenal Tech. Of those in attendance 3 were Caucasian, 1 was an IPS Athletic Director, 1 was a local pastor and the other a local business man who volunteered at an IPS school. During the meeting Victor Bush as Arsenal Tech's Athletic Director was given the floor and presented an passionate diatribe on the subject of inner-city athletes being poached by township schools to win them championships and then returned to the inner-city ill-prepared to cope or meet the challenges of their future life. The presentation itself was quite good, and actually I think most people involved in IPS athletics would if not agree at least understand the position, the issue is at the end of the speech he said and I quote "... well I am here to tell the white folk, the thank a n***** program is over" and I leave the grammar exact, insert the n-word (which I find so distasteful I cant even type it out) where the asterisks are.
After both his supervisor at Arsenal Tech and Jane Kendrick being made aware of this the superintendents office not only didn't fire or even punish Victor Bush... he was promoted. This use of the racial slur was verified by multiple people including an African-American IMPD detective. In the end it was just ignored... so to say that Dr. White should be fired for saying the n-word in a meeting is a bit presumptuous and given his own office's selective use of discipline for this behavior a bit naive... but the fact is that if a Caucasian IPS employee would have said the exact same thing he would have been fired the next day, period.
The word is probably the most ugly and offensive in the entire English language, it represents everything that is bad about our society and our countries history. It is inappropriate to use in any context and the fact that it has become to so many African-Americans like saying "dude" only enforces the fact that African-Americans in positions of influence on future generations should be educating them on what the word represents and why it must not be used in any context, not continuing to glorify it, that's a job for rappers and bigots, not our educators.
White people use the n-word for generations, and they still use the word. Who gives a damn about the n-word. I don't. Get over it. Leave Dr. White alone.
Along time ago, as a new teacher, I attended a meeting with my principal. We were their to hear Eugene White speak to us about something---I don't even remember the topic now. You see after Mr. White finished speaking he said," Well I guess I've shot my wad.Does anybody have any questions?" Now you see I came from a small town to Indianapolis to teach. My principal could tell I was in shock! He said something to the effect of "now I don't think he means that like it sounds----uh---I'm sorry." I'v have known that Mr. White was a crude, unprofessional man way before he became a superintendent. It's like the story of the old woman and the snake.She should have known when she feed him he would kill her----- after all, he is a snake!!!

Yes it was with the parents and kids of the Arlington that got kicked out of school about 2 weeks ago. The meeting was at the Ed center on 5-12-2010.
