Makes You Sick

Do IPS School Board members get paid health insurance through the District? Someone should find out and report back!

72 comments:

  1. IPS Board members have the option to get the exact same health insurance at the same rate that teachers pay. Many of the Board members have other jobs that provide health insurance, so many of them do not elect to be covered under the IPS insurance plan.

  2. IPS also pays into the state PERF/TERF retirement for school board members. Mary Busch has 35 years+.

  3. I know for a fact that Don Payton had health insurance through the board when he was a member.

  4. Did anyone notice the new "word" of the year" It is "fidelity", meaning " a truthful connection to a source or sources; originally meaning dealt with loyalty and attentiveness to one's duty to a lord or a king." Remember to do your lord or king with fidelity.

  5. OK, we need to start a new thread!

Just glancing over Indy Star.com when I ran upon this Human Interest article regarding the Dad's Hall of Fame:
IPS Superintendent Eugene White will be inducted into the Dad's Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
I don't even know how to comment on this one.

  6. Get your kid a job. Get inducted into the Fatherhood Hall of Fame.

  7. How about fidelity to doing the real job we are paid for, preparing students for the future. I have no fidelity to dishonest administrator.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I could comment on the Dad honor but.....well, enough said.........getting his son a do nothing job that was created to keep him employed is only the beginning.....

  9. And, how about his daughter??? Ask someone..anyone..who worked with her at JMCS about her work ethic!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Come on, you really have to talk about someone's ability to parent? Every one of you ought to be glad you don't have a job in the spotlight, because all of your skeletons would be haunting everyone all over the Internet right about now. Have some integrity. Whine if you wish, but quit embarrassing yourselves and the rest of the teachers you claim to be representing. I am an IPS teacher and very few of you represent me or any other teacher that I know.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wait a minute, our jobs are in the spotlight...our skeletons are the test scores that are public knowledge and humiliating. Work on this problem and quit probing into administrators' lives. NO ONE CARES!!!!!!

  12. Jane Kendrick comments again!!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Dream on! I don't know Jane, but my guess is she has something better to do than wait for someone here to post something ignorant and then comment on it. Just because your coworkers disagree, doesn't make them Jane, Jeff, or any other person you don't like.

  14. "And, how about his daughter??? Ask someone..anyone..who worked with her at JMCS about her work ethic!"

Well, go right ahead. Ask me about her work ethic. I've worked with her at John Marshall for two years. Last year was not good for anyone, her included, at Marshall as all with any knowledge about IPS already know.

I've witnessed, this year, a young woman who's working her butt off to do the right thing with her special education students. She has self-contained classes in math AND language arts (a full schedule with only one planning period like the rest of us) and has at least three separate preparations.

Jeff White merely used her, and others, as building 'gofers' because that was his modus operandi with several Marshall teachers from years past. They were placed in a difficult and tenuous situation with Jeff, for sure. He's gone; it's a new and infinitely better year at Marshall.

Lay off Ms. White. No, I'm not a central office administrator; I'm among the teaching ranks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. What about when she was at Harshman...you can't blame that on Jeff White........

    ReplyDelete
  16. If Marshall really is better this year which is not what I hear, perhaps it is because you have so few students. Parents have voted with their feet and transferred their children to other schools. Why do you think that Howe is running almost 500 students above projection? Why do you think the 7th grade at Marshall has almost disappeared? Why did the Wonder Principals from California really decide that Marshall was not the place to be? None of that can be blamed on Jeff White.......

