Looking for a job in a school system that appreciates it´s teachers and does not have a bully and ego maniacfor a superintendent. I have had one interview and have two others scheduled ....there is hope that things will return to normal....

It seems like the beginning of the vacations are always so busy with appointments and errands and home cleaning/organization projects I've been putting off. But I have plans to take a little family road trip later in the summer. And I've got some gardening projects I want to tackle. I envy the poster above who is going to Europe. I've never traveled out of the country, but I hope to someday!

I babysit during the summer for my nieces and nephews who are off school. So much for taking a break from kids?! LOL! But it helps out my siblings, and I make a few bucks. And good luck to the teacher above hoping to change districts. I hope you find what you're looking for.

I understand about the teacher leaving the district, but they do understand that they will be the first let go in budget cuts. That is the only reason I have stayed with IPS, and I am in a high demand field.

I'm wondering what's happening at several of the schools that have had so many comments posted about the problems they've had this year. Does anybody have any info on Arlington, Shortridge, School #15, School #60? Any updates?

80 percent of the staff at school 15 tried to transfer out. Hunter gave great teachers bad recommendations to keep them there. Miriam House was still hitting kids up until the last day of school, but the social worker wouldn't do anything since she is Houses mothers! How is that for nepotism??
And the poor vice principal worked her ass off with no credit, as usual...

Why doesn´t someone report House to Child Protective Services..she has done that several times and is abusive....just because you are screwing the principal does not give you the right to abuse children.

I plan on spending time with my children, and doing reading lessons with friends' children who are entering into grade school.
I know the assistant principal at #15. She is a great person and a hard worker. It's a shame she doesn't get much credit.

I know what is not going on anymore...the tawdry love affair has ended......and the teacher was punished but the administrator was not.....

Haven't seen anything in the news about this affair, as some on here claimed it would be.

I Am enjoying hanging out with our children -- bike rides, going to the pool, and staying up late watching movies with them. I feel like they get neglected during the school year, and I LOVE spending time with them when I am not so stressed out!

I am teaching summer school. I still believe in our IPS children :) Best of luck to those who desire to leave. Not going to bash you or scare you about taking a new position. Do what you think is best for you and the IPS children.
@Shortridge comment- Gross, who would sleep with that bully?!?!

check the board report for info on the Shortridge sexual scandal.

Which board report? How do you recognize it as Shortridge?

There does not seem to be any references to a Shortridge sexual scandal in the board reports I have seen. The comment claiming this is true seems to be bogus.

I'm also planning to teach summer school, first time in a bunch-o-years.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the expectations in "Action Based Learning"?

Does each summer school location really have a Reading Coach?

Action Based Learning is easy to do with your students. There are about 7 stations that the children will rotate through with about 4-6 students per station. You will be given a book that outlines what to do at each station and you will get training from the district. The idea is to get those brains working better through a series of brain-based activities.

In past summer schools the schedule has allowed 1/2 hour per class per day to spend in the gym doing action-based learning. This replaces any kind of recess that we may have had prior to ABL. The students enjoy the time and there are few if any discipline problems during that time.

I am spending my summer reading, reading, reading. I get very little time during the year to read so summer break helps me to catch up.

I had a decent spa treatment with some color on the gray that now covers my head. Then off to Amalfi, Italy for some food, wine, and enjoying old friends on the beach. I might even price out a winter home, we can always dream.
