Today is the first day of school. When you get home, let IPS B.S. know how you're day went.

  2. Parents sitting on floor of pic center fight outside gym while parents watched (registration)-no admins adressing kids in gym out of uniform-some kids no lunch because so unorganized--some counselors no lunch or break--some teachers still not sure what teaching nor have rosters-entering so backed up bcse. Stopped every bus&car creating backup that lasted over 10 minutes--- dismissal took almost 1/2 hour bcse. Noone (admin) was visable directing the insanity. Re-issuing lockers already handed out(theivery). But thank goodness shortridge was doing well----did I mention counselor taken to hospital bcse. Of heat,no lunch,no break-so passed out- too many chiefs not enough Indians-little to no communication--same thing new year-----but I love my kids!!!!

  3. Dear 2:06

All teachers have the ability to go into TAC center and see what they are teaching and pull their class rosters. In fact all teachers were emailed in early July with instructions on how to do just that.

  4. Our elementary principal did not have any of the bus information ready and recycled last year's staffing schedule. No agenda for the first day meeting, no plan for today's opening; he even stayed in his office during dismissal today. However, he thinks he is Dr. White's and Dr. Johnson's golden boy and that the district's rules don't apply to him.

  5. Congrats to Linda Davis and her staff for the best opening day that I have ever had in IPS!!!

  6. The second poster must have been talking about Tech High School as it was definitely not ready to open. A teacher cannot go into the TAC if the principal has not given IT the names of the faculty or faculty changes so that they can be entered.......

  7. Great day. Kids all in dress code, new students polite and cooperative, my teammate and I actually worked on data collection, fractions, decimals and percentages.....with 40 kids in our combined classes.

Thanks to our non-homeroom staff for the one-hour lunches this week, and to our principal for deflecting as much garbage as possible from our plates.

One question.....why is it necessary for our media staff to e-mail the CPU codes for every single social studies and language book back to media services? Grade two has FIVE social studies books for each child. Didn't someone write down the numbers when the stickers were put in the books and loaded in boxes? Our children will not be able to check out their books until sometime next week.

    Ridiculous.

  8. I had a great day!

  9. It's amazing what happens when you re-segregate schools by social class. Wait till Dr. White dies and gets to heavens gate and finds Saint Peter looks just like Thurgood Marshall, and the doors to heaven snap shut.

  10. If Broad Ripple had a great opening it sure could not have been due to Linda Davis. Dave Tuttle is the only administrator left there with the ability to pull that off.

  11. Mr. Sullivan and his staff were quite impressive at John Marshall High School today. Most of the kids were well behaved in the convocation, and regristration process. The kids were very receptive to Mr. Sulliivan opening speech, and carried outhis requests throughout the day. The cafeteria behavior was great. I hope we can keep this up.

  12. Dear 3:24,
Theoretically teachers do have that option, however the classes listed, if there are any, are often wrong. Even today I was told that my classes are "probably going to change later this week." Another colleague was told that he was to create a syllabus for each of the classes he was to teach as there is no set curriculum. He was told this today. Today was another disaster. Kids roaming the halls, teachers ignored by administrators when bringing students out of uniform or with severe behavioral infractions, etc. So much for being optimistic about this coming year!

  13. Linda Davis was dead tired rolling her chair from the micowave to the icebox, squeek, squeek, gobble, gobble. Plus look at the number of administrators that Broad Ripple has compared to other schools, way too many for a normal school. IPS is still messed up from Dr. White down to the administrator that hides in their office. I am glad that Mr. Sullivan was out and about working to keep the students in line, maybe John Marshall will have a good year.

  14. Please, IPS Teacher, get "you're" grammar right.

  15. Linda Davis has been VERY present throughout this entire week!!! Her staff work hard because they like and respect her!!! Me included! Your comments, 6:34, are unfair and unkind. Do you work at BRHS????

  16. Mrs. Davis, Mr. Law and Mr. Tuttle along with the entire staff made Broad Ripple's opening the best I have ever experienced in ten years in IPS! If you were not there, then you don't know and as the kids say " Stop hating!"

  17. While things were not perfect, the staff at my school worked great together. I am new to the buiding, and I could feel the positive energy throughout the building and in every classroom I visited.

  18. Things went very well at 107. The staff and new principal Mr. Sappenfield did an excellent job of having a system down and having everyone helping. Parents were pleased and kids were happy and productive all day. WAY TO GO 107!

  19. School #60 rocked! The staff worked together nicely, the kids were well-dressed and well behaved, principal was on the ball. Great first day!

  21. I know that this has been stated before, but can we PLEASE check our posts before submitting them? I know that this is an informal public blog, but we are educators! What credibility will we have with this blog when 75% of the blogs are grammatically and/or semantically incorrect?
IPS teachers are already made out to be below average, at best. Writing posts like we are teenagers texting one another does not give us much credibility.
My opening day was wonderful! We all need to continue to be optimistic.

  22. So far, so good at Arlington, good administrative visibility. Staff needs to step up on uniform enforcement, unless it is consistent from room to room, day to day it will be an uphill battle that we never win.

  23. I dreaded moving this year and has some concerns about my new assignment for the year. I have great co-workers who are respectful and a functioning administrator who reads the blog. Yep, I promised I would not mention your name in the blog, rock on.

  24. My neighbor was over just a few minutes ago. Channel 13 is reporting that Manual has 15% absent rate.

He said that he must have all the absent people then. He said on Wednesday he had 220 plus students on his roles and only saw 85. That is far more than even 50% absent.

He said, he was glad he did not have to be the one giving out numbers like that and have to have a straight face.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Now quit hating Broad Ripple. Did you really think all of the friends that she hired would complain about her??

    ReplyDelete
  26. 3:31...Your neighbor was so right! Manual's classrooms are running at (maybe) about 1/2 of what is on the books. Conversely, small (and large) groups of students are roaming the halls every period! No administrators in sight at all today either. I saw Math teachers trying to get students to class during the last period of the day, only to be disrespected by the students they were trying to help.

  27. Dear 2:06...I have been teaching for over 20 years. I have had the same classroom for 6 years. Now, tell me, how the TAC center, who you think could help me, has my classroom as a "non existing class"
So I COULDN'T get my class roster, not a name, not a phone number--GOD help me if there is an injury! As I sit in my home, on the end of 2nd day, I am still a non existing classroom. SO, it doesn't always work the way you say... This is rediculous---or as our asteemed High and mighty Whitey said on opening day, "Redicalus"

    ReplyDelete
  28. 6:14, when you said "rediculous", did you mean "ridiculous"? That's kind of funny, considering you were making fun of White saying "Redicalus". Remember two things: the verse about beams and motes in eyes, and the little red underline is your friend.

    You are welcome.

  29. Also, it's "esteemed", not asteemed.

  30. Is it bidness or business? I thought Eugene wanted to start working on E-Bay.

  31. 2:08, I laughed...until I cried! No wonder the beautiful language that is English is dying.

  33. I am at Broad Ripple and the principal there, Linda Davis, did an outstanding job of making the teachers feel welcomed and needed! The students were wonderful as well! Looks like it may be the best year I have EVER had in IPS! Thanks, Ms. Davis!