    ReplyDelete
  17. For a teacher to get the IPS medical insurance they have to be either a minimum of .5 or .6 employee or they do not qualify. Obviously the board members have a different set of standards since they can get it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I worked at John Marshall for two years. Jeffrey White and Kim White got along great. I can state with being bias they worked as a great team. She has a great work ethic and Jeffrey did not take advantage of any teachers. He can be an ass at times but he respected everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Point well taken about Principal White and Kim White. Both got along to the point that Prudence Bridgewaters and another central office employee was spreading rumors about them screwing, which is not true. The moral of the story is that Principal White did want to go along with not suspending disruptive students. He burned bridges with central office and they came together to beat him up. The Malibu boys were not prepared to fill Jeffrey White's shoes. The school and the community have lost.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ms. white walked out of classes, leaving them uncovered. She arrived late for work. She smoked cigarettes on school grounds. She spent classroom instruction time reading the Indianapolis Star. Prove me wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  21. This is exactly why we have nepotism rules, like Caesar's wife the child must be beyond reproach. Neither one of these children should have been hired by IPS, on the theory that the buck stops on White's desk. We all now know the buck stops nowhere, so I guess it really doens't matter.

    ReplyDelete
  22. That is the story told when the subject of how the superintendent's daughter was doing. Nothing good. People scrutinize the behavior of those who have relatives working in the same system. Natural curiosity.

    ReplyDelete
  23. This is about Prudence Bridgewaters and her mean vindictive personality. Jeff White was getting great community support and media coverage. She hated it and was jealous. Now she and her art friend and the vp at Shortridge are on here trying to demean him. It wont work. We know the truth. The California dream team found out real quickly about Prudence and her crew of harpies and stayed the hell away. Now parents are removing their students from Marshall in droves....it will be interesting to see how many they finally claim on ADM day.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I was offered a job in the system I because I had a relative on the board I graduated from, a wealthy suburban district. I didn't take the job. I hadn't even applied for the job. I have no respect for those who "pull strings" to get jobs. If I were the two White children I'd be humilitated to have to take jobs in my daddy's system. Can't they stand on their own accomplishments?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Speaking of Shortridge..... after reading the wonderful transition Mr. Cosby has achieved at his school, how are the students reacting to the new non traditional theme?

    ReplyDelete
  26. In defense of Kim White, she was hired by IPS when her father was working with Washington Township. Nepotism laws do not require that a relative, already under contract with a school corporation, quit or resign their position if their mom, dad, brother, or sister is hired as the superintendent. Like it or not, that is the law. Kim White was under contract with IPS before her father was hired as the Superintendent of IPS.

  27. Quote from above: "If Marshall really is better this year which is not what I hear, perhaps it is because you have so few students. Parents have voted with their feet and transferred their children to other schools. Why do you think that Howe is running almost 500 students above projection? Why do you think the 7th grade at Marshall has almost disappeared? Why did the Wonder Principals from California really decide that Marshall was not the place to be? None of that can be blamed on Jeff White......."

By golly, there are so many variables mentioned in this quote that it is difficult to choose where to begin.

*Marshall truly is a different school this year. Unless you were here last year and again this year, it would be impossible to describe the differences. First and foremost, the students are not in control of the school; adults are in control which was no small feat for Mr. Sullivan and his new faculty/staff, but they've accomplished that goal. Kudos to us!

*It's not surprising that Marshall has so few students this year after its dismal performance last year. That's OK. The student population may be small, but, as with a new business, we're 'growing' a new school from the foundation up. The new foundation is strong and structured, and it is not resting on the sandy soils of indecision, chaos, and shifting leadership. The new foundation is engineered on the bedrock of careful, intentional pre-planning and attention to administrative detail laid well before the school year began. This foundation is strong, and it can be felt when you walk into the building.

*We'll never know why the California Dreamin' Team decided not to move to IPS. In retrospect, I'd say it was a good thing. Having met the young men, I suspected they were not up to the task. They were nice young men, but they appeared clueless as to what awaited them. The larger question re: the California Dream Team lies in what prompted the IPS School Board to dispatch Greenwood, Bridgwaters, and Kendrick all the way across the country to the West Coast to interview these two 'unknowns'? Who knew them? How did their names come into the equation for rescuing Marshall? These are the hard questions. Does anyone out there know?

