  2. No, there's no hiring freeze, not at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Does Eugene have any more relatives that need a job??

    ReplyDelete
  4. Wasn't one of his relatives just hired and working at the Education building downtown?

  5. I don't believe there's a hiring freeze, but there's absolutely a big thaw in creating 'new' positions. Check out the 'modified' personnel recommendations for tonight's Board meeting.

Jackie Greenwood is recommended to progress from being Director of Secondary Ed ($109K) to becoming the Executive Director ($112). Now, it does not specify what she will become the Executive Director of, but rather that her new title is 'Executive Director'. Your guess is as good as mine concerning what or whom she'll direct.

Jane Ajabu's title is/was Chief of Human Resources. Well, that's not good enough. So, Jane Kendricks will become the Assistant Superintendent for HR and will earn $118K.

In order for Jane Kendricks to perform her job, Erin Farrell has been promoted to Director of HR and will see her salary jump from $90K to $97K.

Joan Harrell is getting a new title and a nice salary increase, also. She's going to become the 'Executive' Director of Elementary Education. So, that leaves plenty of room for someone to become the Director of Elementary Ed.

  6. That is just amazing. They slipped those recommendations for raises in at the last minute-once again. Will the board actually approve that? How many teachers will lose their jobs due to budget cuts because these administrators are getting raises? Appalling.

    ReplyDelete
  7. No, these are not raises. Dr. White pulled another fast one. He created new jobs (aka same job but with new title) for these people. He can then say they did not receive raises. They had a change in jobs. He's deceitful, and the Board is cluelessly and hopelessly dumb.

    ReplyDelete
  8. This is despicable. White has added another layer of administration. Joan Harrell, Executive Director? She's so dumb she can't pour piss out of a boot with the directions on the heel.

    ReplyDelete
  9. If Joan Harrell is now going to be the Executive Director of Elementary Education, then it follows that another person will have to be hired to be the Director of Elementary Education. Maybe even two or three Directors of Elem. Ed. will need to be hired.

Same goes for Secondary Education. If Greenwood is to be the Executive Director of Secondary Ed, then she'll need several Directors working under her, right? More people will need to be hired.

How can the Board even entertain such careless and costly recommendations? How can they fathom yet another layer of administration knowing full well that the State is preparing to cut the education budget?

I'm unable to get Comcast Channel 20 to watch this meeting.

  10. Only Bentley and Cohen stood up to this issue. In case you missed it, White stated that these people had more responsiblity, more schools, more employees, therefore need more compensation. Cohen asked if teachers were getting compensation for the larger class sizes as well. (we know the answer to that)
Bentley stood her ground on the matter as well. Saying that IPS needs to be cutting costs, and during times like these employees may be handed more responsibility, it's happening everywhere. Repeating that our teachers have a bigger workload as well.
White's response was basically that per hours worked teachers have it better than administators. Cohen disagreed, saying teachers work at home, on weekends, during summers, 24/7. White argued back and offered a breakdown in hours. Cohen said he would like to see that.
    Sorry you couln't watch it.

  11. I am sad to see the only board members who ask the tough questions are leaving.

  12. I suppose White has formed a pact with Greenwood, Kendricks, Harrell, and other old-timers. Remember that retirement is based on the average of your last 5 years of salary. The higher the salaries during the last 5 years, the greater the retirement benefits. At least we know these elders will go into retirement in high style.

Just goes to prove that local control of schools isn't always the best control.

  13. For God's sake, the woman's name is Jane Kendrick, not Kendricks.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 'For God's sake, the woman's name is Jane Kendrick, not Kendricks.'

The spelling of her name does not change the situation, now does it? You evidently knew who was being referenced, didn't you?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Her name should be the wicked witch of the west. Kendrick or Kendricks is an evil bitter old woman. IMHO

  16. Do we have any way to document the amount of positions that Dr. White has created since coming into IPS?
We got rid of Regional Directors positions, but then created Elementary Directors, and then an Elementary Executive Director and Curriculum and Instruction Director. So, in essence, we ended up creating two new positions and duplicating the role of Regional Director.
We have had three hiring freezes since White's reign, but have managed to find tens of thousands of dollars for inside promotions and raises.
We have managed to change the neoptism policy (again, during a hiring freeze) to bring White's son in.
White also managed to bring in a friend from way back when - Basil Mawby - and pay him $100,000 for an imaginary position. This, too, was done during a hiring freeze.
So, let me get this straight...as long as you are a friend of Dr. White, then you will continue to prosper financially while teachers have a much larger workload, less support, and higher class sizes, and low morale.
Hello! Indy Star, are you reading this? DOE? Parents? Anyone?
Teachers clearly have no clout in IPS. We need parents and teachers to rally behind one another and stand up to our heartless bully of a leader.
Cohen and Bentley, please do not leave us. You two are the only voices of reason in our highly corrupt district.

    ReplyDelete
  17. so did the board vote on the new positions and did Cohen and Bentley vote nay? I suppose it is a majority rule type thing?

    ReplyDelete
  18. The meeting Tuesday was a briefing session. They will vote at the next meeting. Cohen and Bentley asked lots of questions and advocated for teachers.

  19. Someone told me that Roy Schroeder spoke up as a parent against some financial decisions, e.g. student activities director at BRHS, etc. and was very articulate. I heard he is going to run for the school board. I think he would be a good one for challenging the decisions and certainly not a "yes man"...

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't blame Bentley and Cohen for not running again. They get no support in battling Clueless Mary Busch and her posse. Where is the teachers' union? Where are the parents? Where are the community groups? Two people cannot do it alone.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh what teachers' union is that? I can't find them anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  22. ROY SCHROEDER AND ANNIE ROOF FOR BOARD!
WE NEED TO GET THE MESSAGE OUT.
WE CANNOT STAND AND WATCH OUR DISTRICT GO TO RUINS BECAUSE OF AN EGOCENTRIC POLITICIAN - WHOOPS, SUPERINTENDENT.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Has Ann Wilkins, IEA president been kidnapped and being held for ransom. That would the only explanation I have for her being totally invisible. I didn't vote for her.
