Big Loss

Anyone who wants reform in IPS needs to step up to the plate. Kelly Bentley and Mike Cohen are not running for re-election. They would always ask tough questions and not kiss Dr. White's butt. Who's going to step up to the plate?

  1. This made me very sad when I read it in the paper this morning. The only two with guts to ask questions and not just be a rubber-stamp. In the words of Ed Grimley ( Martin Short)
" We're doomed as doom can be, ya know."

    ReplyDelete
  2. Well since the blogmaster and so many teachers are so highly opinionated and clearly despise the workings of IPS, why don't any of you step up? Instead of blowing out hot air here, make a difference.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Jeff White!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Employees of the system are not allowed to be on the board.

    ReplyDelete
  5. We cannot be on the Board. Conflict of interest.
Although, I am not sure how much more conflicting the ways of the Board could be.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Step up, IPS parents. Please!
Contrary to popular belief, we do have parents out there who are hard-working, and want nothing but the best for their children. We need those parents to be heard.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I bet this news will make our CEO stay.

    ReplyDelete
  8. We must not only recruit two good candidates but we must also defeat Michael Brown who is a cheerleader for Eugene and uses his position to enable his family members.

    ReplyDelete
  9. As a parent of four children in our district. I would love to run.

Unfortuntely, I am also a educator (lower than dirt) in our district as well. They know I cannot run.

Must be why transportation, principals, and other administrators in our district ignore wrongs done to my children.

That is until, I start asking them if taking a copy of policy and a report of what is actually being done to the newspaper is in order.

I for one just for my kids sake would love to be up there questioning and making Dr. White answer questions and make things public. IPS employees should be allowed to run if they have children of their own in the district.

I though for now am backing Annie Dearth who is running. Have talked with her and she does not seem afraid to ask questions. She is a parent not a political person. So, I just hope she does not get swollowed up by the sharks. Right now she has my vote though for the at large seat.

  10. IPS needs to have an appointed school board. The elected board concept has not worked.

Also, Indianapolis Star, do your job!!!!!!!!!!!!
    You're a bunch of pansies.

    ReplyDelete
  11. How long has Mary Busch been on the board? Decades? And why does she stay?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Mary Busch needs to go but will stay until community realizes that she is part of the problem. Get rid of Mary!!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Jeff White lives in the IPS district. He is not afraid to ask hard questions and is well known in the community.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mary Busch graduated from high school in 1953. Evidently she's around 70 or 71 years old. We all age; however, we also should be cognizant that when we've had a 'good run' that it's time to step aside and allow up and coming folks the opportunity to serve.

  15. One of a school board's most important duties is to strictly monitor the Superintendent's in-office time. Eugene White negotiated almost total Carte Blanche approval for anything he wants to do before he agreed to take the job. I honestly can't blame him for asking, because the job was so formidable. But shame on any school board for agreeing so completely. They rolled over and played dead out of the shute, so...he has their tacit pre-approval for anything he wants to do.

The board's primary responsibility is to hire and monitor a Super. They must also be strict fiduciary stewards of the district's assets. On that count, the IPS board has failed for a long, long time, going back to the time Lugar was on it.

Gene White's mission was never more than a mop-up job. He's done a D-plus to C-minus job. His board fails on all counts.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think Eugene gets an F because he has made things worse not better.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Dr. White is a hypocrite. We have a hiring freeze, but then Dr. White brings in his boys from the outside and creates jobs for them. He then gives $10,000 raises (or more) to upper administration, then tells us that there is no money for teacher raises.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Annie Roof has stood up to Dr. White on numerous occasions as an advocate for parents. She will be an advocate for teachers and can be trusted to do what is right for our children.

    ReplyDelete
  19. How about Eugene hiring a senior citizen guy to do nothing but coach boys basketball at Broad Ripple High School and paying him over $100,000 a year?

The coach at Division II college basketball powerhouse University of Southern Indiana makes in the $80,000 range.

Most high school coaches in this state must also have full-time teaching responsibilities and make about $50-$60-$70K (or less).

Explain that $100,000-plus basketball coach salary to we taxpayers, Gene. We really want to know.