*Howe's surging enrollment is surely a mystery. Perhaps Howe is just the best school in IPS. Who knows? Sometimes a school can become a recipient of the purported 'disenfranchised and unwanted masses' simply because of its perceived success. As the old cliche goes, "Be careful what you wish for." Howe is a 'choice' school under NCLB so I'd imagine that many parents would elect the 'choice' school without further examination. Kudos to Howe for being a 'choice' school!

*Re: Jeff White. No one at Marshall is blaming Jeff White for anything. Most of the old crew from the Jeff days are gone. Only a couple of Jeff's favs remain, and they're not making much of an impression with the new faculty.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Howe's enrollment is surging because NCLB has determined that Marshall is a failing school which entitles parents to select any successful school and their children must be transferred to that school. Marshall parents are voting with their feet. Everyone knows why the California Dream team changed their minds......Prudence Bridgewaters started treating them the way she treats everyone and they didn't have to tolerate it and didn't. Who knows if they would have been a positive or negative but we will never know.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm encouraged that John Marshall parents are voting with their feet and enrolling their students at Howe, the 'IPS choice school' under NCLB law. Choice is a good thing! Go Howe! Keep up the great work!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm a parent, not a teacher, but Howe is on probation too, so wouldn't it be against the law for that to be the "choice school?" If you actually have proof of IPS doing this, you should totally send it to the media. Unless, of course, it's not true.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm unsure the reasons for Howe being selected as a 'choice' school under NCLB, but it's a fact, not a rumor. Howe evidently was staffed for approximately 800 students; however, their enrollment has passed 1200 students to date because they're listed as a 'choice' school under the fed's No Child Left Behind.

If anyone out there in cyber land knows the reason for Howe being a 'choice' school, please let us know.

  32. I hate to bring religion into my posting. God does not like ugly. Before Prudence Bridgwaters was assigned Director of John Marshall, it had structure and improved test scores. Bridgwaters will go down as the person who ruined Coleman and John Marshall. If they have only 350 students, that shows the power of Jeffrey White and the community. God does not like ugly...

    ReplyDelete
  33. I still believe Principal White was banging the superintendent's daughter. If he wasn't banging her, he was the only one that wasn't banging her.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The above post is slanderous and serves no enlightening purpose on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The person who posted that Howe is on probation is 100% wrong. Howe is a successful school that according to federal law any parent in a failing school may choose for their children to attend. I work for IPS and I would not ever allow any of my children to attend that hellhole of a school named Marshall. I would select the Howe option as guaranteed under NCLB in a heartbeat.

  36. One of the things thst I don't like about this blog is that crazy, vicious people can hide behind anonymous posts like the one about Kim and Jeff White above. Kim White was an IPS teacher before her daddy came to IPS. She's a grown woman and what she does or doesn't do with WHOEVER should not be up for debate because it has nothing to do with the B.S> that goes on in our district....os student achievement, or lack therof.

    Average percent passing ISTEP 43.3%
AYP - never made AYP since 2002

    John Marshall
Accreditation Status: Provisional accreditation (worse than probation)
Graduation rate n/a (because of the changes, it's currently a 7-10 school)
    Average percent passing ISTEP 33.1%

  38. To the comment about the crazy, vicious people on this blog, I agree 100%. But if you poke around, you'll see that when anyone points this out, they are accused of being someone from administration, sometimes specific people.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The topic was paid health issurance for school board members. Why can't we focus the discussions on the topic at hand ? Too often the topic posted for discussion gets lost among commentary not remotely related to the topic.
    FOCUS people !

    ReplyDelete
  40. There are hundreds of posts with nothing but gossip and personal insults, and you never try to refocus anyone then. But as soon as intelligent discussion begins, you try to shut it down. You're doing it here, and you did it on the magnet school thread. Do you want discussion or do you just want a bathroom wall on which to anonymously smear people in the IPS system.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I do not see a problem with offering the board healthcare. It is not free to them, they pay for it just as everyone else. And if the job is done properly, it takes a lot of time and commitment. Much more than the hours they get paid.
THat being said, several board members do not put in extra work. And they do a poor job of the work they put in. I don't think you should be able to retire form school board. We need to set limit to the terms.

