Ain't That A B*****!!!

Although IPS is $33 million in the hole, the District is going to go ahead and give pay raises to its top administrators.

  1. I agree, this is total bull. i will be there tomorrow. I have sent emails to the board asking them NOT to approve this.. Do teachers get raises when they get additional students in larger classrooms? Nope.

  2. I will admit that I'm one of the people who has posted how petty it is to bitch about administration nonstop. But this is absolute B.S. The freaking audacity of expecting teachers to accept salary freezes and increased workloads because of budget cuts but then giving administrators raises! Shameful!

  3. I read the story and saw that Eugene White believes IPS should pay administrators competitive salaries. Question -- competitive with whom?

Demand drives competition. Does he honestly think that Greenwood, Shipp, Harrell, and Farrell are in demand from other districts? Other districts are not hiring anyone, and they're certainly not looking for overpaid IPS administrators to join their ranks.

Jackie Greenwood is not threatening to 'move on' if she doesn't get a raise, now is she? Heck no, we all know that no one else would even interview her. Who, in the entire Midwest education community, would be competing for the services of Cassandra Shipp? No one; some districts might even pay a stipend to have her leave. Joan Harrell is in demand from HSE, Carmel, Washington Township? Not likely. Is the private sector attempting to lure Erin Farrell? Maybe Lilly needs her to manage their HR, you think? Nope again.

Our IPS School Board is taking counsel from the Devil. Wake up, School Board! We cannot afford to hand out salary increases or create new positions in thinly veiled attempts to justify paying cronies more and more money. School Board, you can no longer fool the taxpayers, the teachers, and the classified staff.

  4. At the Board meeting Tuesday night, there is NO scheduled time for public comment!

Taxpayers, what are your feelings about that?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Taxpayers and all others should've signed up to speak at last week's meeting when this issue was discussed.

    ReplyDelete
  6. "Signed up to speak at last week's meeting"? So you expect the average taxpayer to review the School Board's agenda, have an understanding of the pay issue and then submit a written statement to Mary Louise? I'm assuming you're just frustrated and PO'd about the way this Administration operates. Right on to that. Taxpayers can still make noise at the 2/2 meeting.
It is time to be heard.

  7. If you give a goddamn about IPS, then yes, You would follow IPS public meetings, including Board Meetings.

Again, YOU show that you are not an IPS employee. How transparent. Poseur.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I am not an IPS employee. I am a taxpayer who reads this blog.

These pay raises are indefensible, inexcusable.

If we see this issue covered at all in The Indianapolis Star, I will be surprised. Its coverage of IPS is terrible. But at least one TV news media outlet is bringing these raises to the attention of the general public.

  9. The minutes for the meeting last week were "amended" the day of the nmeeting. This tactic is used frequently. The minutes are poseted a few days before a meeting and changed late in the day the day of the meeting.

  10. Franklin Township had 250 angry taxpayers turn out for their recent board meeting. They told the board that they were not going to stand for the cuts being proposed. White knows that IPS taxpayers and parents will not put up much of a fuss. If they care they will be down there at the board meeting demanding good stewardship of their monies. But that won't happen, so business as usual continues. When parents got angry enough to show up and protest past policy changes, White listened and pulled the ideas off the table. This is why student achievement is so low in the district. Way too many parents are uninformed, uninvolved, and unwilling to step up and take control of their children's education. Let's see how many people turn out for tonight's meeting. I hope it's on TV.

  11. Dr. White draws a poor analogy when he compares his decisions for IPS with Coach Jim Caldwell's decisions for the Colts. Eugene White is not Jim Caldwell. IPS is not on top of its game like the Colts.

Dr. White will play the 'what-are-you-insinuating card' if this debate progresses at tonight's Board meeting. Good leadership decisions do not rely on such self-serving defensiveness.

Public perception and public confidence, neither of which the current cozy atmosphere in IPS promotes, are often more important than reality. The public perceives IPS as a money pit; the reality unfortunately matches the perception.