These kinds of illogical and wasteful decisions by the IPS Administration go unnoticed and unmentioned by the local news media and the school board.

The local news media - especially The Star - must get some really nice Christmas gifts from the IPS administration every year.

Otherwise, why are they such suck-ups to this administration?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Let's not forget how we changed the nepotism policy so that we could hire Dr. White's son during a hiring freeze!!!
And what does his son do?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Vote for Annie Roof.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have started an education forum and would welcome visitors. It is not intended to compete with IPS-BS, which admittedly has its own niche. But many of this site's readers might also enjoy www.indyeducationforum.com which is intended to offer broader topics for discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  23. My son-our first born just started in public schools. I have known Annie (Dearth) Roof all my life. Having her on the school board would give me great peace of mind. And I have never seen a "shark" come up against her that didn't turn tail and run the other way. She has my FULL support!

    ReplyDelete
  24. How about the "Compliance Monitors" who get paid close to 100K to walk around our school buildings (inside and out) and note things such as, "weed growing from bush in front of building" or "water pressure is low". I want to get paid that much to walk around a building and do nothing but spread negativity. Positive thinking should come first along with our children coming first.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I too am sad to see Bentley and Cohen go. Thanks for your hard work and dedication.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I worked at John Marshall. The hell with Jeffrey White running for School Board. We need to pay off Gene White and have Jeffrey White come back to IPS to take over Tech High School or remove a majority of Central Office by being superintendent. The black, white, and business community will back him up.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I totally agree with the comment posted above!

    ReplyDelete
  28. ,,,,but Prudence Bridgewaters doesn't like Jeff White...what would we do with her?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree with above comment about Jeff White. I worked with him at Marshall too. He would be a great leader at Tech or any other school in IPS. The disturbing thing is that they let him go in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jeff White got too much attention, and did not give accolades to Central Office. Dr. White and company did not like that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jeffrey White would get more accomplished as a School Board member than being an IPS employee. He would have far greater impact as a Board member.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jeffrey White can be an asshole. He hates to compromise and he has an ego out of this world. That is just what central office needs to confront. An asshole with the backing of the community and out to prove a point.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Amen to above post! He is charismatic, the community really likes him, and he has the chutzpah to confront Eugene.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You can spend all the time in the world talking about how great Jeffrey White would be, and he probably would be, but if he isn't running it doesn't matter. Learn about the candidates running, and support one (or two) of them.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Isn't there a way to set this blog up so that the more recent posts are at the top by date... takes too much time to scroll through the list to see the latest postings each time

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's what I asked a long time ago, and never got an answer.

    ReplyDelete
  37. As a former Teacher at John Marshall Middle School, Mr. White can be pretty demanding of the students and teachers. Yes, he is an asshole but for the right reasons. The primary reason Mr. White clashed so much with Central Office was because he would make them look stupid. If he comes back to IPS, it will be as Principal of Tech High School or the next Superintendent. The asshole gots talent..

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jeff White was allowed to resign fom IPS for a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes. The reason is he went against the admin. becuase they were worried about being sued by the Urban League for too many suspensions of African Americans. He put his foot down when a kid brought drugs to school and insisted he was not coming back to JMCHS. That act was "insubordinate". This was discussed on Indiana Barrister and his "reprimand" was even taped. Frankly, this is the kind of leader we need. And YES! He can be hard and very demanding. Wouldn't you want that in a school? A hard man to work for but also empowering and focused on the job of educating kids. Why so many have an issue with this is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. IPS Central Office tried to "break" Jeffrey White. In May of 2008, he let a group of JM teachers hear a recorded conversation with Jane Kendricks and Prudence Bridgewaters. They told him if he contacted Dr. White about their plans of restructing the school, they would try to get him fired for insubordination. Thats why I say Jeffrey White is holding out for a reason. The conversation on Indiana Barrister is a teaser compared to what stuff he is holding on to. If Dr. White thinks Jeffrey is an asshole now, wait until the other tapes come out. Dr. White trusted two fools that ran Arlington and John Marshall into a grave.

    ReplyDelete
  41. People, people, people. Jeffrey White is not coming back to IPS for several reasons.