    ReplyDelete
  42. People should leave Jeff and Kim alone. The truth is that John Marshall was changing for the better and Prudence Bridgwaters and Jane Kendrick stopped the movement.

    ReplyDelete
  43. How much work does it take to sit there and nod your head yes to everything Eugene White says.....they are puppets and dont deserve anything. They are legally the boss of Eugene White and he barks commands at them and jump.

    ReplyDelete
  44. We all know that Jane Kendrick, Lori Elliot and Prudence Bridgewaters [she is the one who does not correctly spell the words] post on here on a regular basis. They want to try and tear down this forum by petty snipping remarks. WONT WORK!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Many of us who post here also know there is an IPS elementary school teacher, an IPS secondary social studies teacher, an IPS parent and an Indianapolis parent outside of IPS who also post here and have all been accused of being Jane Kendrick (and before that, it was Mary Louise). We know each other.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I guess that means that mean spirited derogatory remarks toward teachers are not limited to Jane Kendrick. Self hate is the worst kind of hate.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Refocus on the issues here: Does the School Board deserve paid health insurance? Since most have other jobs, I would say 'no'. Why can't they get their health insurance through their chief employer?

Also about the Marshall vs. Howe issue: IPS gave Sullivan and John Marshall 6 ( six) police officers this year! With fewer students and more officers, why wouldn't the atmosphere be improved?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I am simply amazed at how some people will go to great lenghts to destroy others. What happened at John Marshall last year was sad. Prudence Bridgwaters and Jane Kendricks convinced Dr. White that Jeffrey White was suspending too many students and he was insubordinate. Bridgwaters wants her son Clarke, who is employed by IPS to always have a job and Jane Kendricks loves "her girls" to be empowered. The citizens don't know that Dr. White hated Jeffrey White for getting too much attention and telling the media about the wrongdoings of IPS Central Office. The rumors about Jeffrey and Kim were just the icing on the cake.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The IPS school board has let Eugene
White and his cronies, Jane Kendrick and her posse of girls, and Prudence Bridgewaters and her group of Girls Gone Wild run wild and do severe damage to IPS. They dont deserve their salaries, many other perks or health insurance. They do not function as a board. They are like those dogs in the back windows of cars whose heads just bob up and down. I sense that the next election will be a real "board changer"

    ReplyDelete
  50. sadly for the kids in IPS that won't be happening until 2010, Friday, August 20, 2010
DEADLINE, by noon, to file a petition for a school board office elected at the general election. http://www.in.gov/sos/elections/files/2010_Calendar_Brochure.pdf

    ReplyDelete
  51. Who cares who Kim White sleeps with, as long as it isn't a kid. The issue is if she gets some preferencial treatment due to who her father is and or who she is sleeping with.

The problem is when you have people in positions of great power sleeping with underlings, think Adam's Madames duking it out in the halls of the ed center.

I can recall when my departmental colleagues and I got into touble when we bribed a craftsman to do a little "extra" thing we needed done (wiring or painting, I can't recall)with homemade cookies. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  52. "sadly for the kids in IPS that won't be happening until 2010, Friday , August 20,2010..."

Partly true, but there is a vote in the primary election in May.........

    ReplyDelete
  53. February of 2010 is the deadline for filing for IPS board since our board is elected in the primary. The winners will take office on July 1, 2010...hope is on the way!!! In the past, many of these current worthless board members have run unopposed or they have so many opponents that they anti vote is split several ways and they win again. Parents and staff need to make sure that there is ONE good candidate against the incumbent and throw the incumbent out!!!

I assure you there will be ONE good candidate.

  55. www.indianabarrister.com

Go to his website downoad the big file on the budget. Looks like page 478 is the school board info. Can anyone make heads or tails of this?