  12. There will be no public comment at the meeting? Of course not because they know that it's crap.

  13. This is disgusting.

Greenwood should have retired years ago. She has bullied her way through IPS for years, and Harrell is nothing more than Johnson's flunky. She is as dumb as a rock, and gossips her way through the district. Both of them should have retired years ago, yet they remain to collect fat paychecks and bless us all with their useless selves.

  14. Listed below is what a person needs to do to speak at the bi-monthly meeting. It is no surprise that the process is not the easiest. Unfortunately it is not reasonable to think that the average IPS parent has the time to wade through the red tape in order to make a simple statement to the Board. This is deliberate. If the Super/Board desired to hear the thoughts of the parents and/or the taxpayer then this process would be simplified.

Some poster claims I am a poseur; You are wholly incorrect as I have never claimed to be an IPS employee. Not sure how the term g**damn enhances your point but your anger is misdirected.

You must call the Board office to register. We will require name, address, telephone
number, who you are representing, topic and your affiliation with IPS. Each registered
speaker has a 3-minute timed limit. We ask that you bring one copy of what you are going
to say for the Minute Book, a total of 10 copies if you want the Board and Superintendent
    to have it.

The next opportunity to speak is at the Board Briefing Session on Tuesday, which means you have to register by 4:45 on Monday.

  15. You can always email the board members. I am not sure if they read their email but we should bombard them.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ok, so who will attend the board meeting? It's not too late. Bring sign preotesting this, and even if they vote it though (which the 4 will) the media will be there and will see that the public does'n't support this.
I will be the only one if i need to be, but come on, someone lese needs to do this as well.

  17. 30,000 in raises diveded by 60 schools = $500.00.

How nice would it be to get a $500.00 check every year to spend as you see fit. New books, field trips, sheet music, special programs, celebrations, and so on.....

  18. Hey, there's an article in Education Week identifying the 5 keys to urban school success.

    http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2010/01/27/19ccsr.h29.html?tkn=TNZFOo3eeJNWSzI7ukN4TdKwJNAsy0%2FfkGdK

    • Strong leadership, in the sense that principals are “strategic, focused on instruction, and inclusive of others in their work”;

    • A welcoming attitude toward parents, and formation of connections with the community;

    • Development of professional capacity, which refers to the quality of the teaching staff, teachers’ belief that schools can change, and participation in good professional development and collaborative work;

    • A learning climate that is safe, welcoming, stimulating, and nurturing to all students; and

    • Strong instructional guidance and materials.

What do you think? I think our weak leadership is obvious, but I think IPS is mediocre at best in all of these areas.

  19. Added to the Board Agenda on January 19 under New Business is the recommendation to increase Dr. White's contract. Read below:
    ____________________________________________
    RESOLUTION NO. 7570- JANUARY, 2010
    AMENDMENT TO THE SUPERINTENDENT'S CONTRACT
WHEREAS, the Board of School Commissioners previously has conducted an evaluation of the performance of Dr. Eugene G. White as Superintendent of the Indianapolis public Schools; and
WHEREAS, Dr. White has declined any increases in his salary or benefits for the past three (3) years; and
WHEREAS, all other IPS employee groups now have received salary and benefit increases for those time periods; and
WHEREAS, improving graduation rates at IPS is critical to the success of the District; and
    WHEREAS, Dr. White's contract already includes a performance based component, but does not presently include graduation rates as part of the criteria for the performance bonus;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of School Commissioners, That:
    (a) Dr. White be granted the same salary increase as other employees for school years 2007-2008, 2008-2009, 2009-2010 and the same one-time contribution to his 403(b) retirement account as other employees; and
    (b) beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, Dr. White be eligible for an annual performance based payment of $2,500 if IPS graduation rates improve by at least 2% from the prior year and a performance based payment of $5,000 if IPS graduation rates improve by at least 4% from the prior year.
The Board attorney is hereby directed to incorporate the changes to the employment contract into a written addendum to be executed by Dr. White and the Board, by its President and Executive Secretary, and made a part of the contract document.

