Sweep of Tech students’ cars nets swords
Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS — Three students at Arsenal Technical High School are in trouble for inappropriate conduct.
Indianapolis police on today inspected all students’ cars parked on campus for weapons. The sweep was prompted by recent discoveries of guns in city schools.
Two Arsenal Tech students were arrested Tuesday for bringing a gun on campus.
Police say they found no guns but did find two swords in the trunk of one car. They also found a military-style utility knife and steak knives.
Officers arrested three Arsenal Tech students, an 18-year-old and two 17-year-olds. All are facing preliminary misdemeanor charges of possession of a knife on school property.
Police Chief Steve Garner tells WISH (Channel 8) that the search was legal.
Sadly, Arsenal Tech is living up to its name.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why the students feel they have to have a weapon. Could it be the campus isn't safe? Metal detectors should be in ALL school...elementary included.
ReplyDeleteOur secondary school are not secure. I could get into any high school at any time during the school day if I wanted to. Just hang around an outside door, peck on the window, and a student will let you in. Actually there is probably more danger lurking within our buildings than outside our buildings. Who knows how many guns or knives are in student lockers? Maybe it is the time for all who enter our high schools to pass through metal detectors. Better safe than sorry.
ReplyDeleteHow would metal detectors find these knives and swords in students' cars?
ReplyDeleteDoes Tech have a fencing team?
ReplyDeletemaybe the kind of fencing they need is the barbed wire with concerta wire at the top (?)(whatever that stuff is called at the top of the fence by the women's prison) - how sad!

ReplyDeleteThen all of the Broad Ripple "outstanding students" were released to Tech. I am amazed at the poor quality of administrators, who hired Sara and Sertic? Both have colorful backgrounds that are would never pass with another school system.
ReplyDeleteI think that some of those poor BRHS students who were "outstanding" were left "standing out" (in the cold) because they didn't have a chance to remain at BRHS. What a shame for kids to have to leave in their senior year when they have been at BRHS all along. Oh, yes they were "grandfathered" in but had to be able to pass the humanities magnet courses. BRHS will not need many SpEd teachers or ESL at the rate those kids are struggling to hang on...
ReplyDeleteDistrict mandates and provisions set our children up for failure.
ReplyDelete"concertina" - thanks! Guess I was thinking of the
ReplyDeletedrug! LOL
About the BRHS comment: Anyone who believes for one minute that Broad Ripple is going to be allowed to dump all their Spec. ed. and mischievious/low achievers at Tech is living in LaLa Land. I would be willing to bet they are going to make allowances for the special ed. students. Just wait, you'll hear it. As far as the others, just this week a student told me he was suppose to be reassigned. He has been called to the principal's office twice to be asked if he wanted to stay at Broad Ripple. He finally told her " No, he wanted to go back to Harshman." So he was suspended to have another day to think about it. He said he wanted to go, so he should be gone!
ReplyDeleteLast I heard we are a public educational system. Any student with "special needs" must have access to all schools, even magnets.
ReplyDeleteYep! Anyone ever hear of the Notch Johnson "School for Orphans and Retards?"
ReplyDeleteI find the above post really disheartening...in a day and age when we are finally beginning to realize that our words do matter, it is difficult to imagine that a teacher would use the word "retard". Ever hear of the "School for Backward Teachers?"
ReplyDeleteIt was a parody, dumb ass.
ReplyDeletePosting something ugly and hateful and then calling it a pardoy doesn't make it any less ugly and hateful. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence is able make a joke without resorting to slurs.
ReplyDeleteWould you write a parody using the "n" word? I agree with the above poster; humor that hurts is never humorous...come on; a simple apology would go a long way....
