Not really. I just mentioned the date and let the students fill me in on what they knew about it--about five minutes!
ReplyDeleteIt would have been nice to show a 5 or 10 minute film about 9/11.....but we did have a moment of silence
ReplyDeleteAmazing to think it was 8 years ago! I still remember one of my students coming in to school that morning saying, "The Jamaicans are attacking us!" Hard to believe that within these past 8 years, that same student was gunned down.
ReplyDeleteOur principal had (had = made us) us watch the re-airing of Obama instead of doing a 9/11 activity.
ReplyDeleteTo the post above, that was a tough call to make.
ReplyDeleteOn one hand, seeing thousands of people losing their lives in realtime, images no one will ever forget or watching a "Be responsible for your life" pep talk.
We will always honor those whose lives were lose and yet we need to do what is necessary to get our kids back on track.
Do you recall the number of people who died at Antietam? Spotsylvania? Chickamauga? or Chancellorville? Probably not, We will never forget is just a slogan, we will forget, and we still really don't know the true historic lesson of 9/11. The actual cause? The source of the anger that drove others to do this? Sure it was a sad thing to see all these people lose their lives, and the bravery of fire fighter, police, and other safety officials as they headed into what was a certain death is noteworthy, but is it more so then the above named battles? Gettysburg, three day total 51,112; Chickamauga two day total 34,624; Chancellorville, four day total 30,099; Spotsylvania, nine days 27,399; and Antietam, one day total 26,134; these numbers dwarf the the 3000 people who died on 9/11 and we have basically "forgotten" them all.
ReplyDeleteI showed a short film and was amazed with the remarks from a student on how easy it would be to rob the people fleeing the falling buildings? Very insightful and clever to understand that the best time to "jack-up" folks are when they show fear. Just like Dr. White is doing to the teachers now and you think the payroll errors are a mistake?
