If you hang around IPS teachers much, you most certainly have been hearing about payroll glitches that have been disrupting their lives for the last few pay periods. The district recently installed a new accounting system and has been working through glitches, including some that would definitely get your payday off to the wrong start if you're an employee.
The biggest problem is that some people's pay doesn't get direct deposited into their accounts as expected or comes in at the wrong amount, said Mary Louise Bewley, a district spokeswoman. Those that get too much money will be required to give it back, and those that get too little get a check to make up the difference, she said.
Those who have not gotten paid or who have been shorted have either gotten a check that day at their job site or have requested that one be mailed to them instead, Bewley said.
"We have implemented a new payroll system, and we are just working through some kinks," she said. "When any new system is put in place in a new organization like this we expect there will be some issues."
The problems have affected less than 3 percent of IPS employees, Bewley said. They are sporadic, however, and people who had encountered no problems for several pay periods may then suddenly have issues. The largest concentration came last Friday, when about 80 teachers at Broad Ripple High School had issues with their checks.

IPS has been paying a man named Jeff Harmon as a teacher and he doesn't even work for IPS. He took a teaching job with another district. He has been trying to get the checks stopped but HR is so screwed up they keep paying him?
ReplyDeleteWell it should be interesting to see who gets paid today and who doesn't....Perhaps Jeff will get paid again. I have a friend who left IPS and they kept paying her insurance (which she didn't need since she had insurance from her new district) for three years.

Short pay again, I sent them a certified letter per the instructions of my attorney before we file a formal complaint. Leave time is screwed up, I was cheated out of 50 hours? I wonder if Payroll Department is on a PIP? Not! The "bobble-headed" Board Members will vote them a $10,000 raise on the motion of Dr. White? Just watch, wobble-sobble-bobble goes the Board Members.
ReplyDeleteMy raise was not on my check. My deduction for short term disability was not made. For the first time, the deduction for long term disability was made.........one teacher in my building has yet to receive a penny for night school despite being assured that it would be there this time........WHERE IS THE IEA?
ReplyDeleteMy last four checks have been for all different amounts. This check was less than my last three. Where is the IEA? I am beginning to believe they are NOT worth it anymore.

ReplyDeleteMy check was fine too. But those of you who are still having problems, are they fixing them each week and then messing them up again next pay period. Or are they never fixing them in the first place? Because if it's the latter, I'd show Andy Gammill before I'd mess with the union or lawyers. He'll print it if you give him proof.

ReplyDeleteThis is the "certified letter" teacher, nope, payroll is not fixing the mistakes at all, its the same each pay period. Why would I be worried, they have hundreds of complaints each week. I am correct to place IPS on notice (PIP so to speak) of the defects and then allow the courts to fix my problem. I am a union member, and Ann told us to call Payroll about pay problems, don't call her (Monday evening).

ReplyDeleteWe need to find a way to FORCE Ann out of her cushy job, and get a leader more concerned about the teachers than one who apparently cares more about kissing the ass of "old red-shoes".
ReplyDeleteThe problem is most teachers won't do that, or they don't care, or they are not part of the union. The union has done a lot of good things like getting our rears check amount back. The problem is there are so many teachers that are not in the union. However, if enough IEA members threaten to quit the union I bet there would be something done about all these issues coming up. Will this happen probally not.

Consider joining AFT, if enough people joined IEA would be decertified and AFT would become the exclusive bargaining unit. No one says you can't belong to two associations at the same time. The dues are far less, $331.80 for a member at large, and in my past experience they have been more responsive.

It is not the time to give up on the union. But the union certainly needs to be more responsive to the teachers, and I don't care if they have to operate out of a storage unit they need to get more uniserve directors to handle the many problems that IPS keeps throwing at them. They are simply overwhelmed by the sheer volume of mistreatment, illegal and immoral actions of IPS. They need at least three uniserve directors, one to deal with system wide issued; things that affect everyone; refusal to do SBDM, violations of the contract on a school level (the infamous 20 minute lunch) changes in the evaluation process that were never agreed upon, etc. And two more to deal with individual members problems on the building level for secondary and another for elementary level teachers. Transparency would also be a good idea also, what are the issues the union is dealing with and where in the process are the issues.
Not everything can be dealt with instantly, think about the long road of the unfair labor practice involves in the extended school year that was simply mandated at John Marshall, the program is gone and the case is still winding it's way through the court system.
There is an old saying "If you can't dazzle them with you brilliance, baffle them with your bullshit" I believe this may be Dr. White and the administrations motto.
When you have an IEA president who is in the back pocket of Eugene White then the IEA is in major trouble. Ann Wilkins should be ashamed of herself. She had turned her back on the IEA members who elected her.