    (1) Dr. White would have to eat crow. Nope!!Biggest ego in Marion County.
    (2) Jeffrey would have to humble himself. Not going to happen.. Second biggest ego in Marion County.
    (3) The black community would throw a fit if they put him at another school besides John Marshall. Sorry for telling the truth..
    (4) The white community would be mad at Jeffrey White because they want IPS to be split up. The facts are the facts..

You can dream all you want but sadly the good guy is not going to be allowed back in. Too many bad people with power would die if that happened.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Visited John Marshall the other day...it really is quiet in the hallways and the kids seemed to be on task in the classrooms....although many of the classes were really, really small...such a huge building for so few kids. Must cost a mint to heat and service that place.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree with the last two post. The good guy lost and I also had to attend professional development at John Marshall. It has to cost a truckload of money to heat the building. It is either time to call Jeffrey back in or close the building.

    ReplyDelete
  44. What a waste of time talking about what can't happen. Focus on what can.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Why wouldn't a building designed for 2500 that only has 400+ students seem quiet? The real question is why does the school board allow that huge waste of money?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Forget about Jeff White being an IPS employee again.

Jeff White should consider seriously tossing his hat into the ring for an IPS Board spot. His skills set is suited ideally for the IPS School Board.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes, the good guy lost. I'm currently employed as an Assistant Principal within IPS. Two years ago, educators were begging to go work for Mr. White at JMMS. However, his status as being a tranformational leader and community advocate made those within the higher ranks very jealous. Dr. Eugene White and Dr. Jane Kendricks were so jealous they tried to silence his movement by making him ask for permission to speak to the press. Here is the funny part. He was the only Principa required to ask for permission. Dr. White wanted Jeffrey White's message to be centered around the district, not just John Marshall Forwarding to 2010, we find ourselves without a true sign of hope. Beginning next school year, Dr. Jackie Greenwood will be our new leader. Jane Kendricks head to HR in shock and Prudence Bridgwaters has to work for Dr. Greenwood. Keep in mind that Prudence was Jackie's boss for two months. With sadness, leadership within IPS has sold out to fear, failure, and compromise. I commend Jeffrey White for standing up to the powers within IPS. However, I'm mad as hell at Jeffrey White because the students and eastside community is in disarray because he is gone. Sorry for the long comment but I had to let it out.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thanks for above comment!

    ReplyDelete
  49. What is Jackie Greenwood going to lead?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Dr. Greenwood will be in charge of all Middle Schools and High Schools within IPS. Lets add fuel the fire. I work at Arlington Community High School. Dr. White is moving Dexter Suggs to Central Office. There have been five principals at Arlington within the last two years.

Jackie Greewood, Greg Allen, Steve Papesh, Dexter Suggs, and Cassandra Shipp. Dr. Suggs by far was the worst of the bunch and he gets moved to central office. Connections, connections, connections.

My question to educators. Would Perry Township, Warren Township and Franklin Township educators and parents like the superintendent have that many principal in such a small timeframe???? Forget about John Marshall and its current failures. Arlington is clinging to life.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Cassandra Shipp is slated to be the Arlington principal??? Oh, my God! She's dumb as a box of rocks and can't tell the difference between the correct spelling of sirloin and sewer line.

She taught special education on a limited (year to year) emergency license for over 8 years simply because she was unable to pass the Praxis.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yep.. Thats her!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. What will Dexter Suggs' new title/job be at the Ed Center? When will this change occur?

By the way, Dr. White will need to have a 504 Plan written for Shipp so that she can have a 'scribe' for her written communication.

    ReplyDelete
  54. If Jeffrey White decides to run for an IPS School Board opening, he will win.

I don't know Annie Roof, but from what I read and hear, she's a winner as well!

    Go Annie! Go Jeffrey!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Run, Annie, run!

    Run, Jeff, run!

    ReplyDelete
  56. isn't the board Eugene's supervisor?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yes, the Superintendent is 'supposed' to answer to the Board. The Board evaluates his performance.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Marshall isn't the only school with few kids. It needs to be shut down. I understand Shortridge is hurting for kids too. I think it is interesting that the principal there continues to want black teachers only.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Shortride has only a little over 400 also. Northwest has somewhere around 800. How can anyone in his/her right mind justify keeping these buildings open especially since IPS is almost broke?

