Another Fight?

Does anyone have details about the big fight at School #60?

50 comments:

  1. WAY off topic......

Is anyone else thoroughly disgusted at the mountain of testing inflicted upon our kids this week?

Diagnostics on ELA, Math, Social Studies, Science, plus Scrimmage in ELA, then Math SRE, are TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH in one week.

As of Monday, we will be pounding ISTEP into the kids.

Everything is due Friday. Hell, a third of our kids are sick, so make-ups are virtually impossible.

We are ORDERED (the email said mandated) to stop everything to watch a one-hour program this morning at ten. (Yes, I know there are alternate viewing times, but these all conflict with student arrival time, SACRED reading blocks, student lunch periods, student special area times, and dismissal.) I doubt that Dr. King would approve this.

Joan and Li-Yen, please think of the kids when demanding all this assessment.

I JUST WANT TO TEACH! PLEASE ALLOW ME THIS PROFESSIONAL COURTESY.

  4. I said this before, but the testing doesn't bother me as much as it does some of you. They test kids way more often in China, and instead of making kids more upset, they just see it as a routine part of school, like spelling tests. And I certainly don't think standardized tests keep me from teaching in some way. Quite the contrary, they prove that I'm teaching, and they prove to the kids that they're learning.

  5. I can see how the "new-age" methods of project-based evaluations would work for classroom assessments, but I don't know how we could do to replace traditional standardized tests for state and national statistics.

  6. Anyone feeling really motivated to join ICPE with Dr. White and Carole Craig?

  7. I wouldn't go to White Cathtle WIF Big Gene. He was tho happy to be WIF everyone at todayth thelbrathion at Attuckth. I LOVED the shot of him talking WIF Gore during thudent performantheth, while holding up hith program tho no one could thee his rudeneth.

    Cull-aththy.

Many thanks to the stagehand who moved the mike out of Barbara Boyd's face.

Pat Payne, this was one of the best I've seen. One suggestion: next year, please include words to "Lift Every Voice" so all students can understand the hope contained in that anthem.

Applause to all the students whose hard work shone through the entire program.

    One hour not wasted!

  8. What makes you think I'm a "sister"? That's stereotyping. There are male educators out here.

Testing every Friday, or every other Friday, or every three weeks would be routine. Spending five straight days watching kids wear their pencils down to nubs is NOT why I attended university.

    I JUST WANT TO TEACH!

  9. Where were the resources teachers today during testing? The ESL staff was too busy preparing for the tests they have to give next week. The Special Ed. teachers said the "required MLK video" messed up their schedule too much and they just could not come out to the school. Unfortunately, this is the norm and not the exception; they always have an excuse for not working with the students. Who is the failure here - the resource teachers, downtown or the building principal who accepts these excuses?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hold on......every single one of our staff worked with students. Our SPED educators took any child who needed make-up diagnostic tests today. Our Coach spent all day with the sixth graders. An ESL assistant took fourth and fifth grade pupils who had missed sections. The buzzing from the detention room was that staff member trying to scan all the answer sheets before dismissal.

We are proud to be a team. We do out best, in spite of what the Puzzle Palace sends us.

  11. Go look at the board meeting agenda...a bunch of admin changes.

    ReplyDelete
  12. As a special educator, I tested every student on my caseload AND assisted with makeup testing for non-special education students in addition to keeping all of my groups, meetings and duties for the week. I can't say that I blame the resource teachers in your building for not helping you with an attitude like that.

  17. Does IPS really need to spend $319,000 to buy a parking lot?

    ___________________________________________

    ****SUPERINTENDENT’S RECOMMENDATION:

I recommend approval of Resolution No. 7587– January 25, 2011 accepting the final Contract for Purchase of Real Estate to procure the property generally known as 1226 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street (parcel 1075277) and 517 Drake Street (Parcel 1096512) – The Revival Temple Apostolic Church and Parking Lot, for the purpose of supporting the instructional programs and improving the campus at Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet School. The subject property will be purchased from The Revival Temple Apostolic Church in the amount of $319,000.00. The final closing will be subject to obtaining clear title, and the satisfaction of all requirements of the executed purchase agreement. All purchases are subject to Budget and Administrative Approval.

  18. Phyllis Barnes is going to be the principal at Northwest...so you think they will appoint someone else over the instructional coaches or will those jobs be eliminated?

It looks like they are purchasing the church building as well as the parking lot.

    ReplyDelete
  19. My God are they really going to fire Robert Berry and Michael Sertic? What no "weed checkers", both are worthless and should of never been promoted to anything but a teacher's aid.

    ReplyDelete
  20. May I have one of their positions? I can measure mulch and count stained ceiling tiles!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Phyllis Barnes is a joke. She has been moved every year for the past 8 years. She didn't do much to control Marshall before Michael Sullivan took over.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Phyllis Barnes is worthless, truly a waste of space and money. Northwest I feel your pain and suffering for next year. Did Phyllis ever do anything outstanding, not to my memory and I worked with her.

    ReplyDelete
  23. After reading the personnel changes for next year am I to assume the DOE is not taking over some of the IPS schools?

    ReplyDelete
  24. OMG, Phyllis Barnes is going to Northwest as principal!!! That is simultaneously funny and sad. She has to be one of those people who Eugene really likes personally and protects, because professionally she is a big zero. The year that IPS switched to the new evaluation form, she did not use it. She said she wasn't gonna fill out all those pages cause it was silly. Barnes is the female equivalent of Larry Yarrell.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @It looks like they are purchasing the church building as well as the parking lot.