Jeffery White Erykah: I sincerely miss John Marshall and the community. We has a great thing going and the students, teachers, and community had become proud of the improvements. I had to leave to prove a point to a few enethical IPS Central Office administrators. As you are probably are aware. some people think they know everything. Moreover, the older ... See Morethey get, the dumber they become. I'm sorry for the bad things the school stakeholders have experienced. However, I assure you your pain won't be in vain. I want to be the next superintendent of IPS and rebuild John Marshall and other low performing schools within IPS. We will use the JM model as a Mode of Change.

    ReplyDelete
  29. So I'm "wholly" incorrect that the blogmeister is a "poseur." Yes, you are. But thanks for finally acknowledging that you are a so-called IPS taxpayer (which I also doubt, and not a teacher.

  30. Come to the next Board Meeting and identify yourself. You haven't the courage.

Doubt what you will. I have 7 large going to property taxes each and every year. Come to the 2/2/10 Board Meeting ane we will see. Put up.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Finally, the general public is starting to realize that Eugene White has messed up priorities and board members like Mary Busch and Michael Brown need to be replaced. IPS is becoming a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 2/16 is the next opportunity for the public to speak to the Board

    ReplyDelete
  33. I logged on the read the board minutes from the last meeting and it was changed the day after.
    what does this mean?

  34. So who is Elizabeth Gore?...What is the "poseur" thing all about? What is a slap in the face? What are "7 large going to property tax?"...

Who's on first? No...who's on second!

y'all have messed with my mind!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Elizabeth Gore is an IPS School Board member. 'Poseur' refers to an imposter, (i.e., someone believes the blog master is an imposter - not an IPS teacher). 'Slap in the face' likely refers to Jeff White's being released from his job as an IPS principal. The '7 large going to property tax' refers to the amount of property tax this person is paying for their property which lies in the IPS district boundary -- $7000.00 per year in property tax.

As my spouse would tell you, I know damned near everything. :)

  36. I heard that Brown stole food when he was in a school building some years ago. Is that true? Please don't tell me he is one of those "holier than thou" minister.

  37. LOL at the poseur suggesting a meeting at the next school board meeting. Your a sock, an anonymous troll. Will you wear a sign saying "poseur?"How else am I to know it's you? LOL!

  38. Why was a section of the personnel report pulled after the board meeting? I thought the personnel report passed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why is it permissable to remove these items from the board report AFTER having been voted on? Especially items involving substantial salary increases for a few administrators?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I hope someone saved copies of what the proposed salaries would be. Eugene thinks he can deceive the public but something tells me he is starting to meet the end of the line. Bye, Bye, Eugene.

  41. Does anyone know if IPS still owns the house in Golden Hills? Does Dr. White live there?

    ReplyDelete
  42. someone should ask Kelly Bently why the personnal info was removed from the minutes.Surely a teacher has some contact with her personally.
What is the reason the recommendation were removed from public record?????

  46. I think it's gagyi.

    ReplyDelete
  47. yeah...that is strange that the info regarding the change of assignments for those administrators was taken off...anyone have any clue as to what happened?

interesting that Dr.W. said he wasn't in this "for the money"...then why would he care how his salary compared with other superintendents..

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hummm...I must have misread that article. I thought it said WHITE only made 188,000. I was thinking he made like 242,000...maybe that it with perks. However, either amount is too much for the job he is doing-and then to add another 3%!!! Rasing administrator's pay in this economy is NUTS. Most corporations are talking about cutting admin. pay. Let's see Mitch and Tony do something about this craziness!!

  49. I believe that the Ed Center should be renamed Tammany Hall.

  50. How about renaming the Ed. Center after the Looney Tunes Cartoon, since our commander and chief sounds like Slyvester the (lisping)cat............I think I saw a Putty cat! LMAO

  51. I really think as teachers that it is very wrong for us to make comments about anyone's speech issues just as it would be to make fun of a leader who had any other physical disability. I think that says something about our acceptance of students with disabilities. Criticize his decisions, his actions, style of management but so don't be so petty as to criticize something he probably can do nothing about at this late date.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I do think we need to reduce overcrowding in school buildings, however, and I think we should start with the Ed. Center and Forest Manor....