    ReplyDelete
  60. You can find out more about Annie Roof here...
    www.annieforschoolboard.com

    ReplyDelete
  61. Dr. White has been active in "sending old teachers home". He needs to look in the mirror with J. Greenwood,P. Bridgewaters.and Mary Bush and then carry their bags to their cars.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Jeff White's being selected to the elite "Forty Under 40" by the Indianapolis Business Journal elevated young White into prime time media, and Eugene White reacted poorly.

Forty under 40: Jeffrey C. White

    Publication: Indianapolis Business Journal
    Date: Monday, February 2 2009

    JEFFREY C. WHITE, 39

    Principal

    John Marshall Community High School

"Our students haven't been acclimated to the advanced placement and honors track. We're working to change the mindset of the students so that it is their norm," said Jeffrey C. White of his job as principal of John Marshall Community High School.

White is in his third year as principal of the school, which is located in a low-income and high-crime area on the city's east side.

When he started in 2006, the school had poor performance, a lack of resources and parental involvement, and too few programs and necessities. White has worked to transform the school. When he couldn't get the resources through the educational system, he formed a Strategic Community Action Plan that has raised more than $900,000 from the business community. The school was recently awarded a $600,000 grant from the Lumina Foundation.

"I got into this out of sheer luck," White said. "I had the opportunity to fill in for someone at Clark Elementary School in Paducah, Ky., and that started my career."

White, who is from Madisonville, Ky., worked as a teacher, youth coordinator and assistant to the principal in Paducah before coming to Indianapolis in 1999. He earned a bachelor's degree in public relations and a master's degree in organizational communications from Murray State University in Murray, Ky. White earned a master's degree in secondary education from Indiana University and is completing a doctorate in educational leadership there. He holds multiple licenses, including a superintendent's license.

"The best thing that ever happened to me in my career was taking the assistant principal's job."

    ReplyDelete
  63. Can we impeach Mary Busch? She is completely under the spell of Eugene White. She is afraid of him and won't question anything he does. At her age, she has lost the will to fight.

    ReplyDelete
  64. "I understand Shortridge is hurting for kids too. I think it is interesting that the principal there continues to want black teachers only."

    Why?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Cosby couldn't want black teachers only. I interviewed along with several of my friends and he did not hire any of us!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Does anybody really know what it means if the state takes over? Will there be a school board? Are there rules or will Supt. Bennett be playing it by ear?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Cosby (Shortridge) is full of himself. I don't agree that he only wants teachers who are black, but he does not present himself well and he acts like he doesn't have time to be bothered by anybody/anything.
Dexter Suggs. That man is worthless. Arlington is out of control and he does nothing to help it. I wonder who he is giving favors to in order to be transferred to the Education Center.
Manuel is another school without a full student population. The students that do show up to class are much better behaved than most schools, but I had one class in which only one student showed up once.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The principal of one of those schools mentioned above has repeatedly stated that White women cannot teach Black males. This statement goes unchallenged by anyone on the board or in the central admistration.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I read your blog with interest.

In order to obtain salary information on any public school’s administration staff and other school employees, you may file a Public Access request with the Superintendent for a copy of Personnel Report, Form 100-R, “Report of Names and Compensation of Officers and Employees.” This report is required to be filed by January 31st each year with the State Board of Accounts.

Let me know and I will forward a copy of IC 5-11-13.

Some members of the community post this report on a blog for public access and let folks decide for themselves about its relevance. Everyone talks about “transparency” these days; but, few walk that talk.

I agree with your observations on Kelly Bentley. We first met several years ago, when I was President of Butler-Tarkington. As an elected member of the Washington Township School Board, I can relate to her situation, I respect her decision not to run for re-election. However, like many of you, I will miss her honest comments on difficult issues.

    Warmest regards,

    Greg Wright, Elected Member
    Board of Education
    MSD Washington Township
Greg Wright is one of five school
    board members. Therefore, this
    correspondence may not reflect the
Board as a whole, and should not
    be considered an official Board
    position.