Yes, both the church and the parking lot are included in the purchase contract for $319K. After reading the article in the agenda, I noticed that IPS supposedly will raze the church building. Tearing down/removing the old church will add even more costs to this purchase.

  26. Saw that Cassie Shipp is being sent away from Arlington to an alternative school. That is sort of the kiss of death for an administrator in IPS. When you are not a good administrator, but when the Ed Center people like you a lot and don't want to fire you, they send you to an alternative school. Happened to Greg Allen, Kris Guess, and now Cassie Shipp.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Cassie Shipp was horrible as a teacher, special assignment and administrator. The Board needs to fire her, she could not pass the board exam for her license as a special education teacher? Just fire her and let her shine in a township school. Why keep the trash.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thank you for your comments.

  29. My God are they really going to fire Robert Berry and Michael Sertic?

"The Superintendent recommends the cancellation of the administrative contract or the following certificated personnel. The cancellation will become effective at the close of the 2010-2011 school year."

    ReplyDelete
  30. The IPS Board won't fire Shipp because Jackie Greenwood thinks Shipp is just dandy. No kidding...Jackie mentored and sponsored Shipp to become an administrator a few years ago. Shipp cannot write a simple sentence without a spelling error, and she could not pass the Praxis test to become a licensed special education teacher for years and years. She worked at IPS for year after year on a Limited/Emergency contract.

  32. YOU PEOPLE ARE HORRIBLE AND NOT A HELP TO THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. WHEN ALL OF YOU DO NOT HAVE A JOB IN IPS THEN MAYBE THIS BLOG WILL STOP. THE STATE NEEDS TO FIRE ALL IPS TEACHERS BECAUSE YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT CHILDREN! ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS GOSSIP AND KEEPING UP MESS. THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THERE WILL BE NO IPS!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Above...get a life...problem with the "mess" is it never gets cleared up...dingbat.

Moving the dirt from one room to another is NOT cleaning house!! And what in the world did White's son do to deserve a $14,000 raise? This is ridiculous!!!!

  36. @Moving the dirt from one room to another is NOT cleaning house!! And what in the world did White's son do to deserve a $14,000 raise? This is ridiculous!!!!
    ________________________________________________

IPS moves around administrators every year like kids playing musical chairs. Does the School Board decide to do this, or is this Dr. White's decision? What is the rationale for this annual moving of principals and other administrators? Is this supposed to help students learn more? Does IPS ever hire an administrator who is from outside our district? Is it possible IPS might need some fresh ideas, some new administrators occasionally?

As far as Dr. White's son, Reggie, we have no idea if he's the most qualified person for the job. He might be for all we know; however, the larger issue is that his fast-paced ascent up the administrative ladder in IPS, where his father is the Superintendent, lends the appearance of favoritism. Reggie must occasionally feel uncomfortable around his co-workers with his rapid advancement in the system. Ultimately, his father evaluates him, whether directly or indirectly through another person who still works for Dr. White. It's just a blatantly arrogant situation for Dr. White to continue advancing his son up the administrative ladder. This type situation is fairly common in family owned businesses; however, in the public sector, it is not a good practice.

  37. Re: Moving the dirt from one room to another is NOT cleaning house!!

No no no no no. You're interpreting this incorrectly.

Being Big Gene's son, Reggie has received TONS of dirt cast upon him, some justified, some not. As this dirt pile increases in depth, he simply steps up. Isn't that the directions from the head jack-ass last August?

Reggie's pile just allows him to reach higher into the money tree of IPS administration.

  38. "YOU PEOPLE ARE HORRIBLE!"

    Dear Poster,

Universally, typists who use all caps do so to cover their lack of knowledge as to the proper usage of capital letters.

Caps should be used at the beginning of sentences and quotations, on the first and important words of a title, on proper nouns such as books, magazines, newspapers, on names of streets, cities, states, counties and countries, and the names of people and their titles. These rules are part of third-grade curriculum.

In computer-speak, all caps are the equivalent of screaming. As with a verbal scream, readers check for the need of assistance, then shake heads and ignore the message, the same way one reacts to a shrieking car alarm.

The caps lock key is located on the left side of your computer's keypad, next to the letter "A". Your keyboard probably has an indicator that is lit when this key is cativated. It can be disabled by pressing the caps lock key again.

    ReplyDelete
  39. cativated

    Sorry. activated.

  40. Wow. Really, really scary.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Who owns the church...sounds like another way to funnel money to some friend of a board member or Dr. White.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You are correct. The ignorant all caps poster above should learn computer courtesy or quit screaming at us.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Kris Guess, unlike Greg Allen is still around.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yep, Kris Guess is still around, but where? Stuck in an alternative school where she's paid as a department head. Like another poster wrote, being moved from a large high school to an alternative school is the "kiss of death" for administrators. Getting them outta of the public spotlight is what the Board did.......

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Moving the dirt from one room to another is NOT cleaning house!!
At this point PLEASE just shuffle our principal at #74 somewhere else. It's the IPS way so PLEASE move him! He is an incompetent liar and Phyllis Barnes has done nothing to help him improve. How many times can an administrator get written up? What a joke!

  47. Dear School Improvement Lady,

Please return to our crazy, out-of-control elementary school. The problems on the second floor aren't getting any better. Three students out of two particular classrooms were identified as problems, and were sent to the ISS room for an ENTIRE afternoon. Wow. You should consider seeking the opinions of more staff members.

  48. @Dear School Improvement Lady

We will need a little more info and detail. There are lots of problems out there in the elementary schools.