    ReplyDelete
  56. yes, it shows how much money is allocated for each position at each school and the costs of ins, taxes etc.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Someone who knows what is going on at each school needs to look at the budget at that school. One school where the teachers sat down and looked at the budget found at least three phantom positions, budgeted for but not filled and not needed...That money can then later be pulled out of these hiding spots and spent on, oh say something like a really expensive morning bus attendant/basketball coach.

    ReplyDelete
  58. What about the rumors of Dr. White having expense accounts that cover his clothing. Is there any truth in that?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Someone needs to look into how a Principal, her secretary and certain staff members at one IPS elementary magnet school are spending their schools money( or should I say stealing from their schools various accounts). Isn't stealing from IPS automatic grounds for being fired! I guess they figure if Dr. White can rob us blind why can't they! Too bad Donald Trump is not the Superintendent at IPS..........at least he would say "You're Fired" and get the job done!

    ReplyDelete
  60. page 478 has the board costs, so each board member is compensated about $16,400 per year, they do receive insurance, and $30,000 dollars is budgeted for their travel, I'm sure they go to conventions for school boards. What are "contracted services" is my question. Someone who isn't connected to IPS can call the budge office and aske what they are.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Someone please tell me why a certain secretary at an elementary school took a rug home this summer? Isn't this stealing from IPS?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Probably the same reason some principal gave away a T.C.Steele painting, that belonged to the children of Indianapolis Public Schools, then couldn't "remember" who she gave this painting to, and then was promoted to a down town administrator. Painting value-probably in excess of $50,000. based on current auction prices. Info from former art chair Ted Moore.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I, too, want to know why this know-it-all, holier than thou, tell the teachers to get control of their classrooms, secretary got away with stealing that rug. Honestly, where IS Sally Callahan when you need her? :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. This secretary needs to be reprimanded by the Principal, prosecuted by the necessary IPS officials( or IMPD)and fired from IPS. As stated "as an employee of IPS if you steal property that belongs to IPS that is grounds for automatic firing. Would someone please do ther job and get rid of the thieves that are working for IPS! These sort of ruthless acts are costing the district lost of money as well as lost of valuable merchandise. When will it end! I hope HR and Sally Callahan are reading this Blog............

    ReplyDelete
  65. Our principal has a special education classroom assistant to help in one of the EH classrooms. The principal has her assigned full time doing clerical duties in the office. This is a total mismanagement of staff and probably fraud since the assistant is assigned her to help with special needs students not to do some of the principal's work. The students and taxpayers are both losers here.

    ReplyDelete
  66. In our school, certain people don't have any duties, while others are put in charge of way too many students at once. People have tried to explain the problems, but their concerns have fallen on deaf ears. If a student were to get hurt, wouldn't the principal ultimately be to blame? Also...when did yellow and green become uniform colors? The same time they started allowing students to wear hoodies? Sally....oh, Sally...where are you?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Just wondering how to post a comment...

    ReplyDelete
  68. guess I figured it out...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Explain to me why Dr. White would have a clothing allowance? Is that the truth? Is that common in the corporate world? I am not trying to be or nasty or anything..but I think it would really benefit him to have some speech therapy...sometimes he is hard to undetstand...some sort of lisp or something. It would be helpful to him as he speaks to so many groups and has such a lot of potential.

    ReplyDelete
  70. What's the difference regarding the budget anyhow?
As was stated yesterday at a SBDM meeting the 301AB 2010 Budget figures are not accurate. The reported salaries do not add up. However, Dr. White said, "we don't intend to give you (the school board) the specificity of each of these items". Any further inquiry, "would take a lot of your time and be ridiculous".
So elected officials have no business asking about the budget. Got it? By God he knows what's best and you just mind your place. Any further inquiry by the public, the folks paying his salary, is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Well, this week has come and gone, and once again, nothing has happened to the secretary who "borrowed" the IPS rug. Oh, and the students are still wearing their hoodies.