    ReplyDelete
  70. "The principal of one of those schools mentioned above has repeatedly stated that White women cannot teach Black males."
    ================================

I am not a teacher nor an administrator. I am a taxpayer.

If the above comment is true, then that principal should be reprimanded and put on probation. That is racial stereotyping and should not be tolerated.

    ReplyDelete
  71. That principal would be Cosby. He's definitely into Afrocentrism.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don't believe there's a hiring freeze, but there's absolutely a big thaw in creating 'new' positions. Check out the 'modified' personnel recommendations for tonight's Board meeting.

Jackie Greenwood is recommended to progress from being Director of Secondary Ed ($109K) to becoming the Executive Director ($112). Now, it does not specify what she will become the Executive Director of, but rather that her new title is 'Executive Director'. Your guess is as good as mine concerning what or whom she'll direct.

Jane Ajabu's title is/was Chief of Human Resources. Well, that's not good enough. So, Jane Kendricks will become the Assistant Superintendent for HR and will earn $118K.

In order for Jane Kendricks to perform her job, Erin Farrell has been promoted to Director of HR and will see her salary jump from $90K to $97K.

Joan Harrell is getting a new title and a nice salary increase, also. She's going to become the 'Executive' Director of Elementary Education. So, that leaves plenty of room for someone to become the Director of Elementary Ed.

Don't try to tell anyone that money is not available in IPS!

IPS has become an 'employment factory' for Dr. White and cronies of his and the School Board.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm sure the person who accuses Cosby of being Afrocentric isn't the same person who has posted numerous comments on this blog criticizing and mocking the way black people dress, talk, their culture, as well as stereotypes about their parenting and lack of financial independence and accuses anyone with any cultural sensitivity of catering to "them." I'm a white female, and I think I have proven I can teach black males, but I admit I have worked with more than my share of racially insensitive teachers, and I don't blame any principal who raises this as a MAJOR concern for IPS.

    ReplyDelete
  74. This system is so top-heavy that it is in grave danger of tipping over in the future...

    ReplyDelete
  75. Many of those folks who have been promoted could not find jobs at those salaries anyplace else...

    ReplyDelete
  76. I do not believe that Greenwood, Kendricks, or Harrell would ever be invited for the 2nd round of interviews in any school district in any state. Greenwood applied several years ago for the principal's job at North Central. She was not called for an interview.

The IPS Board is not serious about upgrading our district! The Board is pathetic for allowing, even encouraging such needless promotions for people who have passed their prime.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Oh my God!!! And the School Board is voting on this tonight? What in the hell is going on??? Gov Daniels just stated that he is going to cut funding and Dr. White wants to increase their salaries???

    ReplyDelete
  78. I bet the farm that the IPS school Board will vote to give Gene White a raise plus all of the performance bonuses. This has got out of hand.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Kamona McDowell is into Afrocentrism too. White women can do nothing, according to her.

    ReplyDelete
  80. How could the IPS School Board think we need an Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources AND a Director of Human Resources? That's a sum total of $215K spent to run the personnel office for our school district! Both sickening and sinful. Corporate America does not spend that much for personnel. Does the Board think money is growing on trees in the inner city?

Little wonder that Mitch Daniels is asking for schools to cut their budgets.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Live on Channel 20 Comcast -the board meeting

    ReplyDelete
  82. I co-taught in a classroom with Cosby on two occasions. The entire time, he had his cellphone out and took several calls or texted. He had a pop handy as well. He continually looked at his watch and was clearly uninterested in being there. He puts off the vibe that he is better than everyone else in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  83. If you have ever watched any of these recent TV documentaries about the Ku Klux Klan and Neo-Nazis, most of their leaders say that are mainly interested in "white power." Translated: racism.

"Afrocentrism" comes from the same river and the same streams. Translated: racism.

Why can't we just have human being "centrism?"

The great Martin Luther King Jr. was not interested in Afrocentrism. He was interested in all human beings living together in peace and harmony.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Brandon is good friends with Jane Kendricks. Moreover, Brandon was married to an obese, freckle face, lilly white women. Louis Farrakhan would be proud of him.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Cain Hope Felder, a Professor of New Testament Language and Literature at Howard University and a strong supporter of Afrocentric ideas, has cautioned Afrocentrists to avoid certain pitfalls including:

Demonizing categorically all white people, without careful differentiation between persons of goodwill and those who consciously perpetuate racism.

Adopting multiculturalism as a curricular alternative that eliminates, marginalizes, or vilifies European heritage to the point that Europe epitomizes all the evil in the world.

Grossly over-generalizing and using factually or incorrect material to rewrite history.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Cain Hope Felder sounds like a wise educator.

You don't judge a man or woman by their race; you judge them by the content of their character, heart and soul.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Jeff White would be a good school board member and get some progress happening but he is too scared to run. He does not like to fail and Eugene would bring out all of his allies to oppose Jeff White.

    ReplyDelete
  88. What about Leroy Robinson? What are his chances?

    ReplyDelete
  89. What about the guy who stood up at the meeting with Dr. White at BRHS, and challenged him on the hiring of two "coaches" one in a made up position of middle school activity director and the other an un-needed pe teacher, then mentioned that same money would have given every kid in the school a lap top with a three year service contract. That guy can think out side the box.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Jeff White, it's time to speak up, child of the South! Union County is counting on you. Phyllis Russell and her relatives are there for you. The Judge Tom Russell is there for you, also. We are waiting for you to toss your hat into the ring for an IPS School Board position.

    ReplyDelete
  91. For Jeffrey White: Wait it out. With the information that is coming out about Eugene White, you will be back in IPS and the Principal of Tech High School or IPS Superintendent. The kids who you stood up for will vote you in. School Board is too small for you.

    ReplyDelete
  92. What is the info on Eugene White and when will it be made public? There are so many areas of rumor but rumors can not always be believed. If there is a problem then the public needs to know. What was the real reason he left Washington Township?

    ReplyDelete
  93. We have supervisors at many levels who work all summer when there is nothing to supervise - this was told to me by a supervisor who felt it was wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Both Eugene White and Jeffrey White have egos out of the world. If the black preachers would intervene and set both of them down, the students and community would benefit. Dr. White is an old guy with a group of old women that are standing my their man. Whereas Jeffrey White is a young guy that refuses to learn from the only man that had the guts to try to control him. It didn't work but I commend Dr. White for trying. Both continue to fight and the students continue to suffer. As a black women, I can say "Black men need to learn how to go along." Don't let Prudence Bridgwaters come between you two.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I am an Arlington gradutate, current IPS parent and former Central Office employee who is definitely interested in running for the School Board. I completed my research and learned that I live in District 2 (Mary Busch). Her current term ends in 2012. I am currently preparing for a strong campaign.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I would love to see someone get rid of Mary Busch.

    ReplyDelete
  97. "I am currently preparing for a strong campaign."

As a taxpayer and not a teacher nor an administrator:

Thank you for your desire to serve the needs of the students of IPS and not the financial interests of a select group of heavily bankrolled administrators in IPS.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Mary Busch is past her prime. It's always sad to see a formerly vibrant person keep on staying in a position past the point of where they're effective. People should step down while they're at their peak. Then they'll be remembered as great.

Dean Kelly at Tech is another example. He's a fine man, but he's 83 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Who was Dr. White referring to when he said that he had explain to some pseudo-intellectuals why his administrators desired higher pay and his teachers didn't?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Roy Schroeder, who spoke up at the Board meeting last night regarding issues such as the hiring of a M.S. activities director at BR when there is no money for M.S. activities, is also a candidate or so I have been told. He is articulate, intelligent and definitely not a "yes" man.

  101. "Who was Dr. White referring to when he said he had to explain to some pseudo-intellectuals why his administrators desired higher pay and his teachers didn't?"

Well they may DESIRE higher pay not that does not mean they DESERVE higher pay...and yes, doesn't everyone DESIRE higher pay....including teachers...but things are tough all around and the administrators should be willing to tighten their own belts (instead of tightening the noose around teachers).

  102. Did White really use the term "pseudo-intellectuals"? Unreal.

  103. Is there any way to get rid of Mary Busch before 2012? She is so destructive to IPS that it would be a shame to wait that long. Michael Brown needs to go this election also. His interference in the discipline actions of some of his relatives is totally unethical.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Keep in mind that Dr. Brown claims to be a pastor.
    Busch - out
It is sad to me that she has not taken the higher road and left. Does she think that she is helping anything?
    Brown - out
He is unethical, unfair, and spends too much time roaming the halls of Northwest.

  105. Regarding the people who are pastors and the administrators who are church-goers:

They distort the teachings of Jesus who said that a servant is greater than His master.

"Humble theyself in the sight of the Lord."

You elevate yourselves when you should be humbling yourselves. This is blasphemy.

  106. Amen! Do I hear another witness?

  107. So, Brandon Cosby believes that white teachers can't teach black children? His son goes to a charter school and has a white teacher.

  108. "Keep in mind Dr. Brown claims to be a pastor."

Yep, and I can't find his Positive Force Ministries anywhere. Anyone else know anything?

    ReplyDelete
  109. The only thing a Google search revealed concerning Positive Force Ministries was a post office box.

Positive Force Ministries P.O. Box 531522 Indianapolis, IN 46253

Sounds like one of those quickie non-profits established by a jack-leg preacher. Anyone can call himself 'pastor'.

  110. It is a full time job for "Rev." Brown to meddle in the schools and keep his family for being disciplined for their misbehavior. Spraying fire extinguishers in the school would result in explusion for most students but not if you are related to "Rev. Brown!!!!

  111. When his son went to #109, he was there every day.

  112. Brandon Cosby needs to sit his fat funky ass down and shut up.

  113. A friend told me that the compliance monitor had submitted a report on Broad Ripple that cited them for such things as having geese on the athletic field because the droppings would pose a health hazard...the high school is across the street from the White River and 2 blocks from the canal...is there a way the school can institute a "no fly zone"? She has also cited the school for having some toliets not flushed in some stalls in the boys' and girls' restrooms - we are actually paying someone with an EdD to monitor things like that! Sounds more like a job for a "BS" degree.. if all the people who do not have contact with students could be assigned to work with students one day a week as tutors in Reading, we wouldn't have to worry about retention...but flushed toliets are a higher priority...that makes me flush with anger...

  114. I agree completely! But when central office people are required to go to schools to help with ISTEP, they can't even fulfill that requirement. They leave early or don't show up at all. We have plenty of people already on the payroll who could help out. How about directors and others who IPS claims as teachers when stating student/teacher ratio. Let's have all those people come to the schools and help work with the kids! They seem to think that working with the students is beneath them.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Maybe they can get the middle school athletic director/basketball coach/ bus monitor to also spend part of his work day chasing those 55 geese off the field (I read the report, the compliance monitor actually counted the geese)!

This might allow Dr White to justify the salaries of these two people who each make over $100,000 a year each in salarlies and benefits and both do little to nothing of importance that impacts student achievement.

Taxpayers is this how you think IPS should be spending money earmarked for the education of your children? Get out there and vote these rascals out.

  116. The Ed. Center sends staff out to the schools to help administer the ISTEP. It is amazing that after about an hour of sitting and drinking coffee that most of them get emergency phone calls and have to return to the Ed. Center. Others go to lunch and just never return. The school staff then has to scurry around and fill in the empty spots that these "professionals" have created. Let's face it. Many of the Ed. Center people are uncomfortable around children.

  117. Isn't that a crock! Talk about wasted money...

    ReplyDelete
  118. Emergency indeed! They obviously couldn't care less about the students or the people working in the schools. And who tells Dr. White when these kinds of things happen? Nobody! That's a great result of the top down management system. Everyone shouts about teacher accountability, but where are the people policing those in charge?

  119. Someone sure loves Jeff White

    ReplyDelete
  120. Jeff White should consider seriously running for an IPS Board spot.

    Isn't the board Eugene's supervisor?

Yes, the Superintendent is 'supposed' to answer to the Board. The Board evaluates his performance.

    Run, Jeff, run!
